Mon Feb 1218:45Amir Garrett Agrees To Minors Deal With Giants
Free-agent reliever Amir Garrett agreed to a minor-league deal with the San Francisco Giants on Monday, according to sources. The deal includes an invitation to major-league spring training and would pay him $1.35 million if he's in the majors. The 31-year-old left-hander spent last season with the Kansas City Royals, where he posted a 3.33 ERA (5.56 FIP) and 1.73 WHIP with 20 walks and 28 strikeouts in 24 1/3 relief innings. Garrett does have an above-average 26.4 percent career strikeout rate in 325 1/3 career innings at the major-league level, but it's also come with an underwhelming 4.95 ERA (4.92 FIP) and 1.44 WHIP with eight saves over seven seasons with the Royals and Cincinnati Reds. He won't be on the fantasy radar in 2024, even if he makes San Fran's Opening Day roster.

Tue Jul 25 202312:05Amir Garrett Signs Minor-League Deal With Guardians
The Cleveland Guardians signed free-agent left-hander Amir Garrett to a minor-league deal on Monday. The Kansas City Royals cut Garrett earlier this month after he allowed 11 runs (nine earned) on 22 hits while walking 20 and striking out 28 in 24 1/3 innings over 27 relief appearances for them. The 31-year-old southpaw will likely begin with Triple-A Columbus, but it remains to be seen if he'll get another shot in the big leagues in 2023 in Cleveland. Garrett spent his first five big-league seasons with the Cincinnati Reds before pitching for the Royals the last two seasons. He has a 4.95 ERA (4.92 FIP), 1.44 WHIP, eight saves and a 26.4 percent strikeout rate in 325 1/3 career innings in the majors.

Mon Jun 12 202321:43Amir Garrett Throws Bullpen On Monday
Kansas City Royals left-hander Amir Garrett (elbow) threw a bullpen session on Monday and is slated to throw live batting practice on June 15. Garrett has been on the injured list retroactive to May 29 with pain in his throwing elbow. The veteran lefty has made 23 appearances for the Royals in 2023, posting a 3.00 ERA and 24 strikeouts over 21 innings of work. Garrett is trending towards a return in mid-to-late July and will provide bullpen depth for the Royals once he's back.

Fri Jan 13 202318:34Amir Garrett Avoids Arbitration With Royals
The Kansas City Royals and relief pitcher Amir Garrett avoided salary arbitration on Friday by agreeing to a one-year, $2.65 million deal. Garrett was better in 2022 than he was in his final season in Cincinnati in 2021, but he still wasn't of much use to fantasy managers in his first year with the Royals. He finished with a 4.96 ERA (3.40 FIP), 1.32 WHIP, no saves and a 25 percent strikeout rate in 45 1/3 relief innings covering 60 appearances. Garrett is tough on left-handed hitters but hasn't fared too well otherwise. He'll carry little fantasy appeal in deep holds leagues for a rebuilding Royals team as a setup man in front of closer Scott Barlow.

Mon Aug 15 202219:22Amir Garrett Receives Three-Game Suspension
Kansas City Royals left-handed reliever Amir Garrett was handed a three-game suspension and a fine after an incident with fans in the stands in Chicago earlier this month. Garrett threw a drink on a fan on Aug. 2, but he will appeal the suspension, so he will be available to pitch on Monday against the Minnesota Twins. The 30-year-old southpaw hasn't been on the fantasy radar this year in Kansas City, as he has a 4.60 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 34 strikeouts in 31 1/3 innings pitched in a non-closer role for the Royals.

Wed Jun 8 202211:56Amir Garrett To Begin Rehab Assignment On Wednesday
Kansas City Royals relief pitcher Amir Garrett will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday. The 30-year-old left-hander has been on the COVID-19 injured list since late May. He's struggled thus far in his first season in a Royals jersey. Over 16 appearances, he has a 4.61 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP. His velocity has been down a bit from last season. In 2021, he averaged 85.2 mph on his slider. This year, he's averaging 84.1 mph on the pitch. Meanwhile, the average velocity on his four-seamer is down from 94.8 mph in 2021 to 93.7 mph this year.

Sun Jun 5 202213:45Amir Garrett Will Require A Rehab Assignment
Kansas City Royals reliever Amir Garrett will likely require a rehab assignment before rejoining the team. Garrett was placed on the COVID-19 injured list in late May and has been participating in pregame workouts during the Royals most recent homestand, but manager Mike Matheny told reporters that a rehab assignment would need to happen before he could rejoin the team. Garrett has a pedestrian 4.61 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 16:11 K:BB across 13 2/3 innings this year.

Thu May 26 202216:12Royals Place Amir Garrett, Kyle Isbel On Injured List
The Kansas City Royals placed relief pitcher Amir Garrett and outfielder Kyle Isbel on the injured list on Thursday. No injury designation was given, suggesting they have landed on the COVID-19 injured list. Right-handed pitcher Dylan Coleman and outfielder Brewer Hicklen were recalled from Triple-A in corresponding moves. Garrett has had a rocky first season with the Royals so far, pitching to a 4.61 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP over 16 appearances. Isbel, meanwhile is slashing .276/.295/.345 over 24 games with four doubles, two stolen bases and zero home runs.

Wed Mar 16 202214:14Royals Trade For Amir Garrett Wednesday
The Kansas City Royals acquired left-handed reliever Amir Garrett from the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday in exchange for left-hander Mike Minor and cash. Garrett had seven saves for the Reds in 2021, but he also had a rough 6.04 ERA and 1.57 WHIP while striking out 61 and walking 29 in 47 2/3 innings over 63 relief appearances. The 29-year-old is an upside arm out of the bullpen, but until he can put it all together consistently, he won't have a ton of fantasy appeal. With that said, in Kansas City's bullpen -- Scott Barlow is currently projected as the closer -- Garrett should have more opportunities in high-leverage, late-inning spots. And the southpaw's 26.8% strikeout rate could come in handy in deeper leagues.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Shohei Ohtani hit his major league-leading 31st homer in the third, and Juan Lagares ended it with a two-run double in the ninth inning of the Los Angeles Angels’ 6-5 comeback victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday. Cedric Mullins hit a tiebreaking homer for Baltimore in the ninth in his first game after making his first All-Star team, but the Angels jumped all over Cole Sulser (2-1) without making an out in the bottom half. After Los Angeles loaded the bases on a walk and two short singles, Lagares doubled to the gap in right-center, extending the Angels’ winning streak to five games. Raisel Iglesias (6-3) got the win. Ohtani tied the MLB record for the most homers in a season by a Japanese-born player when he blasted a 459-foot solo shot off Thomas Eshelman to straightaway center. It was his 14th homer in 17 games overall. Less than an hour later, Ohtani became the first player in major league history to be picked for an All-Star Game as both a hitter and... [More]

NEW YORK (AP) — Mets ace Jacob deGrom gave up two runs for the first time this season and New York rallied after he exited, beating the Philadelphia Phillies 4-3 Saturday on Michael Conforto’s sacrifice fly in the ninth inning. DeGrom’s bid to set the Mets record for the longest scoreless-inning streak fell just short. His run ended at 31 innings on rookie Nick Maton’s RBI single in the second — R.A. Dickey set the team shutout mark of 32 2/3 innings in 2012. DeGrom allowed three hits in six innings, striking out five and walking one while throwing 88 pitches, his most since tossing 93 against Boston on April 28 in a 1-0 loss.
