Burke scored 15 points (6-12 FG, 3-5 3Pt) and handed out five assists over 27 minutes during Tuesday's preseason win over the Lakers.

Though Dante Exum's season-ending ACL tear is believed to put Burke in position to hang on to the starting job, his role was called into some question after Brazilian import Raul Neto shined both defensively and as a distributor in the preseason opener. However, Burke probably performed better of the two players on Tuesday night, and offers more appeal from a fantasy perspective due to his ability to put up points. Burke hasn't been particularly efficient over his two seasons in the NBA with a 37.4 shooting mark from the field, but if he can show even modest growth in that regard in 2015-16, he may be able to hold off Neto for minutes.

Burke is in line to start for Utah this season with Dante Exum (knee) expected to miss the entire 2015-16 campaign, Aaron Falk of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.

Burke lost the starting point guard position halfway through last season but it appears that coach Quin Snyder will be forced into trudging out Burke despite his poor defense and shot selection. Barring a trade acquisition, the only competition for Burke is Raul Neto who offers a more traditional take to the role of a point guard with a pass-first mentality that will enable Alec Burks, Gordon Hayward, and Derrick Favors to be the focal points of the offense. Over time Snyder could favor Neto for that reason, but as for now it seems that Burke will get plenty of minutes during the season ahead and could even be taken in the later rounds of standard-sized leagues based on brute force production from the significant minutes that he'll be playing on a nightly basis.
