F Dwight Powell had 14 points and eight rebounds in 28 minutes off the bench Monday in the Mavs' win over Cleveland.

F Dwight Powell posted a double-double with 10-point, 13-rebound effort on Friday night against the Warriors.

F Dwight Powell came off the bench to score 16 points and grab nine rebounds as the Mavs lost Game 5 to the Thunder on Monday.

C Dwight Powell served as a backup for the first 92 games of his NBA career. When he got his first chance to start, the second-year player out of Stanford made it count. Powell scored a career-high 16 points and had seven rebounds in the Mavericks' 97-88 win over Denver on Monday. Powell also had two of Dallas' 14 steals. With a strong performance Powell might not get out of the starting lineup anytime soon.

Powell's preseason debut will have to wait, as he's been slow to recover from a strained left elbow during training camp. With only four games remaining on the Mavs' exhibition schedule after Tuesday, Powell is running out of opportunities to make an impression on coach Rick Carlisle and his staff.

According to coach Rick Carlisle, Powell has yet to receive clearance for contact, putting him behind the curve in his bid to earn meaningful minutes off the bench for Dallas early this season. Powell sustained the injury earlier in the summer while playing for the Canadian national team.

Powell (elbow) returned to action after missing one game with a minor elbow injury, but he only play five minutes in Team Canada's 94-73 win over the Mexican National Team on Tuesday.

Powell was given the weekend off after straining his left elbow in Thursday's win over the Venezuelan Team. He played 16 minutes on Monday and was limited during Tuesday's game in the blowout win. Coach Jay Triano appears to be finding rest for players during the second round of the FIBA Americas Championship, and it shouldn't be considered a serious issue.

Powell did not participate in Team Canada's match against the Puerto Rican National team on Friday due to a strained left elbow, the Toronto Sun reports.

Powell was rested as a precaution and will likely play in Sunday's game against Panama. He originally injured the elbow in Thursday's game against Venezuela. He's been marked as a potential sleeper in deep leagues due to his ability to connect from deep and the Mavericks' muddied frontcourt situation.

Powell could see a significant boost in playing time this season, Earl Sneed of Mavs.com reports. "There's going to be an opportunity for an increased role next year, and that's not an overstatement," coach Rick Carlisle said. "That's how strongly we feel about his ability to contribute, so we really like him."

Powell is situated nicely on a team with Zaza Pachulia as the projected starting center and Dirk Nowitzki winding down his career. He stands a 6-foot-11, allowing him to oscillate between power forward and center. Powell averaged 18.8 points and 9.2 rebounds during summer league and earned All-NBA Summer Leauge Second Team recognition. He's spent time working on his outside touch in order to inhabit the stretch-four position, and his stint in the D-League last season offered a glimpse of his offensive ceiling, providing 26.0 points, 9.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.0 block in 36 minutes per game. He'll showcase his game with the Canadian National Team later this summer, and that could act as a precursor toward a fantasy-relevant season for Powell.

Powell earned All-NBA Summer League Second Team honors for his work at the Las Vegas Summer League. He averaged 18.8 points, 9.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.0 steal, and 2.1 three-pointers in 32 minutes per game.

Powell spent his rookie season pinging around the NBA as property of four teams before settling with the Mavericks. He spent time in the D-League where he averaged 26.0 points, 9.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.0 block in 36 minutes per game. He's spent the summer working on his outside shot with the intention of playing stretch-four this season. While he only shot 27 percent on three-pointers during summer league, he connected on 40 percent of his attempts in the D-League. Powell will enter training camp attempting to earn backup power forward and center minutes.

Powell played in 29 games with both Boston and Dallas, averaging 3.1 points and 1.1 rebounds per game.

Powell played a bigger role in Dallas but still spent a majority of his time playing for the team's D-League affiliate. He remains a project but should get valuable minutes playing for the Canadian national team over the summer.

Powell made his professional postseason debut Tuesday, playing two fourth quarter minutes of the team's Game 2 loss to the Rockets. He missed his lone shot attempt.

Powell was inactive for Game 1 but joined the lineup with teammates Chandler Parsons (knee) and Devin Harris (toe) unable to play due to injury.

Powell played 24 minutes Monday in a loss to the Jazz. He finished 2-of-9 from the field for eight points and added eight rebounds.

Powell failed to impress in his first extended minutes since early February. He entered the rotation with Dirk Nowitzki and Tyson Chandler back in Dallas resting.

Powell was recalled from the Texas Legends of the D-League on Thursday, Earl Sneed of Mavs.com reports.

Powell hasn't made an impact at the NBA level this season, but he's been tearing up the D-League to the tune of 30.3 points and 9.9 rebounds per game.

He did not see any minutes in his short stay with the Mavs, and does not figure to join the rotation in a significant way at any point over the final three weeks of the season.

Powell averaged just over eight minutes in 24 games with the Mavs earlier in the season, but the addition of A'mare Stoudemire and the sustained health of the team led to a sharp decrease in his minutes. He will rejoin the team starting Monday, but shouldn't see enough minutes to make him relevant in most leagues.
