Wed Sep 13 202314:06Elias Diaz Sitting Wednesday Versus Cubs
Colorado Rockies catcher Elias Diaz is not in the club's starting lineup for Wednesday afternoon's contest against the Chicago Cubs and right-hander Jameson Taillon. It's not a surprise to see the All-Star backstop get the afternoon off following a night contest on Tuesday in which he logged a trio of singles and an RBI in the Rockies' 6-4 triumph over the Cubs. The 32-year-old made the All-Star team on the back of a .277 average and .761 OPS in the season's first half but Diaz has hit .263 with a .702 OPS since the All-Star break. Austin Wynns will take over the behind the plate and hit ninth against Taillon Wednesday in Denver.

Wed Sep 6 202312:38Elias Diaz Gets A Breather
Colorado Rockies catcher Elias Diaz is taking the day off on Wednesday with the team facing the Arizona Diamondbacks. Austin Wynns will do the catching instead and bat ninth against Diamondbacks right-hander Zach Davies. This will be Diaz's first day off since Aug. 22. The 32-year-old All-Star backstop is batting .211 (4-for-19) with one double, two RBI, seven strikeouts and two runs scored in five games (four starts) to begin the month of September. In his fourth year in Colorado in 2023, Diaz is slashing .268/.315/.415 with 13 home runs, 22 doubles, a triple, 64 RBI and 41 runs scored in a career-high 123 games played. Wynns should be avoided in DFS. He's gone 18-for-94 (.191) this year with only one round-tripper.

Sat Jul 22 202311:04Elias Diaz Getting Day Off On Saturday
Colorado Rockies catcher Elias Diaz is out of Saturday's lineup against the Miami Marlins. It appears to be a maintenance day for the 32-year-old. Austin Wynns hits ninth and takes over behind the plate to catch right-hander Chase Anderson for this one. Diaz, the 2023 All-Star Game MVP, went deep on Friday night to end an 18-game homerless slump, going a brutal 8-for-55 over this skid. Fantasy managers should expect the backstop to return to action for Sunday's series finale in Miami. Diaz has served as a top-10 fantasy catcher in roto leagues this year, batting .268 with 10 big flies, 46 RBI, and 28 runs scored in 298 at-bats.

Sun Jul 16 202314:29Elias Diaz Getting Sunday Off
Colorado Rockies All-Star catcher Elias Diaz will begin Sunday's contest against Gerrit Cole and the New York Yankees on the bench. The 32-year-old has been a solid source of offense from behind the plate, batting .271 with nine homers, 27 runs, and 45 RBI over 82 games. Austin Wynns will take care of the catching duties instead and bat ninth. The fifth-year player is not much of a threat with the bat and is slashing just .207/.254/.293 this season across 25 games. There are much better backstop options on the waiver wire.

Wed Jul 12 202300:17Elias Diaz Voted All-Star Game MVP
Colorado Rockies catcher Elias Diaz was voted Tuesday's All-Star Game Most Valuable Player in a 3-2 win over the American League team. Diaz went 1-for-2 with a go-ahead two-run home run and a strikeout. His big at-bat came in the eighth inning down by a run with no outs and the tying run on second. Facing Felix Bautista, he launched a splitter into the left-field seats to put the National League team ahead 3-2, which would be the final score. The 32-year-old was the only Rockies All-Star representative and became the first Rockies player to win All-Star MVP honors. Diaz has had a solid offensive season, slashing .277/.328/.435 with nine HR and 45 RBI. He should continue to be a viable fantasy option in the second half with the benefit of hitting in Coors Field.

Mon Jun 12 202315:09Elias Diaz Returns To Rockies Lineup Monday
Colorado Rockies catcher Elias Diaz (head) is back behind the plate and is hitting cleanup on Monday against the Boston Red Sox and left-hander James Paxton. Diaz was removed from Saturday's game early after taking a foul tip to the mask and he sat out of Sunday's series finale, but he'll be back in there on Monday after avoiding a concussion. The 32-year-old Venezuelan backstop has been excellent offensively for the Rockies and fantasy managers so far in 2023, hitting .294 (58-for-197) with 13 doubles, six home runs, 29 RBI and 22 runs scored in 57 games played. Diaz has cooled off so far in June, though, going 4-for-29 (.138) with two doubles, no homers, two RBI and eight strikeouts in 31 trips to the plate over eight games. Fantasy managers hope he can get back on track to begin the week.

Sun Jun 11 202313:23Elias Diaz Absent From The Rockies Lineup On Sunday
Colorado Rockies catcher Elias Diaz (head) is not in the lineup for Sunday's series finale against the San Diego Padres. The veteran backstop exited Saturday's contest early after being struck in the face mask with a foul tip so that explains why he's out on Sunday. Mon May 15 202315:29C.J. Cron, Elias Diaz, Jurickson Profar Resting
Colorado Rockies first baseman C.J. Cron (back), catcher Elias Diaz and outfielder Jurickson Profar are all out of the starting lineup on Monday against the Cincinnati Reds. Cron left the game on Sunday against the Philadelphia Phillies with back spasms and will likely land on the injured list on Monday. He does have six home runs and 19 RBI in 35 games so far in 2023, but he's also hitting just .228 (31-for-136). Mike Moustakas is playing first base and hitting cleanup on Monday, and he should see more playing time with Cron sidelined for a bit. Austin Wynns is catching and batting eighth, while Randal Grichuk is in left field and hitting fifth against Reds right-hander Hunter Greene.

Sun Aug 21 202213:08Elias Diaz Activated From The 10-Day Injured List
Colorado Rockies catcher Elias Diaz (hand) has been activated from the 10-day injured list on Sunday. The 31-year-old backstop hit the IL back on August 11 with ligament damage in his right hand. It was a minimum stay on the injured list for Diaz who's slashing .230/.294/.371 with six home runs and 33 RBI across 256 at-bats for the Rockies this year. Brian Serven is starting behind the plate on Sunday for Colorado but Diaz should start rotating back into the lineup as early as Tuesday vs. the Texas Rangers.

Fri Aug 12 202211:52Elias Diaz Expected To Land On Injured List
Colorado Rockies catcher Elias Diaz (hand) exited early during Wednesday's matchup against the St. Louis Cardinals. The 31-year-old aggravated his right hand, while swinging during the contest. The organization did further testing and it revealed damage in his right hand. That being said, the Rockies are almost certainly going to place Diaz on the injured list. Dom Nunez should take his place on the roster, but he doesn't offer much upside with the bat. Brian Serven will likely get a majority of the starts behind home plate. He's a little better with the bat, but shouldn't be considered a reliable fantasy option.

He hit his 18th double of the season and picked up a single as well. The 30-year-old backstop is 15-for-50 (.300/.352/.580) over his last 15 games and swatted three home runs over that span. Overall, he's got a decent .239/.306/.466 batting line with 18 home runs and 42 RBI over 326 at-bats. He's been a decent power source out of the catcher position this season but his rate stats leave a lot to be desired.

The game would go into extra innings where the Rockies would eventually lose. Diaz is slashing a lackluster .236/.303/.468 on the season but has posted career-highs in home runs (18) and RBI (41) over his 314 at-bats. Wed Sep 8 202122:53Elias Diaz Shows Off His Power On Wednesday
Colorado Rockies catcher Elias Diaz went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, two doubles, and a run scored in a 7-4 loss to the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday. Diaz had a big day at the plate, swatting a pair of doubles and a solo home run. He was the only player on the Rockies to go deep and he hit 2/3 of their extra-base hits in the three-run loss to the Giants. Diaz's power is undeniable with 15 doubles and 16 home runs over 284 at-bats this season. However, those counting stats go along with a lackluster .232/.303/.461 batting line. He's been more productive and consistent than fellow backstop Dom Nunez but he's been hard to roster due to his inconsistency.

Sun Aug 29 202113:25Elias Diaz Doubles In Saturday's Loss
Colorado Rockies catcher Elias Diaz went 1-for-3 with a double and a strikeout in a 5-2 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday. The 30-year-old backstop has been hot over the last seven games, slashing .320/.393/.720 with two home runs, four RBI, and nine runs scored. Overall, he's got a subpar .234/.300/.456 batting line with 15 home runs and 34 RBI across 261 at-bats. The counting stats are decent for a catcher that splits time but his rate stats leave a lot to be desired.

Sun Aug 22 202111:43Elias Diaz Walks It Off On Saturday
Colorado Rockies catcher Elias Diaz had a big game on Saturday, going 1-for-3 with a three-run homer, two runs scored, a walk, and a strikeout in a 5-2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Diaz reached base with a walk and scored via a Garrett Hampson game-tying home run in the eighth inning. He was still hitless heading into the bottom of the ninth when he swatted a walk-off, three-run bomb off J.B. Wendelken to win the ball game for Colorado. Diaz has come clutch multiple times for the Rockies this year and is now up to 14 home runs and 33 RBI on the season. He pairs those counting stats with a lackluster .232/.299/.451 batting line, which makes him hard to roster in standard fantasy leagues.
