Fri Mar 2222:18Hunter Renfroe Hits First Spring Homer On Friday
Kansas City Royals outfielderHunter Renfroe went 1-for-3 with a walk and hit his first home run of spring training on Friday in an 11-5 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. The home run was a welcome development for the 32-year-old veteran, who's having a very underwhelming spring after dealing with lower back tightness in February. He's hitting .179 with a .589 OPS in 28 AB this spring. He'll look to improve on a subpar 2023 season, and ATC projects a .244/.306/.437 slash line with 20 HR and 62 RBI. With an ADP of 232.3, Renfroe will likely only be a depth option for managers and is a starting option in deep-league and AL-Only formats.

Mon Feb 2612:47Hunter Renfroe Dealing With Lower-Back Tightness
Kansas City Royals outfielder Hunter Renfroe (back) has been dealing with some lower-back tightness in camp, according to manager Matt Quatraro, which is why he hasn't appeared in a Cactus League game yet. Renfroe will take part in the team's workout on Monday, though, and he's scheduled to make his spring training debut on Wednesday. Quatraro said there is no concern about Renfroe's availability. The 32-year-old right-handed-hitting veteran should be fine for Opening Day in late March and is projected to serve as Kansas City's starting right fielder in 2024 after signing a two-year deal with the club in free agency in the offseason. Renfroe didn't square the ball up often in 2023 despite managing to hit 20 home runs in 140 games. Outside of being a decent source of power, Renfroe shouldn't excite fantasy managers all that much in mixed leagues at this stage.

Fri Dec 15 202311:34Hunter Renfroe Goes To The Royals On Two-Year Deal
Free-agent outfielder Hunter Renfroe agreed on a two-year, $13 million with the Kansas City Royals on Friday. Renfroe will have the ability to opt out of the deal (player option) after Year 1 at $6.5 million. The deal also includes incentives. Renfroe will add a veteran presence for a rebuilding Royals team and will have an everyday outfield role as he makes the move to the American League Central. The 31-year-old right-handed slugger spent 2023 with the Los Angeles Angels and Cincinnati Reds, slashing a disappointing .233/.297/.416 with 20 home runs, 31 doubles, 60 RBI and 60 runs scored in 140 total games. The 20 homers were the fewest he's had in a season in his eight-year big-league career. Renfroe should still provide decent power for KC and as outfield depth in fantasy leagues, but nobody should be banking on a return to the 30-homer plateau in 2024.

Mon Sep 18 202314:53Hunter Renfroe Designated For Assignment
The Cincinnati Reds designated outfielder Hunter Renfroe for assignment on Monday and activated outfielder Stuart Fairchild (illness) from the COVID-19 injured list in a corresponding move. The Reds claimed Renfroe off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels last month, but he went just 5-for-39 (.128) with a home run, four RBI and four runs scored in 14 games for the Reds before they decided to go in another direction. With Harrison Bader (groin) also going on the injured list on Monday, the Reds are going to have more opportunities in their outfield down the stretch of the 2023 season. In 140 games overall for the Halos and Reds this year, Renfroe hit .233/.297/.416 with 20 home runs, 31 doubles, 60 RBI and 60 runs scored in 548 trips to the plate.

Tue Sep 5 202318:37Hunter Renfroe Scratched On Tuesday
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Hunter Renfroe (hamstring) has been scratched ahead of Tuesday's game against the Seattle Mariners. The 31-year-old slugger was pulled from the lineup due to left hamstring tightness. The organization believes the injury is day-to-day, so Renfroe shouldn't require a trip to the injured list. In his absence, Harrison Bader will cover center field and bat seventh versus right-hander Bryce Miller. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups with Renfroe sidelined.

Thu Aug 31 202314:16Reds Claim Hunter Renfroe Off Waivers From Angels
The Cincinnati Reds on Thursday claimed outfielder Hunter Renfroe off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels, according to sources. The Reds are just a game out of the final wild-card spot in the National League, so they decided to add some outfield depth on Thursday by picking up both Renfroe and Harrison Bader. The 31-year-old Renfroe should be a lineup regular for Cincinnati the rest of the way, either in a corner-outfield spot or at designated hitter. In 126 games for the Angels in 2023, he's hit .242/.304/.434 with 19 home runs, 31 doubles, 56 RBI and 56 runs scored in 504 plate appearances. Will Benson and Nick Senzel will most likely move back to bench roles in Cincinnati for the final month of the regular season.

Fri Jul 28 202302:43Hunter Renfroe Shows Signs Of Life Thursday
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Hunter Renfroe had a big day Thursday, going 6-for-9 with a homer, two doubles, two runs, and two RBI over their doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers. It's a much-needed strong showing for the 31-year-old, who has struggled mightily since a strong April, especially in July where he had slashed just .179/.313/.304 coming into today. He probably doesn't need to be rostered in standard leagues, but given his power profile he should be watched closely in those leagues. He still has appeal in five-outfielder leagues and other deeper formats.

Thu Jul 27 202319:46Hunter Renfroe Goes Yard Versus Tigers
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Hunter Renfroe was 3-for-5 at the plate in an 11-4 win over the Tigers in the second game of a doubleheader Thursday. Renfroe smacked a solo shot in the sixth inning off of Detroit right-handed reliever Trey Wingenter. He also recorded an RBI single in the ninth frame. In the double bill, the 31-year-old recorded six hits. This season Renfroe carries a batting average of .249 with 16 home runs and 44 RBI in 357 at-bats.

Mon Jul 3 202318:18Hunter Renfroe Returning To Starting Lineup Monday
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Hunter Renfroe is back in the starting lineup Monday night when the club opens a series against the San Diego Padres and left-hander Blake Snell. Playing time has been crowded in the Angels' outfield of late with Mickey Moniak getting starts against right-handed pitching, but Renfroe returns Monday against the southpaw. It's been a solid, if unspectacular season at the dish for the veteran as he's hitting .246 while supplying his usual power with 14 homers across 78 appearances. However, the 31-year-old has recorded just two hits -- albeit both of which were home runs -- over his last six starts and 24 plate appearances. He'll hit fifth and move to first base on Monday night in San Diego.

Mon Jun 26 202319:12Hunter Renfroe Out Of Monday's Lineup
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Hunter Renfroe is not in the team's starting lineup for the series opener against the Chicago White Sox on Monday. The day off for Renfroe isn't because he's slumping at the plate. The 31-year-old slugger has been red-hot at the dish in his last eight games, going 12-for-29 (.414), although he hasn't gone deep since June 13. He's hitting .288 (19-for-66) with two homers, seven doubles and eight RBI in 17 games in the month of June. Renfroe has been a nice addition for the Halos in 2023 with 18 doubles, 12 home runs and 37 RBI in 71 total games. Mickey Moniak is getting the start in right field on Monday and is batting leadoff for the Angels against White Sox right-hander Dylan Cease.

Sat Jun 24 202319:13Hunter Renfroe Shifts Over To First Base
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Hunter Renfroe will move into the infield for Saturday's game against the Colorado Rockies. The Angels have decided to shake things up with the addition of Eduardo Escobar. That being said, the Halos will move Renfroe from the outfield to first base on Saturday. This marks only the fourth time in his career that Renfroe has played first base. It'll be interesting to see if the Angels keep Renfroe there long term. This season, Renfroe is slashing .247/.295/.442 with 12 home runs and 33 RBI in 65 games.

Thu Jun 15 202319:07Hunter Renfroe Missing From Lineup On Thursday
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Hunter Renfroe is not included in Thursday's lineup against the Texas Rangers. Mickey Moniak will cover right field and hit sixth in his absence. Renfroe is trending down in a big way lately, hitting just .169 with two homers and four RBI over his last 71 at-bats. The 31-year-old is slowly unraveling into a fringe option in shallow fantasy leagues while losing opportunity in Anaheim's heart of the order. Renfroe looks to get back on track during a weekend series against the Kansas City Royals beginning on Friday.

Fri Jun 9 202322:58Hunter Renfroe Expected To Come Off Paternity List Saturday
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Hunter Renfroe is expected to come off the paternity list on Saturday. Renfroe's stint on the list was short-lived, as expected, so he'll likely be back in the lineup on Saturday against the Seattle Mariners. The 31-year-old has hit .252 with 32 runs, 57 hits, 30 RBI, and 11 home runs this season. He's also gone 5-for-16 in June, so fantasy managers are hoping he'll pick right up where he left off.

Wed Jun 7 202321:17Hunter Renfroe Goes On Paternity List
The Los Angeles Angels placed outfielder Hunter Renfroe on the paternity list on Wednesday and recalled outfielder Jo Adell from Triple-A Salt Lake in a corresponding move. Renfroe will be out for up to three games, so fantasy managers should expect to have him back at some point this weekend in the series against the division-rival Seattle Mariners. He's gotten off to a nice start in July, going 5-for-16 (.313) with a solo homer in four games to raise his season slash line to .252/.302/.451 with 11 home runs and 30 RBI in 226 at-bats. Mickey Moniak is in right field for the second straight game on Wednesday for the Angels, and he's batting leadoff against Chicago Cubs right-hander Jameson Taillon.

Tue Jun 6 202321:09Hunter Renfroe Sitting On Tuesday
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Hunter Renfroe is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's matchup with Hayden Wesneski and the Chicago Cubs. The eight-year veteran is still slugging in his first season in L.A., batting .252 with 11 bombs, 32 runs, 30 RBI, and no steals over 58 games. Mickey Moniak will get an opportunity in right field and bat eighth. The former first-overall pick in 2016 is on fire right now, slashing .327/.340/.694 with four homers, nine runs, seven RBI, and a pair of steals across 14 contests since making his season debut on May 31. Moniak isn't in a starting role but has value in just about every league as a streaming option.

Sun May 28 202314:41Hunter Renfroe Getting A Rest Sunday
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Hunter Renfroe is getting a breather on Sunday in the matchup with Eury Perez and the Miami Marlins. The veteran has been solid with the bat, slashing .250/.303/.450 with 10 bombs, 30 runs, and 29 RBI across 51 contests. Taylor Ward will get a chance to play, batting eighth. The 29-year-old was the Angels leadoff hitter to begin the season but has lost playing time after batting .224 with a .613 OPS. Fantasy managers may want to stream a different option for outfield help.

Tue May 16 202315:51Hunter Renfroe Out, Mickey Moniak Batting Leadoff
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Hunter Renfroe is not in the starting lineup on Tuesday against right-hander Dean Kremer and the Baltimore Orioles. It looks to be just a normal day of rest for Renfroe, who is hitting .258 (41-for-159) on the season with nine doubles, 10 home runs, 28 RBI and 26 runs scored in 175 plate appearances and 40 games played. He continues to be a nice source of power in an improved Angels lineup in 2023. With the 31-year-old veteran riding pine on Tuesday, Mickey Moniak will start in right field and bat leadoff against Kremer. Moniak has played in just two games for the Halos this year and is 4-for-8 with a solo home run and two stolen bases. He has a career .174 average (28-for-161) in 68 games in the big leagues over four seasons.

Tue Apr 25 202321:05Hunter Renfroe Sitting Tuesday
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Hunter Renfroe is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against Mason Miller and the Oakland Athletics. The 31-year-old is slashing .270/.343/.551 with six long balls, 16 runs, and 18 RBI over 23 games. Luis Rengifo is taking his spot in right field, batting sixth. The five-year veteran isn't having a great season with the bat, batting .197 with one home run and one steal across 20 contests. Rengifo has had success before, specifically in 2022, when he hit .264 with 17 bombs, so at least fantasy managers have somewhat of a track record if he's streamed.

Wed Apr 19 202321:35Hunter Renfroe Struggling On Road Trip
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Hunter Renfroe has been struggling over the Angels' seven-game road trip. The Angels visited the Washington Nationals for a four-game set, followed by a three-game stint in the Bronx, which is currently underway in its second game. Over the past seven games, Renfroe is slashing .240/.321/.480 with just 6 six hits across 25 at-bats. Although, the 31-year-old was quite productive in their six-game homestand in early April. He's hit four home runs over the past 15 games with a .623 SLG. Renfroe is likely to get back into his groove if his bat begins to pop, and the Angels don't take his heavy power lightly. On the season, the Mississippi native is hitting .258/.355/.491 with a .870 OPS and 16 RBI.

Sat Feb 18 202321:02Hunter Renfroe Wins Arbitration Hearing

The 31-year-old hit .255/.315/.492 with 29 home runs and 72 RBI in 125 games with the Milwaukee Brewers. He is hopeful to put together another strong season in 2023 as he is eligible to be a free agent after the season.
