Tue Oct 31 202300:25Joe Mantiply To Start For Arizona In Game 4 Of World Series
Arizona Diamondbacks left-hander Joe Mantiply will get the "start" for Game 4 of the World Series on Tuesday against the visiting Texas Rangers. He'll be opposed by left-hander Andrew Heaney. Mantiply will merely be serving as the opener in what is expected to be a bullpen game for the Diamondbacks as they look to even the series back up at two games apiece. The 32-year-old southpaw struck out one in a scoreless inning of work in Game 1 of the World Series on Friday. He has allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits while walking three and striking out five in 6 1/3 relief innings in this year's postseason. Right-hander Ryne Nelson is the best bet to see the bulk of innings in relief for the Snakes on Tuesday evening.

Thu Oct 19 202322:55Joe Mantiply To Start For Arizona In Game 4
Arizona Diamondbacks left-hander Joe Mantiply will make the start in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series on Friday against the visiting Philadelphia Phillies in what will be a bullpen game for the D-backs staff. Mantiply will get another shot at the Phillies after allowing three earned runs on three hits while walking two in just one-third of an inning in the Game 2 loss in Philadelphia on Tuesday. In his first three career playoff outings this year, Mantiply threw 2.2 scoreless innings of relief with one walk and two strikeouts. The 32-year-old southpaw should not be started in DFS, as he's likely to go an inning or two on Friday, at the most. Right-hander Ryne Nelson could pitch the bulk of the innings in this "bullpen" game.

Mon Aug 21 202314:12Joe Mantiply Serving As Opener Monday
Arizona Diamondbacks left-hander Joe Mantiply will serve as the team's opener on Monday against the Texas Rangers instead of right-hander Slade Cecconi. Mantiply, who was a first-time All-Star with the D-backs last year, isn't likely to go more than a couple innings on Monday in a tough matchup. In his 20 appearances (one start) this year, he's recorded a 6.65 ERA (4.51 FIP), 1.15 WHIP, three walks and 17 strikeouts in 21 2/3 innings of work. His lone start in 2023 came on Aug. 15 against the Colorado Rockies, when he went just one scoreless inning. Cecconi is likely to work as the bulk reliever behind Mantiply in this one, but neither pitchers are recommended DFS streamers on Monday.

Tue Aug 1 202315:24Diamondbacks Fielding Offers For Andrew Chafin, Joe Mantiply
The Arizona Diamondbacks have fielded offers from opposing teams for left-handed pitchers Andrew Chafin and Joe Mantiply, per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. Chagin has made 43 relief appearances this season, posting a strong 3.13 FIP while maintaining a career-high rate of 12.84 K/9. The 33-year-old, who relies heavily on his sinker and slider, is making $6.25 million this season and comes with a club option for 2023. Meanwhile, Mantiply, 32, is controllable through 2026, making him a more intriguing option for teams with a longer-term focus. He has tossed 15.2 innings this season, racking up a 3.23 xFIP, 8.04 K/9, 0.57 BB/9, and 53.2 GB%. Both players are solid bullpen contributors and could give an extra boost to contenders should Arizona choose to trade them.

Tue Apr 18 202323:38Diamondbacks Reinstate Joe Mantiply From Injured List
The Arizona Diamondbacks reinstated left-hander Joe Mantiply (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list on Tuesday and optioned right-hander Luis Frias to Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move. Mantiply should return to a high-leverage role in Arizona's bullpen after needing some time to recover from left shoulder fatigue. The 32-year-old southpaw will be making his 2023 season debut when he gets into a game. He was a first-time All-Star in 2022 in his fifth year in the big leagues. Mantiply was impressive with a career-best 2.85 ERA (2.83 FIP), 1.08 WHIP, two saves, six walks and 61 strikeouts in 60 innings over 69 relief appearances. He has value in fantasy leagues that count holds.

Wed Mar 29 202311:19Joe Mantiply Starting On Injured List
Arizona Diamondbacks relief pitcher Joe Mantiply (shoulder) will begin the 2023 regular season on the injured list. Tests on Mantiply's shoulder came back clean, though, so manager Torey Lovullo thinks it's possible the reliever will be able to return when he's eligible to come off the IL. With Mantiply out to start the season, hard-throwing reliever Carlos Vargas will make the Opening Day roster in the bullpen. Vargas, who can routinely touch triple digits with his fastball, was acquired in an offseason trade with the Cleveland Guardians. He has only thrown 34 1/3 innings at full-season levels in the minors, but he gave up just three runs in 10 1/3 innings with four walks and 13 strikeouts this spring.

Tue May 3 202222:27Joe Mantiply Secures Save In Tuesday's Win Over Miami
Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Joe Mantiply tossed a scoreless inning to earn the save during Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Miami Marlins. In the ninth inning, he entered the game to protect a one-run lead and threw a scoreless frame to notch his second save. The 31-year-old has been terrific out of the bullpen in 2022, owning a 0.80 WHIP and striking out four over 10 scoreless innings. Arizona's primary closer Mark Melancon (illness), is on the injured list, and Ian Kennedy got the save chance for Monday's 5-4 win over the Marlins. The Diamondbacks turned to Mantiply for Tuesday's save opportunity. Melancon is expected to return soon to retain his closer role, but Kennedy and Mantiply can be added in deep-league formats for fantasy managers searching for saves.

Sun Apr 24 202200:13Joe Mantiply Picks Up Save For Diamondbacks
Arizona Diamondbacks reliever Joe Mantiply picked up his first career save on Saturday, pitching a 1-2-3 ninth inning to close out the team's 5-2 win over the Mets. With closer Mark Melancon working the previous two nights, it was the left-hander who got the call to seal the victory as he recorded a strikeout and a pair of ground outs in the 12-pitch frame. Mantiply has been sharp this season over 6 2/3 innings of scoreless work despite not having a prototypical overpowering arm with just three strikeouts to date. Melancon remains the top closing option in Arizona, so Mantiply can just be a name to stash away in case something were to happen to the 37-year-old veteran.

Sun May 23 202116:23Diamondbacks RHP Widener exits in 2nd inning
DENVER (AP) — Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Taylor Widener left Sunday’s game at Colorado in the second inning with an apparent injury. It was Widener's first game since April 22. He was reinstated from the 10-day injured list after being sidelined by a right groin strain. Widener allowed an unearned run 1 2/3 innings against the Rockies. After Trevor Story’s RBI single in the second, Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo and a trainer came to the mound and Widener was replaced by lefty Joe Mantiply. ___ More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports
