Wed Sep 6 202301:03Daniel Gafford's Role To Grow This Year?
Chase Hughes of NBC Sports Washington believes Washington Wizards center Daniel Gafford's role could be of greater importance this season. Hughes points out how Gafford should be Washington's primary screen-setter with Kristaps Porzingis out of the mix, and that the Wizards could play at a quicker tempo with new general manager Will Dawkins in the front office. Lastly, Gafford's rim protection should be a focal point of the team's defense after the 24-year-old averaged 1.3 blocks in just 20.6 minutes last season. The big man has a pretty clear runway to minutes at the 5 in D.C. after Gafford registered a hyper-efficient 73.9% true-shooting rate last year. He should be a great source of field goal percentage, rebounds, and blocks in fantasy this year, but Gafford will need to cut down on the fouls a bit to command more playing time.

Mon Mar 27 202322:31Daniel Gafford Dealing With A Sore Foot
Washington Wizards center Daniel Gafford (foot) is questionable for Tuesday's game against the Celtics. Gafford logged 29 minutes in Sunday's loss to the Raptors, finishing with 10 points, eight boards, and one block. However, he's in danger of missing this one because of a sore left foot. If the 24-year-old is ruled out, Kristaps Porzingis should slide over to the middle. At the same time, Taj Gibson may make a rare appearance, although he's not someone to consider for fantasy purposes.

Tue Feb 7 202321:59Daniel Gafford Not Listed On Wednesday's Injury Report
Washington Wizards center Daniel Gafford (leg) is not listed on the injury report ahead of Wednesday's game against the Charlotte Hornets. Gafford briefly left Monday's game and was noticeably limping after appearing to tweak something in his leg. Despite this, Gafford appears to have avoided an injury and should be good to go Wednesday. If Gafford is limited in any way, expect Deni Avdija and Taj Gibson to see extra minutes.

Tue Jan 31 202317:42Daniel Gafford Questionable For Wednesday
Washington Wizards center Daniel Gafford (illness) is questionable to play Wednesday against the Detroit Pistons. Gafford missed Monday's game with a non-COVID illness and is danger of missing another on Wednesday. Corey Kispert got the spot start with Kristaps Porzingis logging the majority of the center minutes, but Deni Avdija was the main benefactor, finishing with 25 points and nine rebounds. If Gafford is unable to go, Avdija would likely see a boost in usage once again.

Mon Jan 30 202319:09Daniel Gafford Ruled Out For Monday
Washington Wizards center Daniel Gafford (illness) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the San Antonio Spurs. He was considered questionable earlier in the day due to a non-COVID related illness. Luckily for Washington, fellow big man Kristaps Porzingis will make his return to the court on Monday. The Wizards will likely try and fill the void of Gafford with Corey Kispert and Taj Gibson. Kispert is worth streaming while he's in the starting five, but Deni Avdija is the better option between the two right now.

Mon Jan 30 202314:45Daniel Gafford Added To Injury Report
Washington Wizards center Daniel Gafford (illness) has been added to the injury report ahead of Monday's game against the San Antonio Spurs. The big man is reportedly dealing with a non-COVID related illness. The good news is, Kristaps Porzingis (ankle) is expected to get back on the court Monday. His return would ease the blow of Gafford sitting out. Otherwise, Corey Kispert and Taj Gibson would likely benefit the most if both players are unable to play. Kispert is the much better streaming option between the two players. Fantasy managers will have to check back closer to game time for another update on Gafford.

Sun Jan 29 202308:28Daniel Gafford Has An Outstanding Game Against Pelicans
Washington Wizards center Daniel Gafford had a great all-around performance against New Orleans on Saturday, scoring a season-high 21 points and recording 12 rebounds, two assists, one steal and five blocks. He truly gave his all in 29 minutes on the floor and helped the team to a 113-103 win, even with Kyle Kuzma and Bradley Beal combining for only 26 points. Gafford had just one make from the field fewer than the star duo, shooting 8-for-11. Jonas Valanciunas' early ejection was definitely a boost for Gafford on Saturday, but he has been a productive per-minute player the whole campaign, and the 24-year-old currently has a clear pathway to additional playing time with Kristaps Porzingis (ankle) on the shelf.

Fri Jan 13 202317:55Daniel Gafford Good To Go Against New York
Washington Wizards center Daniel Gafford (ankle) will play on Friday night against the Knicks. The 24-year-old didn't suit up on Wednesday versus the Chicago Bulls, opening the door for Taj Gibson to get the start and finish just shy of a low-end double-double. Gafford has averaged only 7.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks this season, so he hasn't been the most reliable fantasy option. However, he's been known to get hot, so he could come in handy for those looking to fill a hole in the lineup.

Fri Jan 13 202315:13Kristaps Porzingis and Daniel Gafford Listed As Questionable
Washington Wizards big men Kristaps Porzingis (ribs) and Daniel Gafford (ankle) both missed the team's last game on Wednesday night and now they're in danger of missing another. On Wednesday against the Chicago Bulls, Taj Gibson received the starting nod while Rui Hachimura and Anthony Gill saw some extra playing time off of the bench. The team made Vernon Carey Jr. available as well in case they needed more front-court help. If fantasy managers are looking for streaming help, Gibson and Hachimura would be the best bets.

Wed Jan 11 202318:46Daniel Gafford And Kristaps Porzingis Ruled Out
The Washington Wizards will be very thin in the frontcourt on Wednesday with Daniel Gafford (ankle) and Kristaps Porzingis (ribs) both ruled out. Gafford and Porzingis were both questionable with their respective ailments but neither could play through the injuries. Deni Avdija will get the spot start and would be a great streaming option. On the other side of the court, Chicago Bulls center Nikola Vucevic should be in for a huge day with the Wizards shorthanded.

Wed Jan 11 202314:46Daniel Gafford Listed As Questionable
Washington Wizards center Daniel Gafford (ankle) is questionable for Wednesday's matchup against the Bulls. He sprained his right ankle against New Orleans on Monday and could now be unavailable for the first time this term. Gafford is a recent addition to the starting lineup and has averaged 12.0 points with 6.5 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in the new role. He could have a massive part to play in Wednesday's game if Kristaps Porzingis (ribs) isn't able to make it on the court. If Gafford himself is unavailable, Rui Hachimura should get a lot of extra minutes, while other bench pieces like Deni Avdija and Will Barton could benefit as well.

Tue Jan 10 202307:48Daniel Gafford Exits With An Ankle Sprain
Washington Wizards center Daniel Gafford sprained his right ankle against New Orleans on Monday and couldn't complete the contest. It was a very unfortunate injury, as Gafford tweaked his ankle after finishing off a dunk in the fourth quarter. He played for 23 minutes and exited with 13 points, four rebounds and two assists. The 24-year-old has played some great stuff since earning a promotion to the starting unit on Dec. 20, averaging 12.0 points with 6.5 rebounds and 1.3 blocks. Deni Avdija and Rui Hachimura are in line to pick up most of Gafford's minutes if he is forced to spend some time on the shelf.

Tue Jan 3 202323:03Daniel Gafford Puts Up Double-Double Versus Bucks
Washington Wizards center Daniel Gafford finished with 12 boards and 11 points during Tuesday's loss to Milwaukee. The 24-year-old averaged 11.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks in his seven starts entering this one, so his double-double was an improvement. Gafford continues to produce, making him a viable fantasy option for managers in deeper formats.

Sun Mar 27 202216:43Daniel Gafford Available On Sunday
Washington Wizards center Daniel Gafford (neck) is available for Sunday's game against the Golden State Warriors. He is dealing with a neck strain, but should be able to get back on the court here. That means, Thomas Bryant will have a limited role if he gets into the game at all. Kristaps Porzingis and Gafford should absorb a majority of the minutes at the center spot.

Fri Mar 25 202214:47Daniel Gafford Won't Suit Up On Friday
Washington Wizards center Daniel Gafford (neck) has been downgraded to out for Friday's game against the Detroit Pistons. Gafford wasn't expected to play here as he continues to deal with a neck strain. Thomas Bryant will be tasked with backing up Kristaps Porzingis at center. Bryant has been a decent fantasy option whenever he gets significant playing time. However, Bryant hasn't been playing much lately, but will get a chance on Friday. Fantasy managers should consider him a low-end streaming option until Gafford returns.

Thu Feb 17 202214:51Daniel Gafford Returning Versus Nets
Washington Wizards center Daniel Gafford has been removed from the injury report ahead of Thursday's game against the Brooklyn Nets. He hasn't played since Feb. 5, so fantasy managers should expect Gafford to be limited with his minutes. Kristaps Porzingis (knee) is likely to return after the All-Star break. That being said, Gafford might not have any long-term fantasy value. He'll be a risky option for Thursday's slate since it's his first game back.

Mon Feb 14 202217:52Daniel Gafford To Remain Out On Monday
Washington Wizards center Daniel Gafford (conditioning) has cleared the league's health and safety protocols after being sidelined due to COVID-19. However, he will remain out on Monday as he needs to ramp up his conditioning still. The former Arkansas Razorback hasn't played since February 5. Thomas Bryant, Rui Hachimura and Anthony Gill have been the team's primary big men beside Kyle Kuzma since the trade deadline. Bryant and Hachimura both have fantasy potential, but they've been splitting minutes too much lately for either to stand out.

Thu Dec 2 202109:44Daniel Gafford Extends Double-Double Streak
Washington Wizards center Daniel Gafford recorded a third consecutive double-double in Wednesday's win over Minnesota, scoring 18 points on 7-for-10 shooting and pulling down 10 boards. He swatted away three shots and had one steal with one assist and three turnovers in 27 minutes. Gafford is enjoying his best spell of the season and finds himself in another favorable matchup on Friday against Cleveland. The Cavs are running with Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley in the starting five, but centers are shooting nearly 59 percent from the field against them, and their rebounding numbers against the center position aren't too great either.

Sat Nov 20 202118:49Daniel Gafford To Return Against Heat
Washington Wizards center Daniel Gafford (thumb) will play during Saturday's game against the Miami Heat. That means, it'll only be a one-game absence for the young center. His last appearance before going down with a thumb sprain was his best of the season. Sadly, he'll draw a tough assignment against Bam Adebayo (knee) who was cleared to play. Fantasy managers in season long formats should feel fine with Gafford back in their lineups. Although, he won't be the best DFS option, but neither will Montrezl Harrell who will have a decreased role with Gafford returning.

Thu Nov 18 202119:13Daniel Gafford Ruled Out Against Heat
Washington Wizards center Daniel Gafford (thumb) has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Miami Heat. He was expected to test out his thumb pregame, but apparently it didn't go well. Montrezl Harrell will move into the starting five and have fantastic DFS appeal for Thursday's slate. Harrell is already a solid option with Gafford playing, but now he'll see more minutes and hopefully a higher usage. The hope is that Gafford is only going to miss this game from a thumb injury.
