Rondon underwent surgery Thursday to repair a fractured elbow and will be sidelined for the next 3-to-4 months, Bill Center of MLB.com reports.
Rondon made his mark as a prospect of note to begin the season at High-A Lake Elsinore, where he batted .300/.360/.414 with a 17-for-23 success rate on the bases before earning a promotion to Double-A San Antonio. He had struggled mightily through his first 28 games in the Texas League to the tune of a .219 on-base percentage in 107 plate appearances, and now the fractured elbow he suffered while sliding will prevent him from submitting any sort of second-half rebound. The Padres aren't ruling out a return to action for Rondon during winter ball, but he'll likely have to avoid any setbacks in his recovery in order for that to materialize.

Rondon homered twice and drove in five runs as part of a four-hit game Saturday for High-A Lake Elsinore.
One of the pieces the Padres received from the Angels in last year's Huston Street trade, Rondon isn't lighting it up at Lake Elsinore with a roughly league-average .271/.325/.398 batting line, but he soon may warrant a promotion to Double-A San Antonio in any event. Rondon doesn't typically showcase much pop, as the homers were just his second and third of the season, but he's been active on the basepaths with 11 steals in 15 attempts. At this stage his development, Rondon looks bound for a utility role once he reaches the majors, but at 21 years old, his projection is far from complete.
