RHP Jon Moscot's Tommy John surgery, which took place Monday, came as a surprise to everyone involved. "(Moscot's injury) wasn't defined as an ulnar collateral injury immediately," manager Bryan Price said. "There were some bone spurs that are quite common. He went in for treatment and when things didn't progress, they verified he had some issues with the UCL and took care of that as well." Price said Moscot could be out through next season but declined to specify a specific timeline. Moscot had been on Triple-A Louisville's disabled list since July 5. Moscot went 0-3 with an 8.02 ERA in five starts during two stints with the Reds.

RHP Jon Moscot was considered for a bullpen role but instead was optioned to Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday. "He was getting hit hard, and that doesn't work any better in the bullpen than it does as a starter," said manager Bryan Price. Moscot needed a good performance on Sunday to retain his spot in a rotation, but after being staked to a 5-0 lead, Moscot allowed five earned runs in 3 2/3 innings.

RHP Jon Moscot needed a good performance on Sunday to retain his spot in a rotation which soon will get a boost with the return of right-hander Anthony DeSclafani. Moscot was staked to an early 5-0 lead, but couldn't take advantage, allowing five earned runs in 3 2/3 innings. "I have to do a better job at limiting the damage, Moscot said. "It has nothing to do with (DeSclafani) coming back. I'm glad he's coming back. He's one of my best friends on the team. I have to prove that I belong."
