Sat Feb 1712:34Nationals Sign Zach Davies To Minor-League Deal
The Washington Nationals signed free-agent right-hander Zach Davies to a minor-league deal with an invitation to big-league spring training on Saturday. The 31-year-old veteran has been in the big leagues for nine years and has a career 4.36 ERA. He spent the last two seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks, going 4-10 with a 5.19 ERA (4.74 FIP) and 1.43 WHIP with 91 walks and 174 strikeouts in 216 2/3 innings over 45 starts. Davies fell apart last year, posting a bloated 7.00 ERA and 1.66 WHIP with 39 walks and 72 strikeouts in 82 1/3 innings over 18 starts for the Snakes. He'll be attempting to win a roster spot with the Nats in camp this year, but even if he joins the team's starting rotation at some point, Davies should be ignored in mixed fantasy leagues.

Wed Sep 27 202316:00Zach Davies Designated For Assignment
The Arizona Diamondbacks designated right-hander Zach Davies for assignment on Wednesday and recalled pitcher Justin Martinez from the minors in a corresponding move. Apparently the D-backs had seen enough with Davies after he allowed four earned runs on eight hits in just three innings in a no-decision against the Chicago White Sox in his start on Tuesday. The 30-year-old just wasn't good at all in Arizona this year, going 2-5 with a 7.00 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and 72 strikeouts in 82 1/3 innings in his 18 starts, and Arizona will look to upgrade their starting rotation if they make the postseason. Ryne Nelson is the best bet to take Davies' spot in the rotation if the club secures a wild-card spot.

Fri Aug 18 202312:13Zach Davies Ready To Return From Injured List
Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said that right-hander Zach Davies (back) is ready to return from the 15-day injured list, but whether he returns to start on Sunday against the San Diego Padres on the road could depend on what the weather looks like that day. There is expected to be heavy rain in San Diego on Sunday with Hurricane Hilary gaining strength off the coast of Mexico. If Sunday's game gets rained out, Davies could make another minor-league rehab start. The 30-year-old wasn't sharp in his latest rehab start at Triple-A Reno, allowing seven runs in three innings. Davies will be returning to a rough 7.38 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and 46 strikeouts in 57 1/3 innings (12 starts). If he does make Sunday's start against the Friars, avoid him in fantasy.

Wed Jul 19 202316:26Zach Davies Placed On 15-Day Injured List
The Arizona Diamondbacks placed right-hander Zach Davies (back) on the 15-day injured list on Wednesday with lower-back inflammation and recalled left-hander Joe Mantiply from Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move. The back injury probably had something to do with Davies allowing nine earned runs while walking three in just 3 2/3 innings against the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night. The poor performance dropped the 30-year-old to 1-5 on the season with a rough 7.38 ERA (4.69 FIP), 1.62 WHIP, 27 walks and only 46 strikeouts in 57 1/3 innings over 12 starts in his second season in the desert. The soft-tossing Davies just doesn't have enough strikeout upside to be valuable in many mixed fantasy leagues. It's unclear who will take his spot in Arizona's rotation.

Sat May 27 202313:15Zach Davies Will Be Activated And Start On Saturday
Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Zach Davies (oblique) will be activated from the IL on Saturday and will start against the Boston Red Sox. The 30-year-old right-hander has been out since April 9 with a left oblique strain. It's to be determined which current D-Backs starter will be demoted from the starting rotation but we should find out shortly. Davies logged two starts prior to his injury and put together an ugly 5.79 ERA, 1.61 WHIP, and 7:6 K/BB ratio over 9 1/3 innings. He can be left on the waiver wire for now.

Thu May 11 202322:09Zach Davies Set For Simulated Game
Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Zach Davies (oblique) is scheduled to pitch in another extended spring training game Sunday or Monday. He has been sidelined since early April with an oblique strain. Davis will throw 55 pitches, and the Diamondbacks will have him throw a couple more sessions before activating from the injured list. The 30-year-old owns a 5.79 ERA, 1.61 WHIP, and a 7:6 K: BB across 9 1/3 innings in 2023. Davies is expected to rejoin Arizona's rotation later this month but is mainly an option in deep-league formats.

Sun Apr 9 202300:25Zach Davies To Miss "Weeks"
Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Zach Davies (oblique) exited Saturday's game against the Dodgers. The 30-year-old logged 4 1/3 innings, surrendering five runs while walking four before getting pulled because of an oblique strain. Davies is likely heading for the injured list, with skipper Torey Lovullo stating the righty will miss "weeks." Lovullo also indicated there are "a lot of options on the table" regarding his replacement, including Drey Jameson, who is currently sitting on a 2-0 record and a 2.16 ERA in 8 1/3 innings.

Wed Jan 4 202318:18Zach Davies Re-Signs With Diamondbacks
The Arizona Diamondbacks re-signed right-hander Zach Davies to a one-year deal worth $5 million on Wednesday. The deal also includes $3 million in incentives. Davies became a free agent this offseason after declining his $1.5 million mutual option for the 2023 season. The 29-year-old makes sense for an up-and-coming Arizona team at the back end of their rotation as an innings-eater. Davies went 2-5 for the Snakes last season with a 4.09 ERA (4.83 FIP), 1.29 WHIP, 17.9 percent strikeout rate and 9.1 percent walk rate in 134 1/3 innings over 27 starts in the desert. He'll have to pitch well to keep his spot in the rotation for a Diamondbacks team that has some nice young talent ready and waiting in the pipeline. Davies has little fantasy upside because of a weak 17.4 percent strikeout rate.

Sat Jul 23 202208:56Zach Davies Completes 35-Pitch Bullpen Session
Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Zach Davies (shoulder) completed a 35-pitch bullpen session on Friday. According to Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo, Davies felt "very good" after the session. His next step will be throwing to live hitters and then he'll likely be sent on a rehab assignment after that. He remains without a return timetable. Davies has been on the 15-day injured list since June 28 due to right shoulder inflammation. The 29-year-old has put together a decent season overall, pitching to a 3.94 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP over 15 starts.

Fri May 27 202211:16Zach Davies On Track To Start On Sunday
Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Zach Davies (leg) is on track to make his scheduled start on Sunday. He was helped off the field after taking a line drive off his leg during Monday's game. The tests came back clean, so it sounds like Davies will take the mound against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday. He is posting a 4.81 ERA through nine starts this season. It's unlikely that Davies is going to be a reliable option for Sunday's outing. Fantasy managers should be able to find a better streaming option.

Tue May 24 202211:10Zach Davies Injures Leg Monday
Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Zach Davies (leg) left his outing on Monday against the Kansas City Royals with a right lower leg contusion. Third baseman Drew Ellis also left the contest early with right side discomfort. Davis took a line drive off his leg and limped off with trainers. Before he left the game, the 29-year-old allowed four earned runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out two over 3 2/3 innings. It's unknown if Davies will be able to make his next scheduled start. The soft-tossing right-hander isn't much use in traditional fantasy leagues, as he's sporting a 4.81 ERA and 1.37 WHIP with 17 walks and 32 strikeouts in 43 innings pitched over nine starts this season.

Tue Mar 22 202211:01Zach Davies Heads To Diamondbacks
Free-agent starting pitcher Zach Davies signed a one-year major league deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday. Davies will have the chance to make up to $4.5 million and includes a team option for 2023. The veteran right-hander doesn't get many swings and misses (6.6 career K/9) and had a 5.78 ERA and 1.60 WHIP in 32 starts over 148 innings for the Chicago Cubs in 2021. But the 29-year-old has plenty of starting experience (155 career starts) in seven big-league seasons, so he should be in line to serve in a back-end starting rotation role to begin the season for Arizona. Davies might be a warm body for those in NL-only leagues, but he won't be very appealing to managers in shallower leagues on a bad team.

Sun Sep 5 202119:12Zach Davies Has Another Bad Start
Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Zach Davies put together another bad outing in Sunday's no-decision versus the Pittsburgh Pirates. The right-hander only went four innings and allowed eight hits, six runs, three walks and struck out three on the afternoon. Davies has had a dismal year for the Cubs and is 6-10 with a 5.16 ERA. Next up for Davies will be a tough matchup versus the San Francisco Giants on Sunday. Davies should be avoided in all matchups and remain on the waiver wire in all formats.

Wed Sep 1 202109:02Zach Davies Files Away Another Outing Under Five Innings
Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Zach Davies once again failed to get through five innings in Tuesday's no-decision versus the Minnesota Twins. The veteran allowed six hits, one run, zero walks and struck out three over 4 1/3 innings. Although his outing wasn't that bad, he continues to be unreliable with limited innings. For the season, Davies is 6-10 with an uninspiring 4.91 ERA. Next up will be a matchup versus a tough Cincinnati Reds offense on Monday. He can safely be ignored in all formats.

Wed Aug 25 202119:06Zach Davies Fails To Go Five Innings In Game 1 Of Doubleheader
Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Zach Davies once again failed to go five innings in Game 1 of Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Colorado Rockies. The veteran went 4 2/3 innings and allowed three hits, two runs, one walk and struck out six. Davies has had a rough season for the Cubs and his inability to go deep into games with a low strikeout rate has made him expendable in all formats. For the season, Davies is 6-10 with an ugly 5.00 ERA. Next up for the right-hander will be a date against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday. Even in a very favorable matchup, managers could shy away from the veteran.

Fri Aug 20 202117:51Zach Davies Racks Up Another Loss
Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Zach Davies fell to 6-10 with Friday's loss versus the Kansas City Royals. The veteran was able to go six innings in the contest, but allowed five hits, four runs, one walk and struck out five on the evening. All four runs given up were from home runs and Salvador Perez hit two of those himself. Davies continues to have a rough season for the struggling Cubs and his poor performance raised his ERA to 5.04. Next up for Davies will be a matchup versus a tough Chicago White Sox offense. The veteran should be avoided in that matchup and all formats moving forward.

Sat Aug 14 202122:23Zach Davies Tosses Six Innings In No-Decision
Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Zach Davies earned a quality start in Saturday's no-decision versus the Miami Marlins. Davies went six innings and allowed four hits, three runs (zero earned), one walk and struck out seven on the evening. The veteran has been inconsistent this year and this was just the seventh time on the season that he has gone six or more innings. Davies is 6-9 with a 5.00 ERA and can be avoided in all formats. Next up for the veteran will be a matchup versus the Kansas City Royals on Saturday.

Sun Aug 8 202123:55Zach Davies Suffers Ninth Loss
Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Zach Davies had a rough start in Sunday's loss versus the Chicago White Sox. Davies allowed three home runs and five runs in the top of the first inning and would finish with a line of seven hits, seven runs, one walk and two strikeouts in two innings. Davies has been having a rough season and is now 6-9 with an ugly 5.26 ERA. Davies will look for better results on Friday versus the Miami Marlins. Even in a favorable matchup, Davies should be avoided in all formats.

Tue Aug 3 202123:47Zach Davies Gets Lit Up On Tuesday
Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Zach Davies got crushed in Tuesday's loss versus the Colorado Rockies. Davies tossed four innings and allowed six innings, seven runs, two walks with one strikeout. Davies struggled overall, but all seven runs came on a grand slam by catcher Elias Diaz and a three-run homer by outfielder Sam Hilliard. Davies was rumored to be a trade candidate, but survived the deadline with the Cubs. Davies is now 6-8 with a 4.79 ERA and will face a tough White Sox lineup on Sunday. Davies doesn't offer managers any strikeout upside and should be avoided in all formats.

Thu Jul 29 202102:14Late-scratch Judge hits tiebreaking single for Yanks in 10th
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Aaron Judge went from being a late scratch to hitting a tiebreaking single in a two-run 10th inning to help the New York Yankees beat the Tampa Bay Rays for the second straight day, 3-1 on Wednesday night. Judge was taken out of the lineup about 30 minutes before the scheduled first pitch. Although no announcement was made about why, the All-Star right fielder struck out in the fifth pinch-hitting for Estevan Florial. Judge returned to the team Tuesday after going on the COVID-19 injured list July 16. New York also had a big night off the field. The Yankees reached a deal to get All-Star slugger Joey Gallo from the Texas Rangers, a person familiar with the trade told The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the move had not yet been announced and was subject to approval of medical records of the players involved. Greg Allen was hit by a pitch from Pete Fairbanks (3-4) leading off the 10th, putting runners on first and second. Judge... [More]
