The New York Yankees signed free-agent right-hander Tyler Danish to a minor-league deal on Thursday that includes an invite to major-league spring training. Danish spent last season with the Boston Red Sox, appearing in 32 games out of the bullpen while compiling a 5.13 ERA (4.97 FIP), 1.28 WHIP and 18.5 percent strikeout rate in a career-high 40 1/3 innings pitched. He made his MLB debut back in 2016 with the Chicago White Sox and spent the first three seasons of his career with the Pale Hose. The 28-year-old will be hoping to win a spot on the Opening Day roster as relief depth for the Yankees, but he won't have any fantasy value.

Relief pitcher Tyler Danish was outrighted by the Boston Red Sox on Monday, the team announced in a tweet. Additionally, per the Red Sox's tweet, Danish elected to become a free agent. The 28-year-old previously made 32 appearances for the American League East club during the 2022 season, logging 40.1 innings and pitching to a 5.13 ERA and a 4.97 FIP while striking out 32 batters. He also surrendered 12 walks in those 40.1 innings. Heading into the offseason, Boston's bullpen options include the likes of John Schrieber, Matt Barnes, Garrett Whitlock, Ryan Brasier, Tanner Houck, and Kutter Crawford.

PHOENIX (AP) — Cincinnati Reds All-Star second baseman Scooter Gennett injured his right leg while fielding a grounder against Milwaukee and was helped off the field.Gennett ranged to his left for a ball off the bat of Yasmani Grandal leading off the second inning Friday. Gennett slid to make the stop and threw to pitcher Robert Stephenson covering first for the out. CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago White Sox say outfielder Avisail Garcia has had surgery on his right knee.Limited to 93 games because of discomfort in the knee, Garcia went from batting .330 in a breakout All-Star season in 2017 to .236 this year. CHICAGO (AP) — White Sox manager Rick Renteria was released from a Minnesota hospital on Tuesday after undergoing tests following an episode of lightheadedness.The 56-year-old Renteria was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center before Monday night's 8-5 victory over the Twins. CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago White Sox have recalled right-hander Thyago Vieira from Triple-A Charlotte and purchased the contract of righty Tyler Danish from their top minor league affiliate.Veteran pitcher Chris Volstad was designated for assignment Friday. One roster spot was available after the White Sox traded reliever Joakim Soria to the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday.The 25-year-old Vieira was 0-4 with six saves and a 5.05 ERA in 36 relief appearances with Charlotte. The 24-year-old Danish was 1-3 with a 3.06 ERA in 29 games at Triple-A.Volstad was 1-5 with a 6.27 ERA in 33 relief appearances for the White Sox. The 31-year-old righty was signed as a minor league free agent last winter.

Danish has a 4.36 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and 43 strikeouts in 53.2 innings with Double-A Birmingham.

Danish's ERA sat at a sparkling 2.77 on May 15, but he has since given up 14 earned runs over 14.2 innings in his last three starts. He probably was not as good as his numbers suggested a couple weeks ago, but he is also not as bad as his current numbers suggest. Danish, 20, should be viewed as a relatively safe mid-rotation arm who could get in the mix as early as 2016 for the White Sox.
