Sat Oct 29 202213:26A's Sign Tyler Wade
The Oakland Athletics signed infielder Tyler Wade to a minor league deal on Friday. Wade played the second half of the 2022 regular season on a non-roster deal with the New York Yankees but elected free agency earlier this month. The 27-year-old has spent time with the Yankees and Los Angeles Angels in his six big-league seasons. In 67 games with the Angels this year, he slashed .272/.272/.544 with a homer, eight RBI, 22 runs scored and eight stolen bases. The utility infielder had developed into one of New York's more interesting prospects after being a fourth-round pick in 2013, but he never had more than 145 plate appearances and has become more of a utility bat at this stage of his career. With plenty of opportunity in Oakland, Wade will compete for a roster spot in spring training next year.

Thu Jun 2 202211:34Brandon Marsh, Tyler Wade Out In Game 1
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Brandon Marsh and third baseman Tyler Wade are both out of the starting lineup in Game 1 of a doubleheader against the New York Yankees on Thursday. Both left-handed hitters will get a game to rest with Yankees left-hander Nestor Cortes on the mound. Marsh is hitting .276/.329/.393 with four homers, 26 RBI, 18 runs scored and three stolen bases in 43 games this year, while Wade hasn't been as good, slashing .229/.288/.302 with one homer, seven RBI, 14 runs and five steals in 41 games. Juan Lagares is starting in left field and is hitting eighth, while Matt Duffy gets the start at third base and is batting cleanup against the Yanks. Duffy is obviously the more attractive DFS play. He doesn't have much power at all, but he has gone 19-for-65 (.292) in 24 games this year.

Mon Nov 22 202121:09Angels Trade For Tyler Wade
The Los Angeles Angels acquired utility man Tyler Wade from the New York Yankees Monday, per a Yankees team announcement. The Yankees will receive either cash or a player to be named later in the swap, and the Angels announced that they have designated utility man Kean Wong for assignment in a corresponding move. The speedy, versatile Wade appeared in 103 games in 2021, slashing .268/.354/.323 with no home runs and 17 steals across just 145 plate appearances. He figures to fill a do-it-all role for the Angels in 2022, while providing a speed-and-defense fallback option should the club fail to sign a top shortstop on the free agent market.

Fri Nov 19 202120:16Tyler Wade Designated For Assignment
Infielder/outfielder Tyler Wade was designated for assignment on Friday by the New York Yankees as part of a series of transactions that saw a number of prospects added to the team's 40-man roster. Wade hit .268 in 145 plate appearances for New York last season, and while he didn't hit for much power with a .055 ISO, the 26-year-old registered a .354 on-base percentage and stole 17 bases while playing every position except first base, pitcher and catcher.

Wed Aug 11 202119:44Tyler Wade Collects A Pair Of Doubles, Stolen Bases In Win
New York Yankees infielder/outfielder Tyler Wade went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, two stolen bases, and a walk in Wednesday's win over the Royals. Wade doubled and stole third in the fourth inning, promptly scoring on the ensuing play. He later walked and collected another two-bagger as well as a swiped bag. Wade is on fire at the dish, with six hits, four runs scored, and three stolen bases in his last three games. The versatile fielder has started each of the last two contests at third but could also see time at short with both Gleyber Torres (thumb) and Gio Urshela (hamstring) sidelined. Wade is worth picking up while he's hot by roto or category league managers in need of steals.

Tue Aug 10 202111:14Tyler Wade Scores Three Runs, Steals Base Monday
New York Yankees infielder/outfielder Tyler Wade reached base safely four times, scoring a trio of runs while swiping his eighth stolen base in Monday's win over the Royals. Wade rapped a couple of singles, drew a walk, and reached base on a throwing error, putting his speed to good use. The 26-year-old is off to a hot start in August, as he's 5-for-7 with four runs scored, two RBI, and two stolen bases in five games played. Wade is in line to see his fair share of playing time, with Gleyber Torres (thumb) and Gio Urshela (hamstring) sidelined. So long as he continues to get on base, Wade could be helpful to fantasy managers in need of speed in deeper formats, considering the Yankees' recent emphasis on stealing bases since the All-Star break. As a career .202 hitter, he's more of a short-term solution than a season-long pickup.

Mon Jun 28 202121:40She's up! Bat girl 60 years in making reaches Yankee Stadium
NEW YORK (AP) — Gwen Goldman exchanged fist bumps with the New York Yankees she had been admiring for decades from afar, walked onto the field and waved to the crowd. She got to be a Yankees' bat girl on Monday night at age 70 — a full 60 years after she was turned down because of her gender. Shaking with excitement, she beamed while recounting how it felt to be at Yankee Stadium on this day for the game against the Los Angeles Angels. “I don’t know where to start, of which was the best, what did I enjoy the most?” she said during a news conference in the fourth inning. "The whole piece, from walking in the front door of the stadium at Gate 2, to coming up to a locker with my name on it that said Gwen Goldman, and suiting up, then walking out onto the field. It took my breath away. It’s obviously taking my words away also. “It was a thrill of a lifetime — times a million. And I actually got to be out in the dugout, too. I threw out a ball, I met the players. Yeah, it goes on and on. They... [More]

NEW YORK (AP) — Gwen Goldman finally got to be a bat girl for the New York Yankees — 60 years after she was turned down because of her gender. At 70, Goldman worked at Yankee Stadium during the game against the Los Angeles Angels on Monday night. She had been rejected by then-general manager Roy Hamey, who wrote her in a letter on June 23, 1961: “While we agree with you that girls are certainly as capable as boys, and no doubt would be an attractive addition on the playing field, I am sure you can understand that it is a game dominated by men a young lady such as yourself would feel out of place in a dugout.” Current Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said he had been forwarded an email written by Goldman's daughter, Abby. In a letter dated this June 23, Cashman wrote “it is not too late to reward and recognize the ambition you showed in writing that letter to us as a 10-year-old girl.” "Some dreams take longer than they should to be realized, but a goal attained should not dim with... Thu Jun 24 202102:09Giants wait out Ohtani, beat Angels in 13 innings
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Shohei Ohtani struck out nine over six innings of one-run ball for the Angels, but the San Francisco Giants rallied for seven runs in the 13th inning of a 9-3 victory over Los Angeles on Wednesday. Steven Duggar had an RBI double in the 12th and a two-run single in the 13th for the Giants, who finally blew it open while the Angels had outfielder Taylor Ward playing catcher and starting pitcher Griffin Canning playing left field as the fallout from an untimely injury to Kurt Suzuki and a series of strategic decisions made to allow Ohtani to hit for himself. Mike Tauchman struck out five times before hitting a three-run homer to cap the Giants’ 13th-inning rally. Brandon Crawford put San Francisco ahead to stay with a bases-loaded walk from Alex Claudio (1-2), who walked three straight in the 13th. The 13-inning game matched the longest in the majors since the institution of the runner-on-second-base rule to open extra innings last season. Dominic Leone (1-0) won despite... [More]

Sun Jun 6 202123:44La Russa gets 2,764th win, passes McGraw for 2nd place
CHICAGO (AP) — Tony La Russa moved past John McGraw into sole possession of second on baseball’s career manager wins list, directing the Chicago White Sox to a 3-0 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Sunday. It was win No. 2,764 for La Russa, who was hired by Chicago in October for his first managerial job since he led St. Louis to the World Series championship in 2011. It has been a bit of a bumpy ride so far, but the 76-year-old Hall of Famer has the White Sox on top of the AL Central. Second on the list is almost assuredly the highest finish for La Russa, who also began his managerial career with the White Sox in 1979. The top spot belongs to Connie Mack with 3,731 victories. La Russa watched as Chicago won for the 10th time in 14 games. Dylan Cease (4-2) struck out 10 in seven sparkling innings, Liam Hendriks worked the ninth for his 15th save and Tim Anderson had two hits and two RBIs.
