Wed Dec 13 202318:22Roberto Perez Heading To Boston
Free-agent veteran catcher Roberto Perez signed a minor-league deal with the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday. The 34-year-old Puerto Rican played just five games with the San Francisco Giants in 2023 before suffering a season-ending torn right rotator cuff. It remains to be seen if he's even ready to play in spring training, but the Red Sox are taking a chance on him anyway as catching depth for next year. Perez has played 10 seasons in the majors with the Cleveland Guardians, Pittsburgh Pirates and Giants and has hit .207/.298/.358 with 55 home runs and 193 RBI in 516 games played. He will be providing minor-league depth for Boston behind Reese McGuire and Connor Wong, who are on the current active roster.

Fri Apr 7 202321:17Roberto Perez Has A Sprained Shoulder
San Francisco Giants catcher Roberto Perez (shoulder) exited Friday's meeting with the Royals. There wasn't much information released when the injury occurred. However, Maria Guardado of MLB.com provided an update, reporting the veteran has a sprained shoulder. Perez has two hits in 15 at-bats this season while amassing a hideous .133 average, so he hasn't contributed much on the fantasy end. That said, the 34-year-old will likely miss some games. With Joey Bart (back) on the IL, Blake Sabol could be spending time behind the plate.

Fri Apr 7 202318:24Roberto Perez Removed From Friday's Game
San Francisco Giants catcher Roberto Perez (undisclosed) was pulled early during Friday's game against the Kansas City Royals. It's uncertain what happened, but Perez was taken out after attempting to throw out Kyle Isbel in the sixth inning. Blake Sabol moved from left field to behind the plate. The Giants are already without Joey Bart (back) right now. They cannot afford to lose another catcher, but fantasy managers will have to check back for another update on Perez.

Tue Jan 31 202316:13Roberto Perez Signs With Giants
Free-agent catcher Roberto Perez signed an undisclosed deal with the San Francisco Giants over the weekend, according to a source. Perez only played in 21 games for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2022 and hit .233/.333/.367 with a .700 OPS, two home runs, eight RBI and eight runs scored. The 34-year-old suffered a season-ending torn right hamstring, but he should be healthy for this year. Perez could stand a decent chance of backing up Joey Bart in 2023, but he won't really be on the fantasy radar, even in deeper leagues. In his nine-year major-league career, Perez has a .207/.298/.360 slash line with a .658 OPS, 55 home runs and 192 RBI. He's never come remotely close to replicating his 2019 season with the Cleveland Guardians, when he hit .239 with a career-high 24 home runs and 63 RBI.

Sat May 7 202219:08Roberto Perez Placed On Injured List
Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Roberto Perez (hamstring) has been placed on the 10-day injured list. He was forced to exit early during Saturday's first game of the doubleheader versus the Cincinnati Reds. Perez was unable to put any pressure on his leg, so he could end up missing significant time. Andrew Knapp and Michael Perez should split up the catching duties in Pittsburgh until Perez returns.

Fri Apr 15 202221:28Roberto Perez Leaves Friday's Game With Quad Injury
Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Roberto Perez left Friday's game against the Washington Nationals with a left quad contusion. Perez took a foul ball off of the leg during the second inning. He was able to finish out the inning but was replaced by pinch-hitter Andrew Knapp in the third. The veteran backstop is unlikely to miss much time at all with the contusion. Perez is hitting .294 with three runs and one RBI across 17 at-bats for the Pirates in 2022.

Tue Nov 30 202114:30Pirates Reportedly Sign Roberto Perez
According to a tweet from ESPN's Jeff Passan, the Pittsburgh Pirates have signed catcher Roberto Perez to a one-year contract. The 32-year-old hit .149 with a .245 on-base percentage, seven home runs, and a stolen bases in 161 plate appearances for Cleveland last season. He gives Pittsburgh a veteran option behind the plate after the team traded last season's starter, Jacob Stallings, to the Miami Marlins. Fellow catcher Michael Perez was designated for assignment and later outrighted to Triple-A by the Pirates earlier in the offseason.

Fri Nov 5 202115:35Guardians Decline Option On Roberto Perez
The Cleveland Guardians declined their option on catcher Roberto Perez Friday, making the veteran backstop a free agent. Perez would have made $7 million dollars in 2022 had the option been exercised. He will instead receive a $450 thousand dollar buyout. Perez is regarded as an excellent defensive option behind the plate, but he only managed a .149/.245/.319 slash line with seven homers in 141 at-bats this season. That performance will make it hard for him to command more than a back-up role in 2022, and leaves him off the fantasy radar entering next season.

Fri Aug 6 202118:48Roberto Perez Placed On 10-Day IL Friday
Cleveland Indians catcher Roberto Perez (shoulder) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Friday with right shoulder inflammation, according to Mandy Bell of MLB.com. To replace him on the roster, the team has recalled catcher Wilson Ramos. It's been a rough year at the plate for Perez, who is slashing .136/.246/.318 over 34 games. Ramos could be a decent option in deeper formats, as he slugged six homers in 35 games with Detroit earlier this year while slashing .200/.238/.392.

Sat Jul 17 202101:31AL East-leading Red Sox beat short-handed Yankees 4-0
NEW YORK (AP) — Eduardo Rodriguez shut down the short-handed Yankees into the sixth inning, Christian Arroyo and J.D. Martinez homered and the Boston Red Sox beat their rivals 4-0 on Friday night with New York missing slugger Aaron Judge and five others due to a coronavirus outbreak. A day after the series opener was postponed for testing and contact tracing, Judge, third baseman Gio Urshela and catcher Kyle Higashioka were added to the COVID-19 injured list. They joined Yankees pitchers Jonathan Loaisiga, Nestor Cortes Jr. and Wandy Peralta, who have also tested positive over the past week. New York was also without first baseman Luke Voit, who went on the injured list Friday with a bone bruise in his left knee. Rodriguez (7-5) allowed two hits over 5 2/3 innings, retiring 10 straight during one stretch and finishing with eight strikeouts. Hirokazu Sawamura got the final out of the sixth, and Tanner Houck pitched the final three innings, closing out Boston’s three-hitter for his first... [More]
Wed Apr 14 202101:50Red Sox top Twins in snowy game delayed after Minn. shooting
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Rafael Devers homered for the fourth straight game and the streaking Boston Red Sox beat the Minnesota Twins 4-2 on a snowy Tuesday in a series opener moved back following the fatal police shooting of a Black man in a nearby suburb. Hunter Renfroe hit a solo homer and Bobby Dalbec added a pair of RBI doubles as Boston won its seventh in a row after losing its first three games of the season. Monday’s game was postponed due to safety and sensitivity concerns in the Twin Cities after the police shooting a day earlier of Daunte Wright during a traffic stop. The Twins held a moment of silence for Wright prior to Tuesday’s game. Snow flurries fell for most of the game and it was 33 degrees for the first pitch. That made for the third-coldest start at Target Field, the record being 27 degrees on April 7, 2018. Adam Ottavino (1-0) earned the win with a scoreless inning of relief. Matt Barnes pitched a perfect ninth for his first save of the season. Randy Dobnak (0-2) took the... [More]

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Jean Segura hit an RBI single with two outs in the 10th inning to lift the Philadelphia Phillies over the Atlanta Braves 3-2 in their season opener Thursday. After Nate Jones (0-1) intentionally walked Did Gregorius, Segura hit a bouncer down the third-base line to score Bryce Harper, who began the inning as the automatic runner at second base and advanced to third on a grounder. In the top of the 10th, center fielder Roman Quinn made a perfect throw to the plate to retire Ozzie Albies, who was trying to score on Marcell Ozuna’s fly ball. Catcher J.T. Realmuto caught the ball and slid in front of the plate in one slick motion, successfully blocking Albies’ path. Phillies ace Aaron Nola was one strike away from tossing seven scoreless innings before pinch-hitter Pablo Sandoval ripped an 0-2 pitch into the second deck in right field to tie it at 2. The Phillies got 3 1/3 scoreless innings from four relievers, with Connor Brogdon (1-0) working the 10th. They had the worst... [More]

Tue Sep 22 202022:44Indians clinch postseason berth; Braves claim NL East title
CLEVELAND (AP) — José Ramírez pushed the Cleveland Indians into the playoffs with one swing and strengthened his case for the AL MVP award. Ramírez hit a three-run homer with two outs in the 10th inning, giving Cleveland a 5-3 win over the Chicago White Sox that clinched a postseason berth Tuesday night. Ramírez’s drive to right off José Ruiz scored César Hernández and Francisco Lindor, setting off a wild celebration at home plate as the Indians reached the postseason for the fourth time in five years. Lindor had pulled Cleveland within one on a two-out double that plated Roberto Perez, who began the inning on second base. After Matt Foster (5-1) walked Hernández, Ruiz entered and gave up the game-ending drive. BRAVES 11, MARLINS 1 ATLANTA (AP) — Bryse Wilson pitched five scoreless innings, Marcell Ozuna drove in five runs with four hits that included two homers and Atlanta clinched its third straight NL East title.
