Thu Feb 1523:40Trevor Williams Yet To Report To Camp
Washington Nationals right-hander Trevor Williams is the only healthy pitcher who has not reported to spring training yet, as he remains home in San Diego waiting for his wife to give birth to the couple's first child. Barring another addition to the roster, Williams is penciled in as the team's No. 5 starter and is expected to arrive at camp within the next few days. Based on what general manager Mike Rizzo said, the 31-year-old shouldn't face any competition for his rotation spot to open the 2024 season. He won't really be of much consideration in mixed fantasy leagues, though, after posting a 5.55 ERA and 1.60 WHIP in 144 1/3 innings for the Nationals last season. When former first-rounder Cade Cavalli (elbow) makes his season debut at some point this summer, it could push Williams to a long-relief role.

Wed Sep 20 202312:50Trevor Williams Being Skipped In Rotation
The Washington Nationals are skipping right-hander Trevor Williams' turn in the starting rotation, but manager Dave Martinez said that Williams will make another start next week. The team's weekend rotation against the Atlanta Braves will be Jake Irvin, Patrick Corbin and Joan Adon, with the final starter on Sunday yet to be announced. The 31-year-old Williams' next start lines up to be on Sept. 27 in a tough matchup against the Baltimore Orioles. We wouldn't recommend streaming him for that one, especially after he's surrendered 18 runs (17 earned) on 25 hits (five homers) while walking six and striking out eight in 10 1/3 innings in his three September starts against the Marlins, Dodgers and Brewers.

Mon Aug 14 202312:51Trevor Williams Hit Hard Sunday
Washington Nationals right-hander Trevor Williams had a start to forget on Sunday against the visiting Oakland Athletics, allowing five earned runs on six hits (three homers) while walking two and striking out four in 4 1/3 innings pitched. Williams was lucky to pick up a no-decision in an eventual 8-7 victory. Fantasy managers in deeper leagues might want to start looking for better options. The 31-year-old San Diego native is in a tough stretch over his last four starts, allowing 20 earned runs on 30 hits (eight homers) while walking seven and striking out 16 in 19 innings pitched. On the year as a whole, Williams is 5-7 with a 5.20 ERA (5.93 FIP), 1.52 WHIP, a league-high 28 long balls allowed, 40 walks and 90 K's in 117 2/3 innings (24 starts) in his first year in D.C.

Sun Aug 6 202313:47Trevor Williams Reinstated From Bereavement List
Washington Nationals starting pitcher Trevor Williams has been reinstated from the bereavement list and is slated to start on Monday against the Philadelphia Phillies. In a corresponding move, the Nats activated Israel Pineda off the 60-day IL and optioned him to Double-A. Williams owns a 4.72 ERA, 1.49 WHIP, and 79:37 K/BB ratio over 108 2/3 innings (22 starts) this season and isn't a particularly appealing steaming option for fantasy purposes.

Fri Dec 9 202213:03Nationals Sign Trevor Williams
The Washington Nationals signed free-agent right-hander Trevor Williams to a two-year deal on Friday, according to a source. The deal is reportedly worth $13 million. The 30-year-old bounced around between the starting rotation and the bullpen for the New York Mets last year as a swingman, posting a solid 3.21 ERA and 1.23 WHIP over 89 2/3 innings pitched. In Washington, he could end up being the No. 5 starter or a long reliever. A lot will depend on the health of right-handed starter Stephen Strasburg (ribs), but Williams will give the team some valuable pitching depth. In his seven-year big-league career, Williams has posted a 4.27 ERA (4.40 FIP), a 1.34 WHIP, one save and a 19.2 percent strikeout rate in 715 1/3 innings over 159 outings (118 starts).

Thu Dec 8 202213:03Mets Could Reunite With Trevor Williams
The New York Mets are talking to free-agent right-hander Trevor Williams about a reunion. The 30-year-old is a pitcher to keep an eye on, and the Mets aren't the only team in on him this offseason. Williams went 3-5 with a 3.21 ERA (3.88 FIP), a 1.23 WHIP, 84 strikeouts and 23 walks in 89 2/3 innings for the Mets in 2022 in 30 outings (nine starts). If he returns to Queens, he could operate once again in a valuable swing-man role for the Mets' rotation/bullpen. In seven major-league seasons, Williams has a 4.27 ERA (4.40 FIP), a 1.34 WHIP and a 590:231 K:BB in 715 1/3 innings pitched over 159 appearances (118 starts) for the Mets, Pittsburgh Pirates and Chicago Cubs.

Wed Sep 29 202112:02Trevor Williams Goes Four Strong Innings In Bulk Outing
New York Mets pitcher Trevor Williams entered in the second inning of Tuesday's nightcap against the Miami Marlins, taking over for opener Noah Syndergaard. Williams went four innings, allowing one run on five hits with six strikeouts. Williams has been excellent since joining the Mets, posting a 2.63 ERA in nine appearances including three starts. He figures to make one more appearance at least, and fantasy managers desperate for quality innings could do worse.

Wed Aug 11 202121:59Trevor Williams Getting The Nod For Game 2
New York Mets pitcher Trevor Williams will start Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader against Washington. With Wednesday's contest getting postponed due to inclement weather, Marcus Stroman will now start Game 1, allowing Williams to get some work with the big club. The 29-year-old, who was recently acquired from the Chicago Cubs during the Javier Baez trade, has fared well during his time in Syracuse thus far. Williams has upside for those managers in desperate need of pitching. However, he shouldn't be viewed as anything other than a streaming option, at least not at the moment.

Sat Jul 31 202120:55Trevor Williams Will Debut With Triple-A Syracuse Saturday
New York Mets pitcher Trevor Williams will make his organization debut with Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday. He will remain in the rotation in the minors as a "stretched-out" option, ready to step in if the Mets need him. Williams was acquired by New York at the MLB trade deadline but optioned to Triple-A Syracuse shortly after. The 29-year-old owned a (4-2) record along with a 5.06 ERA, 1.53 WHIP, and a 61:22 K: BB across 58 2/3 innings in 2021. Mets ace Jacob deGrom (forearm) suffered a setback on Friday; Williams could get the call to the big leagues sooner than later. Fantasy managers can leave Williams on the waiver wire.

Sat Jul 31 202102:55Joey Votto homers for 7th straight game, 1 shy of MLB record
NEW YORK (AP) — Joey Votto homered for the seventh straight game, one shy of a major league record, and the Cincinnati Reds beat the New York Mets 6-2 on Friday night. Jonathan India went deep twice for the Reds, including a leadoff shot that came on Carlos Carrasco’s first pitch with the Mets. Acquired from Cleveland in January, the veteran right-hander finally made his New York debut after recovering from a hamstring injury. It was an up-and-down day for the Mets, who made a big deal to get Javier Báez from the Chicago Cubs before baseball’s trade deadline — and then revealed injured ace Jacob deGrom will be shut down for two more weeks because of inflammation in his pitching elbow, making it unlikely he’ll rejoin the NL East leaders before September. Báez was acquired from the Cubs along with right-hander Trevor Williams for outfield prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong, the Mets’ first-round pick in the 2020 amateur draft. Báez is expected to join the Mets on Saturday and will play shortstop... [More]

Sat Jul 31 202101:55Mets get Bez, Williams from Cubs for outfield prospect
NEW YORK (AP) — Javier Báez got his wish: He's headed to New York to play with Francisco Lindor. But first, the Mets are counting on their big-name newcomer to replace his good buddy at shortstop for a while. With the trade deadline fast approaching Friday, the NL East leaders acquired Báez and pitcher Trevor Williams from the Chicago Cubs for outfield prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong. Báez, a two-time All-Star and 2020 Gold Glove winner, gives New York an immediate fill-in for Lindor. The star shortstop, obtained from Cleveland in a blockbuster deal last winter, is sidelined with a strained oblique and not expected back until at least mid-to-late August. “I’m super excited. I couldn’t be happier," Lindor said. "I can’t wait for him to come out here and put on a show for everybody.” The flashy Báez, who can become a free agent after the season, is batting .248 with 22 home runs and 65 RBIs. He has a .775 OPS and 13 stolen bases in 16 tries, but also leads the National League with 131 strikeouts.... [More]

Fri Jul 30 202122:35LEADING OFF: Votto tries to tie HR mark, ex-Cubs on the move
A look at what’s happening around the majors Saturday: ___ EIGHT IS ENOUGH Joey Votto has homered in seven straight games and the Cincinnati Reds star can match a major league record by going deep against the New York Mets. Votto connected for a solo shot to center field off Mets reliever Drew Smith during Cincinnati's 6-2 victory Friday night at Citi Field. The six-time All-Star and 2010 NL MVP became the eighth player to homer in at least seven straight games and first since Kendrys Morales did it for the Toronto Blue Jays in August 2018. Dale Long (1956), Don Mattingly (1987) and Ken Griffey Jr. (1993) are the only players to go deep in eight consecutive games. Votto has nine homers and 15 RBIs during his streak, which began last Saturday and includes just one hit that wasn’t a home run — an infield single against the Chicago Cubs on Thursday. ___ REVISED ROSTERS Plenty of big-name players are in different uniforms this weekend after a whirlwind of activity before MLB's trade deadline... When Lindor returns, Báez could move to second base or third. Williams also is a significant part of the deal for the Mets, who were eager to reinforce a thin starting rotation depleted by injuries.
