Wed Mar 1318:26Kyle Schwarber Expected To Play Thursday
Philadelphia Phillies manager Rob Thomson said that he expects outfielder/designated hitter Kyle Schwarber (groin) to play in the Grapefruit League contest on Thursday against the Boston Red Sox after he was scratched from the lineup on Wednesday versus the Detroit Tigers as a precaution due to right-groin tightness. "He said he felt fine to play, but I pulled him out just as a precaution," Thomson said. The 31-year-old left-handed slugger seems to be just fine and will be ready for the start of the 2024 regular season at the end of March. Schwarber has carried one of the lowest batting averages in recent seasons among regular starters, but his elite power production and RBI opportunities in a strong Phillies lineup make him worth of being a No. 2 fantasy outfielder.

Wed Mar 1313:03Kyle Schwarber Scratched With Groin Tightness
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Kyle Schwarber (groin) is being scratched from Wednesday's Grapefruit League lineup against the Detroit Tigers due to right-groin tightness. He's being considered day-to-day. It's something to keep an eye on, but the 31-year-old left-handed slugger is probably fine and should be ready for Opening Day on March 28. When healthy, Schwarber will mostly be Philly's designated hitter while batting leadoff, despite the fact that the two-time All-Star hit under .200 last year. It's a tradeoff the Phillies are willing to take. Schwarber has led the league in each of the last two years in strikeouts but has also hit 93 home runs and driven in 198 RBI. As long as you make up for the batting average drain elsewhere, Schwarber is as good of a power source as a No. 2 fantasy outfielder as there is.

Wed Feb 2800:41Kyle Schwarber Hitless In Lone Spring Game
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder/designated hitter Kyle Schwarber has appeared in just one spring training game early on, going 0-for-3 with a strikeout on Sunday. The 30-year-old is set to be the team's primary DH in 2024 after slashing .197/.343/.474 with 47 home runs, 108 runs scored, and 104 RBI in 720 plate appearances in 2023. Schwarber has never provided much in batting average with a career .227 BA. However, he offers elite power production and counting stats given the lineup he hits in. Fantasy managers willing to take the hit in average should be rewarded with power. Perhaps he can get off to a strong start this spring and pull his BA closer to his career average.

Wed Oct 18 202313:12Kyle Schwarber Hits Two More Bombs In Rout Over Diamondbacks
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder/designated hitter Kyle Schwarber continued his all-or-nothing ways in the 10-0 rout over the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday night in Game 2 of the National League Championship Series to help the Phils take a commanding two games to none lead in the best-of-seven series. Schwarber went 2-for-3 with two solo home runs, three runs scored and a walk in the game. The 30-year-old left-handed slugger has now gone deep in back-to-back games after not doing much at the plate in the wild-card series or the NLDS against the Miami Marlins and Atlanta Braves, respectively. Schwarber had 47 long balls in 160 regular-season games, although he also hit just .197 (115-for-585).

Tue Oct 17 202313:23Kyle Schwarber Hits Another Leadoff Homer, Sets New Record
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Kyle Schwarber hit a leadoff home run off Arizona Diamondbacks starter Zac Gallen in the bottom of the first inning of Game 1 of the National League Championship Series on Tuesday night to set a new postseason record. The long ball marked Schwarber's fourth leadoff homer of his postseason career, moving him past Derek Jeter and Jimmy Rollins for the most in MLB history. His home run had an exit velocity of 117.1 mph, making it the fourth-hardest-hit playoff homer by any player in the Statcast era. It was Schwarber's first round-tripper since Sept. 30. He had gone 4-for-25 with a double in the first two playoff series this year, so the Phillies are hoping this gets him going the rest of the way. The 30-year-old slugger became the first player in history in 2023 to hit 40 home runs with a sub-.200 average.

Thu Sep 28 202314:36Kyle Schwarber Among Several Phillies Regulars Returning Thursday
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder/designated hitter Kyle Schwarber is among a host of Phillies regulars to get back into the starting lineup Thursday after the club rested several regulars Wednesday following a playoff-clinching victory on Tuesday. Schwarber joins Trea Turner, Alex Bohm, J.T. Realmuto, and Nick Castellanos as everyday players back in action on Thursday versus Pirates right-hander Luis L. Ortiz. The veteran has put forth one of the more unique seasons in MLB history in 2023, hitting just .196 but also launching 45 home runs, nearly matching his 47 singles on the campaign. He still boasts a big-time 17.6% BB%, .812 OPS, and a 118 wRC+ across his 156 appearances on the season.

Thu Sep 7 202312:33Kyle Schwarber Clubs 41st Homer Wednesday
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder/designated hitter Kyle Schwarber went 2-for-4 with his 41st home run of the season, an RBI, two runs scored, a walk and a strikeout in the team's 5-1 win on the road in San Diego over the Padres on Wednesday. Schwarber led off the game with a towering blast, and it was his 11th home run in his last 18 games. The 30-year-old lefty slugger is batting under the Mendoza Line this year at .195 (98-for-503) and leads the league with 177 strikeouts in 623 plate appearances, but he's hitting .302 (16-for-53) with nine home runs, three doubles, 12 RBI and 17 runs scored in 15 starts since Aug. 21. Schwarber is now five home runs shy of tying the career-high in homers he set last year when he led the league with 46 in 155 games.

Sat Aug 26 202300:53Kyle Schwarber Slugs 35th Homer In Win
Philadelphia Phillies left fielder Kyle Schwarber went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, and two RBI in Friday's 7-2 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. The 30-year-old doubled in a go-ahead run during the second inning before greeting Andrew Suarez rudely with a seventh-inning leadoff homer. Schwarber continues to tank the batting average (.187) fantasy category, but the feast-or-famine slugger is compensating for it with 35 big flies, 83 RBI, 80 runs scored, and 98 walks in 571 plate appearances this year.

Sat Aug 19 202312:46Kyle Schwarber Goes Deep Twice In Loss To Nats
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Kyle Schwarber put on a power display against his former team, the Washington Nationals, in an 8-7 loss on Friday night. Serving as the Phils' leadoff man and designated hitter, Schwarber went 2-for-4 with two home runs, three RBI, two runs scored, a walk and a strikeout. Schwarber's fantasy managers are getting all-or-nothing results from the 30-year-old left-handed slugger, as he's hitting just .182 (81-for-444) on the year with 32 long balls, 77 RBI and 73 runs scored in 121 games (542 plate appearances). In the month of August, he's gone 10-for-54 (.185) with five home runs, 12 RBI, 20 strikeouts and 11 runs scored in 15 starts.

Sat Aug 12 202300:00Kyle Schwarber Dealing With Foot Contusion
Philadelphia Phillies manager Rob Thomson said that outfielder Kyle Schwarber (foot) is dealing with a foot contusion after being removed from Friday's game early against the Minnesota Twins when he fouled a ball off his foot. Schwarber is sore and will be re-evaluated on Saturday morning. It sounds like a day-to-day situation, but fantasy managers shouldn't expect Schwarber to be right back in the lineup on Saturday. The 30-year-old left-handed slugger did some damage before leaving, going 2-for-2 with an RBI, two runs scored and two walks to raise his season average to .186 in the eventual 13-2 blowout win. Schwarber strikes out a lot but also has elite power from the left side, slugging 30 homers and driving in 73 on the year.

Fri Aug 11 202321:55Kyle Schwarber Leaves Game Friday Night
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Kyle Schwarber (foot) was removed from Friday's game after fouling a ball off his foot. Gelb's report noted it didn't look serious and teammates were "razzing" him in the dugout. Nonetheless, expect some tests to be done for the slugger and an update to come when those tests are available.

Wed Aug 9 202316:16Kyle Schwarber, Bryson Stott Resting Against Lefty
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder/designated hitter Kyle Schwarber and infielder Bryson Stott are both sitting out on Wednesday against left-hander MacKenzie Gore and the Washington Nationals. Trea Turner is the designated hitter and is batting leadoff, while Edmundo Sosa will start at shortstop and bat eighth for the Phils. Schwarber clubbed two home runs in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader, but he'll get a breather after playing in both games of the double dip. The 30-year-old left-handed power hitter has 30 bombs and 72 RBI, but he's hitting just .183 (77-for-420) on the year. Stott has been impressive in his second MLB season, slashing .302/.346/.438 with 10 homers, 44 RBI, 21 stolen bases and 56 runs scored in 107 games played.

Wed Aug 9 202312:53Kyle Schwarber Homers Twice In First Game Of Doubleheader
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder/designated hitter Kyle Schwarber had a big game in an 8-4 win over the visiting Washington Nationals in Game 1 of a doubleheader on Tuesday, going 2-for-4 with two home runs, five RBI, two runs scored and a strikeout. In Game 2, a 5-4 loss for the Phillies, Schwarber went 0-for-3 with two walks, a run scored and a strikeout. The 30-year-old left-handed slugger has been great for power (30 homers on the year) and run production (72 RBI), but you'll have to live with him killing your team batting average. Schwarber is hitting just .183 (77-for-420) in 2023 with a league-leading 149 strikeouts in 510 trips to the plate. The two-time All-Star has gone 16-for-89 (.180) since the All-Star break with eight homers, two doubles, 23 RBI and 32 K's in 25 starts.

Sat Jul 29 202301:10Kyle Schwarber Reaches Five Times, Powers Friday's Win
Philadelphia Phillies left fielder Kyle Schwarber went 2-for-2 with a two-run home run and three walks in Friday's 2-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The 30-year-old doubled during the first frame before being caught trying to steal his first base of the campaign. Schwarber's third-inning two-run jack ultimately proved to be enough in the scoring column for Philly on a night Zack Wheeler was dealing. The slugger then drew three free passes (one intentional) to reach base safely five times on the evening. Schwarber has been his usual three-true-outcome self in 2023, slashing .186/.317/.437 with 27 four-baggers, 64 RBI, and 60 runs scored in 382 at-bats.

Sun Jul 16 202322:24Kyle Schwarber Homers Yet Again, Walks It Off In Win
Philadelphia Phillies left fielder Kyle Schwarber went yard for the third straight game, also going 2-for-5 with a walk-off sacrifice fly in Sunday's 7-6 win over the San Diego Padres. The 30-year-old belted a solo homer to kick-start Philadelphia's key four-run sixth inning. Schwarber then played the role of hero in extra innings, lifting a sac fly to left field to score the previously advanced "ghost runner" for a Phillies walk-off victory. The all-or-nothing slugger is slashing .189/.314/.444 with 25 round-trippers, 56 RBI, and 55 runs scored over 414 plate appearances this season. Schwarber could be looking forward to a three-game series starting Tuesday with the Milwaukee Brewers, who he owns a .265 BA with nine big flies and 23 RBI against in 37 games (117 at-bats) since 2019.

Fri Jun 30 202322:36Kyle Schwarber Producing Despite Lowly Batting Average
Kyle Schwarber remains in left field and atop the Philadelphia Phillies batting order despite his lowly .186 batting average heading into Friday night's series opener at home against the Washington Nationals. The 30-year-old finished the 2022 season with a .218 batting average and a .323 on-base percentage to go with his career-high 46 homers. Schwarber has somehow elevated his impressive walk rate even more this season, leading to a .326 OBP. He is just off the home run pace from last year, however, with 21 round-trippers at the halfway mark of the season. A typical strikeout rate, a surprisingly low .200 BABIP, and a hard hit rate without red flags suggest that Schwarber will find his way above the Mendoza Line before season's end, but fantasy managers in traditional 5x5 roto leagues will continue to be punished by his dreadfully low average while reaping the benefits of his home run power and runs scored.

Sat Jun 10 202309:41Kyle Schwarber Continues Power Surge With Fourth Homer In Five Games
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Kyle Schwarber went 2-for-3 with a walk-off solo home run and two additional runs scored in the team's 5-4 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday. The 30-year-old's bat has caught fire, going 8-for-26 with four big flies and eight RBI over his last seven outings. The hot streak has Schwarber back up to a .330 OBP and .775 OPS for the season, his highest figures since May 1. The 2022 Silver Slugger is also up to 17 bombs, tied for third in the NL, and 35 RBI this year. Hopefully fantasy managers are punting his ghastly .177 BA to really appreciate the slugging goodness. Schwarber has a chance to gain some ground on Pete Alonso's (hand) MLB-high 22 blasts while the New York Mets star is injured.

Fri Jun 2 202316:41Trea Turner Dropped To Five-Hole, Kyle Schwarber Leading Off
Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Trea Turner is being dropped to the No. 5 spot in the batting order on Friday against the Washington Nationals and right-hander Josiah Gray, while outfielder Kyle Schwarber slides up into the leadoff spot. Turner is in a rough stretch that has seen him go 5-for-38 (.132) with a home run, four RBI and five strikeouts in his last nine games. It has dropped his overall line in his first year in Philly to a disappointing .236/.279/.369 with 12 doubles, two triples, five home runs, 15 RBI and eight steals in 55 games. The 29-year-old could heat up at any moment, but the move down to the five-hole on Friday is bad news for his immediate fantasy value. Schwarber hasn't been much better of late, going 2-for-30 in his last nine games.

Tue May 23 202300:23Kyle Schwarber Hits 12th Homer Of Season Monday
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Kyle Schwarber made his one hit count in Monday's 6-3 loss to the Diamondbacks. Schwarber went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk, and a strikeout. The fourth-inning drive was the slugger's 12th HR of the season. The 30-year-old has been on the lower end of expectations to this point, slashing .177/.322/.421 with 24 RBI. Fantasy managers have never expected Schwarber to hit for a high average, but hopefully, he can bring it up a bit, which should also help provide more extra-base hits.
