The Milwaukee Brewers have reportedly signed relief pitcher Alex Claudio to a minor-league deal, per a tweet from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Todd Rosiak on Tuesday. Claudio has pitched to a 3.60 ERA and a 3.79 FIP in 347 2/3 career innings at the major-league level. He appeared in three games for the New York Mets during the 2022 season, allowing a hit and two walks in 3 1/3 innings of work while striking out a pair of batters. The veteran will provide the Brewers with some additional bullpen depth heading into next season.

Claudio was placed on the 60-day DL on Tuesday with a left groin strain.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster and essentially ends Claudio's 2015 season.

Claudio was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday.

Claudio has spent three separate stints with the Rangers this season, posting a 2.87 ERA across 15.2 innings. He'll return to Round Rock, where he's posted a 2.17 ERA with a 25:4 K:BB in 29.0 innings.

Claudio was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Claudio will return to the Rangers for his third big league stint of the season. In 15.2 cumulative MLB innings, Claudio has allowed 12 hits and five earned runs (2.87 ERA) while putting up a 13:6 K:BB ratio.

While the 23-year-old lefty has fared well in 18 appearances with the big club so far this season (2.87 ERA, 1.15), the team needed to add some outfield depth to the roster and Claudio was the casualty. He figures to return shortly after the 10-day window for optioned players to remain in the minors is up, though he could return even sooner if the team places a player on the DL.

Claudio was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock on Friday.

He will take the pitching staff spot vacated by Anthony Ranaudo, who was optioned to Round Rock as a corresponding move. Claudio will be used in mid-to-low leverage situations out of the Rangers' bullpen.

Claudio's ability to pitch frequently will strengthen his bid to earn the primary left-handed relief role out of the bullpen to begin the season and he's done nothing to hurt his chances thus far.

A 27th-round pick in 2010, Claudio has made just two appearances at the Triple-A level but will make the jump to the majors with Yu Darvish (elbow) hitting the DL. In 27 minor league outings this season, Claudio has posted a 1.66 ERA and 0.95 WHIP, though 17 of those appearances came with High-A Myrtle Beach. The lefty will work in low-leverage relief for the time being.
