Mon Mar 1819:35Carlos Rodon Looks Excellent On Monday
New York Yankees starting pitcher Carlos Rodon looked sharp throughout Monday's outing against the Philadelphia Phillies. The left-hander tossed 5 2/3 scoreless innings while striking out five batters as well on Monday. He currently sits at a 2.93 ERA this spring with some better outings as of late. The biggest thing for Rodon is going to be staying healthy and getting on the mound every fifth day. There is certainly some risk with taking Rodon is fantasy drafts, but he could be worth it.

Wed Mar 615:37Carlos Rodon Has Rough Spring Outing Wednesday
In his second Grapefruit League start on Wednesday against the Tampa Bay Rays, New York Yankees left-hander Carlos Rodon didn't look very good, allowing three earned runs on five hits (two home runs allowed) while walking one and striking out one in three-plus innings. The 31-year-old southpaw was pumping high-90s heaters early in camp and had five strikeouts in his first spring outing, but Wednesday's performance looked more like his frustrating 2023 season in the Bronx in which he was mostly injured. "I'm trying to build it back up," Rodon said after his 60-pitch outing on Wednesday. A lighter Rodon is mixing in changeups, cutters, and curves into his fastball/slider combination. The early returns aren't exactly exciting, but Rodon's strikeout upside still makes him worth a flier as rotation depth in mixed fantasy leagues.

Fri Mar 115:02Carlos Rodon Yields Four Homers In Batting Practice Friday
New York Yankees left-hander Carlos Rodon surrendered four home runs during a live batting practice session against minor-league hitters on Friday. The 31-year-old allowed just one earned run with five strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings in his spring debut against the Blue Jays, so there's no reason for panic at this time. However, it's worth noting that he once again dealt with injuries in the 2023 season that limited him to just 14 starts while he posted a 6.85 ERA and dealt with big-time homer issues by way of a 2.10 HR/9 clip in that time. ATC projects a bounce-back season for the lefty as they peg him at a 4.08 ERA and a healthy 27.5% K% across 25 starts. While those numbers would serve fantasy managers well, he once again carries notable risk as part of his draft stock.

Mon Feb 2612:34Carlos Rodon Debuts A New Cutter
New York Yankees left-hander Carlos Rodon debuted a new cutter during his Grapefruit League outing on Sunday. Rodon now features a cutter, fastball, changeup, slider and a curveball in his repertoire. In addition to adding a new pitch, the 31-year-old southpaw has reportedly been touching the high-90s with his heater during live batting practice sessions in camp this year as he looks to bounce back from a disappointing first season in the Bronx in 2023. We won't really know how effective Rodon's cutter will be in game settings in the regular season for a while, but it's an interesting footnote for a pitcher that could be a steal in fantasy drafts if he can stay healthy in 2024. The two-time All-Star only made 14 starts for the Yanks last year and struggled to a 6.85 ERA and 1.45 WHIP with 64 K's in 64 1/3 innings.

Thu Feb 1517:01Optimism Surrounding Carlos Rodon
There is internal optimism from the New York Yankees about left-hander Carlos Rodon after he threw a live batting practice session on Tuesday, with his fastball sitting in the mid-90s, and touching 97 mph. Last spring, Rodon featured a 90-92 mph fastball in early live sessions. He's trying to bounce back from a disastrous first season in the Bronx in 2023 in which he had a 6.85 ERA in just 61 1/3 innings due to injuries. The 31-year-old southpaw reported to camp early and is now leaner. Rodon signed a massive six-year, $162 million deal to come to New York last year, but he missed most of the season due to injury. His chronic back issue is the biggest concern, but if Rodon can manage to stay healthy in 2024, he should be a huge payoff for fantasy managers willing to take the risk.

Sat Sep 30 202301:09Carlos Rodon Limps Into Offseason After Disastrous Finale
New York Yankees starting pitcher Carlos Rodon was bombarded for eight runs before recording a single out in Friday's 12-5 loss to the Kansas City Royals. Talk about an ugly curtain call on a miserable Yankees debut season for the prized free-agent acquisition. Rodon's hideous evening saw him get shelled for four singles, one double, one home run, and two walks before Matt Bowman mercifully relieved him. The southpaw hopes to quickly forget 2023 after debuting about halfway through the campaign due to a forearm strain and scuffling to a ghastly 6.85 ERA and 1.45 WHIP with 15 homers (64 1/3 innings), which is three greater than he allowed a year ago in 17 fewer starts. Rodon will be searching for answers this offseason, considering his velocity was mostly on par with last season's figure despite far inferior results.

Thu Sep 7 202318:21Carlos Rodon Aims To Build On Encouraging Run
The New York Yankees, winners of eight out of their last nine games, look to complete consecutive series sweeps when starting pitcher Carlos Rodon takes the bump for Thursday's start versus the Detroit Tigers. While it's been a mostly poor year for the 30-year-old, he has shown signs of life lately with a 2.87 ERA (5.37 FIP) with 12 strikeouts in his last three starts (15.2 innings pitched) off the second injured list stint of his 2023. Rodon has declawed the Tigers for a 1.86 ERA and 41 punchouts in 29 IP (five starts) against Detroit since 2021. It's a short Thursday slate as usual, and the hard-throwing southpaw represents a tempting DFS pivot off the pricier SP options considering the matchup.

Fri Aug 18 202317:10Carlos Rodon To Start On Tuesday
New York Yankees left-hander Carlos Rodon (hamstring) is scheduled to return from the 15-day injured list to start on Tuesday against the Washington Nationals, according to manager Aaron Boone. Right-hander Luis Severino will go on Wednesday. Rodon will return from a minor left-hamstring strain after throwing a five-inning simulated game on Wednesday. The 30-year-old southpaw has been a big fantasy bust in 2023 in his first year in the Bronx, as he's made only six starts due to injuries and sports an elevated 7.33 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 25 strikeouts in 27 innings pitched. Still, he should remain rostered in all fantasy leagues and has a nice matchup upcoming in his first start back next week.

Thu Aug 17 202318:57Carlos Rodon On Track For Return Tuesday
New York Yankees starting pitcher Carlos Rodon (hamstring) is expected to return to the rotation on Tuesday versus the Washington Nationals. The 30-year-old tossed a five-inning simulated game on Wednesday and the Yankees came away pleased with the results. As long as Rodon doesn't suffer any setbacks with his left hamstring, the southpaw should be activated from the 15-day injured when first eligible on Aug. 22. New York's prized free-agent acquisition missed the season's initial three months with forearm and back issues, but he'll have a chance to salvage what's been a lost season thus far. Rodon would come back to a 7.33 ERA (7.37 FIP), 1.52 WHIP, and 25:18 K:BB in 27 innings over six starts this year.

Sun Aug 13 202312:50Sim Game Next On Tap For Carlos Rodon
New York Yankees left-hander Carlos Rodon (hamstring) had a two-up bullpen session that went well on Saturday, according to manager Aaron Boone. Rodon will now head to Tampa from Miami and will throw a simulated game next week. Boone is hoping to get Rodon back from the injured list as soon as he's eligible to return on Aug. 22. Despite the 30-year-old southpaw's disappointing first season in the Bronx, he needs to remain stashed in all fantasy leagues for the stretch run. He got a late start in 2023 due to forearm and back injuries and has made a total of six starts in pinstripes so far. In those six starts, Rodon hasn't been good, posting a 7.33 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 25 strikeouts in 27 innings pitched.

Thu Aug 10 202319:45Carlos Rodon Throws On Flat Ground Wednesday
New York Yankees left-hander Carlos Rodon (hamstring) was able to throw on flat ground on Wednesday in Chicago, just as the Yankees hoped he'd be able to do after landing on the injured list on Monday with a low-grade left-hamstring strain. Rodon wanted to continue pitching through the leg injury, but the Yankees made the final decision to put him on the shelf. The good news is the 30-year-old southpaw could have a short stay on the IL and be able to rejoin the rotation later this month. Rodon has been a pretty big fantasy bust after signing a huge deal with the Yanks over the winter. He's made just six starts due to back and forearm injuries and has a 7.33 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 25 strikeouts in 27 innings.

Tue Aug 8 202312:20Carlos Rodon To Continue Throwing While On Injured List
New York Yankees left-hander Carlos Rodon (hamstring) landed on the injured list on Monday for the second time this year with a "low-grade" left hamstring strain, according to manager Aaron Boone. Rodon wanted to pitch through the injury, but the Yankees made the final call to put him on the IL. However, he will continue throwing off flat ground and could potentially only miss the minimum of 15 days. Rodon's season was delayed due to a forearm strain and back discomfort after he signed a six-year, $162 million deal in free agency. The 30-year-old southpaw didn't make his season debut until July 7, and he has a poor 7.33 ERA with 25 K's and 18 walks in his six starts this year. Needless to say, Rodon has been a big fantasy bust in his first year in the Bronx. Randy Vasquez will likely fill in for Rodon in the rotation while he's out.

Mon Aug 7 202317:13Carlos Rodon Placed On 15-Day Injured List
The New York Yankees placed left-hander Carlos Rodon (hamstring) on the 15-day injured list on Monday with a left-hamstring strain and reinstated right-hander Jonathan Loaisiga (elbow) from the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move. The team also recalled left-hander Nick Ramirez from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and designated right-hander Deivi Garcia for assignment in a corresponding move. Rodon left his start early on Sunday against the Houston Astros in the third inning and will now have to miss at least two weeks. The 30-year-old southpaw didn't make his Yankees debut until July 7 due to forearm and back injuries, and now he finds himself on the IL for the second time in 2023. Rodon hasn't been very good in his six starts, either, posting a 7.33 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 25 strikeouts in 27 innings.

Sun Aug 6 202319:28Carlos Rodon To Undergo MRI
New York Yankees starting pitcher Carlos Rodon (hamstring) is set to undergo an MRI following his early departure from Sunday's start. The left-hander wasn't even able to pitch a full three innings before exiting due to a left hamstring issue. This is obviously discouraging considering this was only his sixth start of the season. There's a good chance Rodon is placed on the injured list, but fantasy managers can wait until the MRI results are revealed. Hopefully, it's only a minor issue for the southpaw who has missed most of the season due to injury.

Sun Aug 6 202311:28Carlos Rodon Looks For Consistency Versus Astros
New York Yankees starting pitcher Carlos Rodon takes the mound for Sunday's start versus the Houston Astros. It's been a rough start for New York's prized free-agent acquisition, who owns a 6.29 ERA and 1.48 WHIP over 24.1 innings since being activated off the 60-day injured list on July 7 due to a left forearm strain. Rodon doesn't seem to be in the best spot on Sunday for a rebound, but he has actually thrown for at least six innings while giving up two runs or fewer in each of his seven career starts against Houston. It amounts to a career 1.55 ERA in 46.1 frames opposing the Astros since 2015. Season-long fantasy managers might be weary of starting the southpaw for this one, but at least Rodon has thoroughly flourished vs. the Stros in the past.

Wed Aug 2 202300:43Carlos Rodon Rocked Again In Tuesday's Loss
New York Yankees starting pitcher Carlos Rodon took another loss in Tuesday's 5-2 game against the Rays. Rodon pitched just four innings, allowing four runs on four hits (including two home runs) and four walks with five strikeouts. The 30-year-old has made five starts since returning from the injured list and is now 1-4 with a 6.29 ERA, 7.40 K/9 rate, and 5.92 BB/9 rate. Fantasy managers know how useful he has been in the past, but at this point, they should probably not start him until he can turn things around. This may be difficult in his next scheduled start against the Astros.

Fri Jul 7 202317:19Carlos Rodon Activated, Nestor Cortes Moved To 60-Day IL
The New York Yankees officially activated left-hander Carlos Rodon (back) from the 60-day injured list on Friday and transferred left-hander Nestor Cortes (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move. Rodon will make his long-awaited debut for the Yankees on Friday against the visiting Chicago Cubs. An All-Star the last two years with the San Francisco Giants, Rodon is a fantasy ace when healthy and could push fantasy squads over the top in the second half of the season if he can stay on the field. Cortes is making progress from a left-shoulder injury, but fantasy managers won't be getting him back until Aug. 3 now. The 28-year-old southpaw will face live hitters this weekend and may not be far from a minor-league rehab assignment.

Sun Jul 2 202313:38Carlos Rodon Set To Make Debut On July 7
New York Yankees starting pitcher Carlos Rodon (back) is set to make his season debut on July 7 against the Chicago Cubs. Rodon made another rehab start on Saturday and performed well, per manager Aaron Boone. The 30-year-old lefty has been out all season with a forearm and back issues but it looks like he's ready to get one start in before the All-Star break. Rodon was excellent in 2022, putting up a sparkling 2.88 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 237:52 K/BB ratio over 178 innings (31 starts) with the San Francisco Giants. Fantasy managers will need to clear up a spot on their rosters for Rodon's long-awaited activation.

Sat Jul 1 202321:54Carlos Rodon Sharp In Rehab Outing
New York Yankees left-hander Carlos Rodon (back) allowed one hit while striking out eight over 3 2/3 scoreless innings in a rehab start with High-A Hudson Valley on Saturday. He threw 58 pitches, landing 38 pitches for strikes. The 30-year-old made his final rehab appearance and will make his Yankees debut on July 7 against the Cubs. Rodon has been sidelined all season with a back/forearm injury and is expected to be reinstated from the injured list. Rodon signed a six-year, $162 million deal with the Yankees this offseason and could be a fantasy ace for the second half of the season if he can avoid the injured list.

Wed Jun 28 202312:11Carlos Rodon Likely To Make Final Rehab Start Saturday
New York Yankees left-hander Carlos Rodon (back) is set to make his third and likely final minor-league rehab start on Saturday with an affiliate to be determined. If the outing goes according to plan, Rodon would be in line to make his Yankees and season debut on July 7 in the Bronx against the Chicago Cubs. The 30-year-old southpaw missed the start of the season due to a left-forearm injury and then dealt with back issues, but he's looked great in two starts for Double-A Somerset, allowing one run on two hits while walking one and striking out nine in seven innings pitched. Rodon was an All-Star the previous two seasons with the San Francisco Giants and will once again have ace potential for fantasy managers the rest of the season if he can stay healthy.
