Thu Oct 19 202315:45John Collins Resting To Close Preseason
Utah Jazz forward John Collins (rest) is not going to play in Thursday's preseason finale versus the Sacramento Kings. Collins' nondescript preseason didn't exactly help or hurt his fantasy stock during his first look in new digs, averaging 8.0 points on 57.1% shooting, 3.8 rebounds, and 0.8 three-pointers in 19.6 minutes. The dynamic 26-year-old has witnessed his numbers steadily dwindle in each of the last three years, and the Atlanta Hawks were even willing to part ways with Collins for a future second-rounder this past offseason. Collins could eventually find a spark in Salt Lake City, but he could get off to slow start until he gets fully acclimated. The former first-round pick probably shouldn't be drafted inside the top 100 in most competitive leagues. 2023 first-rounder Taylor Hendricks should pick up extra minutes on Thursday, as well as Simone Fontecchio.

Mon Oct 16 202309:16John Collins Believes He Will Need Time To Adjust In Utah
Utah Jazz power forward John Collins might not be at his best at the start of the season, as he believes he needs time to adjust to his new surroundings. "I have to adapt to a bunch of things that I wasn't used to doing in Atlanta, and that's part of the game, and I'm embracing it because it's a new chapter for me and it also allows my game to grow," Collins told Sarah Todd of The Deseret News. During the preseason, Collins has produced mixed performances, averaging 7.7 points and 4.0 rebounds in 20.3 minutes with 50 percent shooting.

Wed Jul 26 202309:20Jazz See A Big Role For John Collins
Utah Jazz power forward John Collins looks set for a major bounce-back season in 2023-24, with his new team considering him an "integral part" of plans to play big lineups. "Adding John Collins was a no-brainer," an anonymous member of the Jazz told Keith Smith of Spotrac. "He's an outstanding talent. We feel like he got lost in the shuffle some in Atlanta. With us, we're going to make sure he's regularly involved and has a consistent role. We want to play big lineups, because it's an advantage we have over most other teams. John is going to be an integral part of that strategy." Collins was limited to only 13.1 points and 6.6 rebounds in 2022-23. However, he was a 20-10 guy not long ago and his fantasy stock should get a boost from the fresh start in Salt Lake City.

Mon Jun 26 202317:42Jazz Acquire John Collins From Hawks
Atlanta Hawks forward John Collins appears to be finally on the move after being subject to trade rumors for what seemed like at least a season. The Utah Jazz will acquire Collins from the Hawks in exchange for Rudy Gay and a future second-round pick. This appears to be a salary dump for the Hawks as Collins still has three years, $78 million remaining on his current contract. The Hawks needed to clear cap space with Dejounte Murray, Saddiq Bey, and Onyeka Okongwu all becoming free agent after next season. This move should give the Hawks more cap flexibility going forward. A move to Utah should give Collins a shot at increased fantasy relevance. He was the third option in Atlanta, but should give more opportunities on the rebuilding Jazz roster.

Sat Jun 24 202314:02Hawks, Jazz Have Talks Involving John Collins
According to Yahoo's Jake Fischer, the Hawks and Jazz had trade discussions surrounding forward John Collins. However, a deal didn't happen. Atlanta is looking to free up some cash this offseason. The team also reportedly made it known anyone outside of Trae Young is available. But Collins has been rumored to be on the move for years now, although it may finally happen in the weeks ahead. The 25-year-old has averaged 15.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks in 364 career games. He's had trouble staying healthy, although he's an above-average fantasy option when he's on the floor. That shouldn't change even if he's wearing a different uniform in 2023-24.

Wed Jun 21 202315:52Nets, Celtics Both Expressing Trade Interest In John Collins
Atlanta Hawks forward John Collins has been the center of trade talks more often than not over the last few years. According to Matt Moore of Action Network, the Brooklyn Nets, and the Boston Celtics are the two teams still expressing interest in recent weeks. The Dallas Mavericks were in talks for a bit surrounding a swap of Collins for the tenth pick, but negotiations have soured. There hasn't been any substantial movement in any of the conversations so far, but Collins seems to firmly be on the trade block.

Sat Jun 17 202309:59John Collins On Phoenix's Radar
Atlanta Hawks forward/center John Collins has been linked with a move to the Phoenix Suns. According to Yahoo Sports' Jake Fischer, the Suns have been in trade conversations with Atlanta and have "registered an interest" in Collins. Fischer added that the Hawks continue to explore trade scenarios involving Collins, who had a disappointing campaign in the second season of a big five-year, $125 million contract. Collins averaged 13.1 points and a career-low 6.5 rebounds. A change of scenery could be exactly what Collins needs to reignite his career. Atlanta has also had trade conversations involving him with Dallas.

Sun May 28 202302:03John Collins Still Available
According to John Hollinger of The Athletic, the Hawks will likely try to trade forward John Collins this offseason. The 25-year-old has spent his entire career in Atlanta, averaging 15.8 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks in 364 games. However, Collins is owed $78 million over the next three seasons, so the Hawks would welcome a deal to get under the tax line. From a fantasy standpoint, the 2017 first-round pick has shown flashes of promise since entering the league. But he's also had some underwhelming performances over the years, and his inability to remain healthy shouldn't change, regardless of where he's playing this season.

Tue Apr 11 202310:27John Collins Back From One-Game Absence
Atlanta Hawks forward/center John Collins (back) will return from a one-game absence Tuesday against Miami. He was rested Sunday versus Boston with lower back tightness. Collins took a significant step back in his play during the 2022-23 regular season, putting up the second-fewest points in his career and averaging a career-low 6.5 rebounds. Can he make up for it with a big performance in the play-in game? Collins had a miserable year from downtown but is shooting 52.6 percent from deep this month. One of his best games of the season was against Miami when Collins put up 23 points and 14 rebounds in a 106-98 loss on Nov. 27. He averaged 14.3 points and 5.0 rebounds overall in the matchup during the regular season.

Sun Feb 26 202302:15John Collins Questionable Versus Brooklyn
Atlanta Hawks forward John Collins (back) is classified as questionable ahead of Sunday's meeting with the Brooklyn Nets. According to the league's official injury report, Collins is bothered by lower back tightness. However, he missed Friday's matchup versus Cleveland because of concussion protocols. That said, Saddiq Bey started against the Cavaliers and finished with 19 points in 28 minutes. Realistically, managers shouldn't expect Collins to be out there on Sunday afternoon, meaning Bey will remain a popular fantasy option.

Thu Feb 23 202318:30John Collins Remains In Concussion Protocol
Atlanta Hawks forward John Collins has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The 25-year-old has been in concussion protocol since a collision during last Wednesday's game. Collins remains in concussion protocol, so he'll miss at least one more game, but he could sit out longer than that. In the meantime, Saddiq Bey should remain in the starting five. He recorded 12 points, five rebounds, and knocked down three shots from beyond the arc during his last start. He'll make for a decent streaming option while Collins is on the sideline.

Sat Feb 18 202318:05John Collins Enters Concussion Protocol
Atlanta Hawks forward John Collins (head) has been placed in the league's concussion protocol after a collision during Wednesday's game. He was evaluated on Thursday and the organization announced they will monitor his situation daily. Luckily, the Hawks don't play again until February 24th. That gives Collins some time to clear concussion protocol before games resume. Otherwise, Saddiq Bey could be asked to take on a bigger role if Collins is still out.

Wed Feb 15 202321:32John Collins Won't Return On Wednesday
Atlanta Hawks forward John Collins (head) has been ruled out for the rest of Wednesday's game against the New York Knicks. He exited halfway through the third quarter due to a head injury. It sounds like the team is going to take the cautious approach and have Collins sit out the rest of this game. His absence will mean more minutes for Bogdan Bogdanovic and Saddiq Bey. Both players will have increased fantasy value if this injury forces Collins to miss time.

Wed Feb 15 202318:44John Collins Good To Go Wednesday
Atlanta Hawks forward/center John Collins (hip) is playing Wednesday against the New York Knicks. Collins was questionable with a hip flexor, but will return from a one-game absence and should have no issues on Wednesday. Saddiq Bey should return to the bench with Collins back and take a hit in minutes.

Tue Feb 14 202318:47John Collins Uncertain For Wednesday
Atlanta Hawks forward/center John Collins (hip) is listed as questionable to play versus the New York Knicks on Wednesday. Collins missed Monday's game with a hip flexor and is in danger of missing another. Saddiq Bey got the start with Collins out, but only played 20 minutes. If Collins is unable to go, Bey would likely start again while Bogdan Bogdanovic and Onyeka Okongwu get some extra run off the bench.

Mon Feb 13 202318:23John Collins Won't Play Monday
Atlanta Hawks forward John Collins (hip) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Charlotte Hornets. The stud forward was questionable coming into this game, so it appears he'll sit this game out due to a hip flexor strain. His absence should free up additional playing time for Bogdan Bogdanovic, A.J. Griffin, and Jalen Johnson. It's also worth noting that Saddiq Bey has been cleared to make his team debut. It's uncertain how many minutes he'll play in his first game with his new team. That being said, Bogdanovic and Griffin are going to be the best streaming options out of the bunch.

Sun Feb 12 202322:50John Collins May Not Suit Up On Monday
Atlanta Hawks forward John Collins (hip flexor) has been listed as questionable for Monday's contest against the Charlotte Hornets. Other than a two-week stretch in early December, Collins has been healthy most of the season. Hip flexor strains can be tricky with some players missing up to a few games. If he can't suit up, AJ Griffin and Jalen Johnson could see some more minutes unless Saddiq Bey (trade pending) does see the floor. In that case, Bey could be the better streaming option even though it would be his first game.

Fri Feb 10 202313:152023 NBA Trade Deadline Breakdown - Fantasy Basketball Impacts
The NBA trade deadline has officially come and gone and we had one of the most active deadlines in recent memory with some big stars being dealt. Kyrie, KD, and Westbrook are all heading to new teams and we have been covering those trades and their fantasy impacts here at RotoBaller. But there were plenty of other lesser-known players who were dealt in the last few days and I wanted to go through and make sure we don't overlook some of these trades as some of those deals may even have more fantasy impact than the big moves. So here are some other trades that went down and my two cents on the increase or decrease in value that we should expect from the players involved for the remainder of the 2022-2023 fantasy basketball season.

Moves That Matter

These are very much in order of how much they matter. Let's start with the Spurs sending their starting center back up North where he started his career.Jakob Poeltl to the RaptorsI am a huge Poeltl fan and was close to acquiring him on multiple teams before the deadline. It was a curious move by Toronto to be buyers instead of sellers at the deadline, but Poeltl gives them the presence at the five they have been lacking all season and allows Siakam to shift over and play PF where he belongs.Poeltl is no longer a shutdown candidate and has legit top-50 upside with his multi-category abilities. His departure also makes ... [More]
Mon Dec 19 202216:53John Collins Set To Make Return Monday
Atlanta Hawks power forward John Collins (ankle) is on track to suit up for Monday's contest vs. Orlando after having missed the previous eight contests due to a sprained left ankle. Prior to his injury, Collins had averaged 12.3 points and 7.5 boards across his first 22 games, averaging fewer than double-digit shot attempts for the first time since his rookie year in 2017-18. With Clint Capela (calf) sidelined for the time being, Collins has the opportunity to see his rebounding numbers improve; back on Oct. 21 against the Magic, the 25-year-old delivered a 23-point, 13-rebound performance. Fantasy managers can expect Collins to be somewhat eased back into the mix but a three-game week against favorable opponents (Orlando, Chicago, Detroit) will likely be beneficial to his production.

Thu Dec 1 202219:30John Collins To Miss At Least Two Weeks
When it rains, it pours. Atlanta Hawks power forward John Collins (ankle) suffered an ankle sprain in Wednesday's contest versus the Orlando Magic. With the Hawks forward in constant trade rumors and experiencing an underwhelming start to the season in terms of his counting stats, Collins has an uphill battle to get back on track. Fantasy managers might want to look for another alternative, as it's reported he will be out for at least two weeks. While his per-game averages don't impress, Collins' on-off stats do him justice, with the Hawks' offensive rating plus-2.7 better with him in the lineup.
