The Cleveland Guardians released outfielder Anthony Alford from his minor league contract on Wednesday. Tue May 3 202212:02Guardians Sign Anthony Alford To Minors Deal
The Cleveland Guardians signed outfielder Anthony Alford to a minor league deal on Tuesday and assigned him to Triple-A Columbus. The third-round pick out of Ole Miss in 2012 has split his major league career between the Toronto Blue Jays and Pittsburgh Pirates. The 27-year-old rejected an outright assignment by the Pirates and became a free agent on April 24, and now he'll become organizational depth for the Guardians. Alford had one hit in four at-bats over two games for the Bucs this year, and he slashed .233/.311/.406 with five home runs, 11 RBI and five stolen bases in 49 games for Pittsburgh in 2021. He has only eight home runs and a .209 career average in six major league seasons.

Fri Apr 22 202216:55Anthony Alford Activated From Injured List
The Pittsburgh Pirates activated outfielder Anthony Alford (wrist) from the 10-day injured list on Friday. In a corresponding move, infielder Hoy Park was optioned to Triple-A. Alford suffered a right wrist sprain during Spring Training and began the season on the injured list. While rehabbing the injury, he played five games at Triple-A and went 5-for-15 with three home runs. The 27-year-old should see a good amount of playing time this year. Last season, he appeared in 49 games for the Pirates and slashed .233/.311/.406 with five home runs, five stolen bases, 11 RBI and 14 runs.

Mon Apr 18 202211:31Anthony Alford, Luis Oviedo Rehabbing In Minors
Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Anthony Alford (wrist) was scheduled to begin a rehab assignment on April 16 with Single-A Bradenton, and medical director Todd Tomczyk said on April 13 that Alford had resumed all baseball hitting activities with minimal to no symptoms. Relief pitcher Luis Oviedo (ankle), meanwhile, will move from Bradenton to Double-A Altoona to continue his rehab assignment. Oviedo didn't give up a run over 2 1/3 innings at Bradenton, but he did walk three batters and hit another. Alford began the year on the injured list, but he could join the Pirates this week as a platoon outfielder. Oviedo sprained his right ankle in spring training, but he, too, could rejoin Pittsburgh sometime this week.

Sun Sep 5 202114:07Anthony Alford Has Two Hits, Two Steals On Saturday
Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Anthony Alford went 2-for-4 with two steals, one RBI and a run scored in a 7-6 loss to the Cubs on Saturday. He now has four steals over 26 games with Pittsburgh this season, as he's slashing .203/.272/.405 with four homers, eight RBI and seven runs scored on the year. He really won't have much value in anything but the deepest of formats, but he could be a potential low-cost DFS play when he's in the lineup.

Fri Sep 3 202121:08Anthony Alford Homers Twice On Friday
Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Anthony Alford went 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI in Friday's 6-5 loss to the Chicago Cubs. He blasted a solo shot off Alec Mills in the fifth inning and then launched a two-run shot in the sixth frame. The 27-year-old has now homered four times over his last nine games. Overall, he is slashing .186/.250/.400 with four home runs, seven RBI, and two stolen bases over 76 plate appearances in 2021. Alford is the Pirates' everyday left fielder and is a speculative add in deep-league formats while he's locked in at the plate.

Thu Sep 2 202109:48Anthony Alford Goes Yard On Wednesday
Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Anthony Alford went 1-for-4 with a solo home run during Wednesday's 6-3 loss to the Chicago White Sox. He took Aaron Bummer deep in the seventh inning to reduce Chicago's lead 5-2. It was his second long ball of the season. Since returning from the injured list on August 24, the Pirates outfielder is slashing .250/.286/.600 with two home runs, three RBI over seven games. Alford is the team's every day left fielder but hasn't produced enough to be considered anything more than a flier in deep-league formats.

Sun Aug 15 202112:58Anthony Alford Lands On Injured List Sunday
Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Anthony Alford (back) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Sunday with back spasms, according to Mike Persak of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette. To replace him on the roster, the Pirates activated outfielder Ben Gamel from the injured list. Alford has not had any value in fantasy this year, as he's slashing .146/.239/.195 with one steal, one RBI and two runs scored over 16 games. He can be left on the waiver wire in all formats.

Sat Mar 13 202120:19Yanks newcomer Kluber takes another step after 2 lost years
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Corey Kluber overcame occasional wildness, allowing two runs and four hits over four innings in his second start, and the New York Yankees beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-5 on Saturday. Kluber is a two-time Cy Young Award winner with his third team in three years. He has thrown one inning since being hit on the right forearm by a comebacker in May 2019, none since tearing a muscle in his right shoulder in his Texas debut last July 26. That injury ended his season after one inning. Kluber hit two batters, threw a wild pitch and allowed a third-inning solo homer to Troy Stokes Jr. He struck out two in an outing when the Pirates went down in order just once. “Some pitches, probably, could have been located a little better, been a little sharper” Kluber said. “The home run, first pitch, left it a little too much over the plate. Definitely some stuff to work on. Fine tuning location, things like that.” “I was happy with the way I felt physically,” he said. The right-hander allowed... [More]

CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago White Sox acquired speedy outfielder Jarrod Dyson in a trade with Pittsburgh on Friday and reinstated Nick Madrigal from the 10-day injured list.Dyson is batting just .157 (8 for 57) this season, but he swiped 30 bags last year. He won the World Series in 2015 with Kansas City and could serve as a valuable pinch runner for Chicago as it chases its first playoff appearance since 2008.The White Sox sent international signing bonus pool money to the last-place Pirates for the 36-year-old Dyson, who is a .245 career hitter with 254 steals in 879 games. He just faced Chicago on Tuesday night, going 0 for 3 while Lucas Giolito threw a no-hitter in a 4-0 victory for the White Sox.Dyson was the odd man out for Pittsburgh after it claimed outfielder Anthony Alford off waivers from Toronto on Thursday. To make room for Dyson on the roster, Chicago designated outfielder Nicky Delmonico for assignment and optioned outfielder Luis González to its alternate training site in Schaumburg.Madrigal, one of Chicago's top prospects, made his big league debut July 31, but he separated his left shoulder in his fifth game with the team. The 23-year-old second baseman was selected by the White Sox with the fourth overall pick in the 2018 draft.Catcher Zack Collins was optioned to Schaumburg to create a spot for Madrigal.___More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports
