Tue Jan 1614:01Kendall Graveman To Miss All Of 2024
Houston Astros relief pitcher Kendall Graveman (shoulder) underwent right-shoulder surgery last week and will be forced to miss all of the 2024 season, according to the team. It's unclear what specific surgery Graveman had on his shoulder, but he said he had progressed to throwing off flat ground this offseason when the discomfort in his shoulder returned. For an already-depleted Astros bullpen, this is a big loss heading into spring training. The 33-year-old will enter free agency after the 2024 season. He started 2022 with the Chicago White Sox before being traded to the Astros. Overall, Graveman went 5-6 with 3.12 ERA (4.88 FIP), 1.31 WHIP, eight saves, 36 walks and 66 strikeouts in 66 1/3 relief innings. Graveman's injury will put more pressure on late-inning setup men Bryan Abreu and Rafael Montero.

Sat Oct 14 202313:10Kendall Graveman Will Remain Out For The ALCS
Houston Astros relief pitcher Kendall Graveman (shoulder) will be out for the ALCS, according to manager Dusty Baker. The Astros' skipper told reporters on Saturday that the veteran reliever is still dealing with the shoulder issue that kept him off the ALDS roster and that his condition hasn't improved. Depending on how the next week goes, and if the Astros can advance to the World Series, Graveman has a chance to pitch this postseason but it's looking unlikely at the moment. The 32-year-old put up a 2.42 ERA, 1.522 WHIP, and 24:16 K/BB ratio over 22 1/3 innings with the Astros after coming over from the White Sox at the trade deadline. His absence is a big one as he was one of the Astros' more reliable high-leverage relievers down the stretch.

Wed Oct 11 202319:49Kendall Graveman Plays Catch On Wednesday
Houston Astros relief pitcher Kendall Graveman (shoulder) was able to play catch ahead of Wednesday's Game 4 against the Minnesota Twins. The right-hander was held off the roster for this series due to a lingering shoulder issue. It sounds like Graveman is making progress and will hopefully be available for the ALCS, assuming the Astros advance. Graveman holds a 3.12 ERA with 66 strikeouts over 66.1 regular-season innings this season.

Sat Oct 7 202314:38Kendall Graveman Left Off The ALDS Roster With A Shoulder Issue
Houston Astros relief pitcher Kendall Graveman (shoulder) has been left off the ALDS roster due to right shoulder discomfort. This does not bode well for the Astros as Graveman has been one of their most reliable bullpen arms down the stretch. The severity of his should strain is not known so it's unclear if he has a chance to pitch later on in the postseason, if the Astros advance. The 32-year-old finished the regular season with a 3.12 ERA, 1.312 WHIP, and 66:36 K/BB ratio over 66 1/3 innings between the White Sox and the Astros. J.P. France and rookie Hunter Brown will do their best to help shore up the Houston bullpen against the Twins in the ALDS.

Wed Aug 30 202320:09Kendall Graveman Dealing With Back Discomfort
Updating a previous report, Houston Astros relief pitcher Kendall Graveman (back) left his appearance on Wednesday against the Boston Red Sox with lower-back discomfort and he'll be evaluated in Houston on Thursday. Graveman picked up his 11th hold of the season and allowed a hit and a walk in just two-thirds of an inning before departing the mound. The Astros have a day off on Thursday, but it remains to be seen if the 32-year-old reliever will be available for a weekend series against the visiting New York Yankees. Graveman is still valuable in deep holds leagues, but he lost a lot of his fantasy appeal when he was traded to Houston, where he's been serving as a late-inning setup man instead of a closer like he was for the Chicago White Sox earlier in the year.

Wed Aug 30 202318:47Kendall Graveman Exits Early On Wednesday
Houston Astros relief pitcher Kendall Graveman (undisclosed) was forced to exit early during Wednesday's game against the Boston Red Sox. The right-hander left with a trainer after displaying some discomfort on the mound. This is obviously concerning considering Graveman is one of the more important pieces to the Astros' bullpen. The hope is that this is only a minor injury. The team should give an update on Graveman's status shortly.

Fri Jul 28 202316:01Astros Acquire Kendall Graveman From White Sox
The Houston Astros are in agreement on a deal with the Chicago White Sox on Friday that will send right-handed reliever Kendall Graveman to the Astros, according to sources. It's unclear what the Astros are sending the White Sox in return. Graveman, who had been serving as Chicago's closer with Liam Hendriks (elbow) on the injured list, will return to Houston after spending part of the 2021 season with the team. The 32-year-old has eight saves on the year and a decent 3.48 ERA and 42 strikeouts in 44 innings pitched in 2023, but he'll be losing fantasy value with the move into a setup role in Houston in front of closer Ryan Pressly. Back in Chicago, Keynan Middleton is likely to see save chances now, at least until Hendriks returns from the IL.

Sun Jul 23 202321:49Kendall Graveman Can't Close Out Twins
On Sunday, White Sox relief pitcher Kendall Graveman had a tough outing giving up three runs in the ninth inning, resulting in a blown save against the Twins. Graveman has now faltered in four save situations, having given up 12 runs, with 10 of them being earned, in just 15 1/3 innings since June 11. Chicago doesn't have a standout closer and Graveman continues to get opportunities when games are on the line. However, Liam Hendriks could be making his return soon, which may offer some relief.

Mon Jun 12 202301:12Kendall Graveman Can't Close Out Marlins
Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Kendall Graveman blew the save and took the loss in a 6-5 defeat against the Miami Marlins. Graveman was called upon in the ninth to protect a two-run lead, but allowed three runs (two earned) on two hits and a walk. It wasn't pretty at all, but Graveman has been very good since the start of May and has earned his shot at the closer role while Liam Hendriks is on the IL. He is still worthy of an add in most leagues where saves matter.

Fri Jun 9 202301:39Kendall Graveman Closes Out Yankees Thursday
Chicago White Sox reliever Kendall Graveman picked up his sixth save of the season on Thursday in a 6-5 win over the New York Yankees. In the first half of their double-header, the White Sox chose to go with Graveman in the ninth over Liam Hendriks. It is an interesting decision given that Hendriks got the last save and should have been available, but Graveman has pitched well this year and is now 6-for-6 in save chances. Fantasy managers who need saves should keep tabs on the back end of the White Sox bullpen, as Graveman could be a decent option if he continues getting save opportunities.

Sat Jun 3 202300:04Kendall Graveman Collects Fifth Save Friday
Chicago White Sox pitcherKendall Gravemandelivered a flawless inning, securing his fifth save of the season in a 3-0 victory over the Tigers Friday. The right-hander required only 15 pitches to retire the opposing batters in consecutive order, recording a crucial strikeout. Graveman has consistently proven himself a dependable asset in the White Sox bullpen throughout the season. It was Chicago's first save chance since primary closer Liam Hendriks (illness) made his season debut on Monday. Graveman could continue to see save opportunities while the White Sox ease Hendriks back into the closer role. In 24 outings, Graveman is a perfect 5-for-5 in save chances, owning a solid 2.66 ERA and a 0.93 WHIP.

Wed May 24 202300:56Kendall Graveman Earns Fourth Save Of Season Tuesday
Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Kendall Graveman picked up his fourth save of the season in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Guardians. Graveman came in to pitch the bottom of the ninth up by two. He allowed a leadoff walk, induced a double play, allowed a single, and ended the game on a strikeout. The veteran has emerged as the primary candidate for save opportunities for the Sox lately and has converted all of his save opportunities with a 3.10 ERA, 8.85 K/9 rate, and 3.98 BB/9 rate. Liam Hendriks is in the process of getting ready to return to the team and should take over the closer's role when ready, but Graveman appears to be a useful fantasy option until that happens.

Wed May 10 202301:00Kendall Graveman Earns First Save Of Season Tuesday
Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Kendall Graveman notched his first save of the season in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Royals. Graveman closed things out with a 1-2-3 ninth inning on a fly-out and two pop-outs. It was the veteran's first save opportunity of the season. Reynaldo Lopez has seen the majority of opportunities to this point, but he pitched the eighth inning in this one. The situation is rather moot at this point, as closer Liam Hendriks is currently in a rehab assignment after battling non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and could return to the team as early as this week.

Sun Jun 26 202217:55Kendall Graveman Records Third Save
Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Kendall Graveman was able to escape during Sunday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. First baseman Jose Abreu made two errors, which hurt, but luckily the White Sox had a three-run lead. Graveman was able to escape with his third save of the season. This was his first save since Liam Hendriks (forearm) went on the injured list. Fantasy managers should be able to trust Graveman in the closer role while Hendriks is sidelined.

Wed Jun 15 202212:26Kendall Graveman To Serve As Closer Wednesday
Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Joe Kelly isn't available to pitch on back-to-back days yet, so reliever Kendall Graveman will serve as the team's closer on Wednesday against the Detroit Tigers if a save situation arises. Liam Hendriks (forearm) went on the injured list on Tuesday and Kelly returned from the IL to strike out two over a scoreless inning of work. Prior to going unused on Tuesday, Graveman had appeared in three of the last four days. Kelly could get some save chances here and there with Hendriks out, so this looks like a committee approach between Graveman and Kelly for the time being. Graveman, who has 12 saves in his career, has a 2.51 ERA and 1.33 WHIP with two saves and 27 strikeouts in 28 2/3 innings pitched this year.

Wed May 11 202209:04Kendall Graveman Converts His Second Save On Tuesday
Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Kendall Graveman closed out the team's 4-1 victory over the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday to earn his second save of the year. He pitched a scoreless ninth inning, but he did allow one hit and a walk before putting a cap on the night. The team's primary closer, Liam Hendriks, had pitched in three of the team's previous four games, so the Sox likely wanted to give him the day off on Tuesday. Graveman is now 2-for-3 in save opportunities on the year and he has a 1.76 ERA and 1.17 WHIP. He'd likely be the next man up for saves in Chicago if Hendriks were forced to miss time.

Tue Nov 30 202113:44Kendall Graveman Officially Signs With White Sox
The Chicago White Sox and relief pitcher Kendall Graveman officially agreed on a three-year, $24 million deal on Tuesday. Graveman will make $8 million in all three seasons and will also have incentives for awards. The 30-year-old right-hander combined to go 5-1 with a sparkling 1.77 ERA, 61 strikeouts, a .180 opponent's average, 0.98 WHIP, 10 saves and 11 holds in 53 appearances for the Seattle Mariners and Houston Astros in 2021. He was among the American League relief leaders in ERA (third), opponent's OPS (.536), opponent's average (fifth), ground-ball percentage (12th) and WHIP (12th). He also had a 1.64 ERA with two holds and 11 strikeouts for Houston in the playoffs. Graveman will still have fantasy value for his strikeouts and in holds leagues, but he's unlikely to see many save chances with both Liam Hendriks and Craig Kimbrel handling the late innings.
