Sat Jan 21 202312:21Royals Sign Johan Camargo To Minor-League Deal
The Kansas City Royals signed free-agent infielder Johan Camargo to a minor-league deal on Saturday. Camargo will provide the rebuilding Royals with some veteran infield depth for 2023. The 29-year-old hit .237/.297/.316 with a .613 OPS, three home runs, 15 RBI and eight runs scored in just 52 games in his first year with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2022. He's more useful for his glove and defensive versatility on the infield, so Camargo most likely won't come into play in fantasy leagues, even the deepest ones. In his six-year major-league career, Camargo has a .255/.313/.410 slash line with a .723 OPS, 37 home runs, 159 RBI, 149 runs scored and two stolen bases in 1,339 plate appearances over 416 games. He won't be guaranteed to be on KC's Opening Day roster.

Tue Dec 6 202201:13Johan Camargo Still A Free Agent
Many teams are checking in on free-agent infielder Johan Camargo, who is currently playing in the Dominican Republic for Las Aguilas. Camargo was believed to have signed a minor-league deal with the Minnesota Twins last week, but that didn't end up happening and he's still available. The 28-year-old is looking for a roster spot on a major-league roster or will take an opportunity in Asia. The switch-hitting utility man played in 52 games for the Philadelphia Phillies in 2022, hitting .237/.297/.316 with three home runs, 15 RBI and eight runs scored in 166 plate appearances. If he returns to the MLB next year, he'll most likely serve as a bench bat with limited offensive upside in fantasy. Camargo has a career .255/.313/.410 slash line with a .723 OPS in 416 games over six seasons.

Fri Jun 17 202211:59Johan Camargo To Begin Rehab Assignment On Friday
Philadelphia Phillies infielder Johan Camargo (knee) is set to begin a rehab assignment on Friday. He was diagnosed with a right knee strain around a week and a half ago. There's a chance that Camargo is ready to roster to the Phillies roster in a few days. He hasn't done a ton at the plate this season, but is a solid option off the bench. He'll likely take away playing time from Alec Bohm when he returns.

Thu Dec 2 202115:51Johan Camargo Signs With Phillies
The Philadelphia Phillies signed infielder Johan Camargo to a one-year, $1.4 million deal on Wednesday night before MLB entered a lockout on Thursday. The deal includes $100,000 in incentives. Camargo became a free agent when the Atlanta Braves didn't tender him a contract for 2022. Right-hander Adonis Medina was designated for assignment to clear a 40-man roster space for Camargo. The 27-year-old switch-hitter will be a solid bench option for the Phillies after he hit .326/.401/.557 in 104 games at Triple-A in 2021. In just 15 games for Atlanta last season, Camargo didn't have a single hit while walking twice and striking out six times in 18 plate appearances. In five big-leagues seasons for the Braves, Camargo has a .257/.315/.423 slash line with 34 home runs, 144 RBI and 141 runs scored in 364 games.

Wed Dec 1 202113:26Braves Non-Tender Johan Camargo, Richard Rodriguez
The Atlanta Braves have opted not to tender contracts to three players, including relief pitcher Richard Rodriguez and utilityman Johan Camargo. Jasseel De La Cruz will also be looking to link up with a new team. Rodriguez is the most notable name of the bunch, as he pitched to a 2.94 ERA and 0.93 WHIP with 14 saves for the Pirates and Braves in 2021. Acquired via trade on June 30, he was expected to fortify the Atlanta pen, but he was left off the postseason roster, and now is back on the open market. Camargo has been with Atlanta for five seasons, posting a career .738 OPS with 34 home runs while playing all over the diamond.

Tue Nov 2 202113:59Johan Camargo Replacing Ehire Adrianza On Roster
Atlanta Braves infielder Ehire Adrianza will go on the postseason paternity list on Tuesday and will miss Game 6 of the World Series to be with his wife as she prepares to give birth. Johan Camargo will replace Adrianza on the team's World Series roster. Adrianza is allowed to be away from the team for a minimum of one day and a maximum of three days. There's a possibility that Adrianza could return to the Braves if the series goes to a Game 7, which would be on Wednesday. The utility infielder has just two at-bats and no hits in the World Series against Houston, and he's hitting .091 (1-for-11) with a double and three strikeouts in this year's postseason as a bench option for Atlanta.

Thu Apr 29 202102:12Cubs' Rizzo gets a good laugh after striking out Freeman
ATLANTA (AP) — Freddie Freeman loved facing Anthony Rizzo in a lopsided game Wednesday night. He just didn’t like striking out. Freeman, the reigning NL MVP of the Atlanta Braves, was 4 for 4 before stepping in against Rizzo, the Cubs’ first baseman who had pleaded with manager David Ross to let him face Freeman with Chicago wanting to save its bullpen in the seventh inning of a 10-0 loss. “Obviously I’ve gotten to know Anthony over the years and our friendship has grown,” Freeman said. “We’ve gotten real close. I just wish I didn’t strike out.” Both players were smiling broadly as Rizzo leaned in to get the signs with Freeman in the batter’s box. They didn’t stop grinning throughout the at-bat, even when Freeman whiffed on a 61 mph curveball. Rizzo started playfully taunting Freeman once he was certain to face him. “I was on the on-deck circle (in the top of the seventh), and I had a straight shot to Freddie,” Rizzo said. “I was kind of loosening my arm up. ‘I want you,’ pointing at him.... Tue Mar 30 202116:55Soroka returns for Braves on last day of spring training
Mike Soroka surrendered a homer while working two innings for the Atlanta Braves in his 2021 debut Tuesday, a big step in the former All-Star's comeback from a torn Achilles tendon. Soroka got into the Braves’ final game of spring training at Fort Myers, Florida, taking over in the bottom of the sixth with Atlanta leading the Boston Red Sox 4-2. The 23-year-old right-hander made it through his first inning of work without giving up a run. The Red Sox put two aboard with a hit and a walk, but Soroka recorded a pair of strikeouts, including Chris Herrmann swinging to end the threat. Jarren Duran led off the next inning by launching a towering drive over the right-field wall to bring the Red Sox to 5-3. Soroka issued another walk and again had to deal with two runners aboard after Johan Camargo's throwing error. But Soroka closed out the seven-inning game by getting Jeter Downs to hit into a double play, earning a save. “It felt good. It felt really good," Soroka said “It was kind of nice... [More]
Sat Mar 27 202115:14Pablo Sandoval makes Braves' opening day roster
.ATLANTA (AP) — Kung Fu Panda has made the opening day roster for the Atlanta Braves. The team made a flurry of moves Saturday to complete its 26-man group, most notably promoting nonroster infielder Pablo Sandoval to the big league roster. The 34-year-old Sandoval is a two-time All-Star and 2012 World Series MVP looking to revive his career in a bench role with the Braves. The portly switch-hitter earned his spot with a strong spring, hitting .429 with four RBIs in 35 at-bats. “Pablo speaks for himself, just the way he comes in, his professionalism, what he adds in clubhouse, the presence has, the respect he has from everybody,” manager Brian Snitker said. “And he can still hit. He's kind of what you're looking for. He’s a guy who can sit around and stay ready.” The Braves, who open the season Thursday at Philadelphia, also selected the contracts of two other nonroster players: infielder Ehire Adrianza and reliever Nate Jones. Former All-Stars Jake Lamb and Jason Kipnis were released,... [More]
Tue Feb 23 202115:343B Jake Lamb finalizes $1 million deal with Braves
Atlanta manager Brian Snitker expects to approach key pinch-hit situations with renewed confidence this season as he looks at the Braves' newly bolstered bench. More depth was added on Tuesday when the Braves finalized a $1 million, one-year contract with third baseman Jake Lamb that is not guaranteed. The signing adds another veteran bat to an already deep competition for bench spots in spring training. Lamb, a 2017 All-Star with the Arizona Diamondbacks, was with the Braves for their first full-squad workout and will compete for a bench spot. He could provide insurance for Austin Riley, who is expected to start at third base, but he was signed for his left-handed bat as a pinch-hitter. Snitker hopes Lamb can produce off the bench the way Matt Joyce in 2019 and Eric Hinske from 2010-12 were effective with their left-handed swings. “You get late in a game and you need a double-switch, he can be a very valuable asset much like Matt Joyce did a couple years ago,” Snitker said Tuesday. “He... ATLANTA (AP) — The Atlanta Braves finalized a $1 million, one-year contract with third baseman Jake Lamb that is not guaranteed, adding another veteran bat Tuesday to an already deep competition for bench spots in spring training. He could provide insurance for Austin Riley, who is expected to start at third base. The 30-year-old Lamb joins Pablo Sandoval, Ehire Adrianza and Jason Kipnis as veterans who were added to compete for bench spots with Johan Camargo and others in spring training. “It’s a good group,” manager Brian Snitker said Monday. “All the guys so far we’ve brought in are guys who have had success in the major leagues. That’s exactly what you’re looking for with guys in sort of new roles in their career. That serves them well to have had that experience and been everyday players. I think it’s a good group that we’ll evaluate and choose... [More]

Thu Dec 3 202013:47Schwarber, Bradley, Duvall among 59 cut in pandemic fallout
NEW YORK (AP) — Kyle Schwarber and Albert Almora Jr. were cut loose by the Chicago Cubs after helping the team win its first World Series title in more than a century, among a record 59 players who became free agents as part of the fallout from the coranavirus pandemic when their teams declined to offer them 2021 contracts by Wednesday night’s deadline. Cincinnati reliever Archie Bradley, Atlanta outfielder Adam Duvall, Colorado outfielder David Dahl and Minnesota outfielder Eddie Rosario also were let go by their clubs, who did not want to allow those players to become eligible for salary arbitration in February, which would have been their right had they been tendered contracts. The total cut was one more than the previous high at the tender deadline, ahead of the 2004 season. Schwarber earned $2,596,296 in prorated pay from his $7.01 million salary last season but hit .188 with 11 homers in 59 games, down from 38 homers, 92 RBIs and a .250 batting average in 155 games in 2019. Almora... [More]

Wed Dec 2 202021:07Braves cut Duvall, agree to deals with 3 players
ATLANTA (AP) — Power-hitting outfielder Adam Duvall is a free agent after the Atlanta Braves declined to offer him a contract for the 2021 season. The team also announced it has agreed to one-year deals with three players on Wednesday, including relief pitchers Luke Jackson and Grant Dayton, along with infielder Johan Camargo. The 32-year-old Duvall became an important piece in the Braves lineup over the past two years and hit 16 homers in the abbreviated 2020 season. Duvall has 113 career homers and was an All-Star in 2016 with the Cincinnati Reds when he hit a career-high 33 homers. He earned $1,203,704 prorated last season from a $3.25 million salary. Jackson, Dayton and Camargo avoid arbitration by agreeing to their deals, which were announced before Wednesday night's deadline to offer contracts to unsigned players on 40-man rosters. The hard-throwing Jackson will be paid $1.9 million, Camargo will make $1.36 million and Dayton gets $900,000. The 29-year-old Jackson has been a big part... [More]
Sat Oct 17 202015:02Jansen shows signs of old self as Dodgers try to stay alive
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Though Kenley Jansen never lost confidence in himself, the big right-hander might be regaining that from the Los Angeles Dodgers after an inconsistent stretch. While not in a save situation, Jansen closed out Game 5 with a dominating 12-pitch performance in which he struck out the side in a 7-3 win over the Atlanta Braves with the Dodgers facing potential elimination. That came two days after another 1-2-3 inning in a midgame appearance for LA in a 15-3 win. “I feel like if it clicked out there and you know once it clicked, everything is going to come with it,” Jansen said Saturday before the Dodgers faced another potential elimination game against the Braves. In the ninth inning Friday night, Jansen threw 10 strikes and got three swinging strikeouts. His cutter was consistently in the 92-93 mph range, and Johan Camargo swung and missed on a game-ending 94 mph sinker. “It was as good as I've seen in quite some time," manager Dave Roberts said Saturday. “I thought... A look at what’s happening around the majors today: ___ CALL TO ARMS With their rotation in flux, the Los Angeles Dodgers turn to 24-year-old playoff veteran Julio Urías in Game 3 of the NL Championship Series as they try to climb out of a 2-0 hole against Atlanta. Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw was scratched from his scheduled Game 2 start Tuesday due to back spasms. The team still expects he'll be able to pitch later in the series, but it will be Urías in Game 3 against Braves rookie Kyle Wright. Urías, already pitching in his fourth postseason, was the winner in relief in the Game 3 clincher last Thursday against San Diego during the Division Series. He allowed only one hit and an unearned run over five innings. Wright threw six scoreless innings with seven strikeouts in his postseason debut in the clinching Game 3 of the NLDS against Miami. The 25-year-old righty was the fifth overall pick in the 2017 draft out of Vanderbilt. All previous 14 teams to win the first two games of a best-of-seven... [More]
