Wed Jun 30 202120:21Dodgers transfer Seager to 60-day IL, add RHP Bobby Wahl
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Dodgers transferred infielder Corey Seager to the 60-day injured list on Wednesday. The move made room for right-hander Bobby Wahl on the 40-man roster. Seager fractured his right wrist on May 15 against Washington and has missed 40 games since going on the IL the next day. He batted .265 with four homers and 22 RBIs in 37 games before getting hurt. Seager was the MVP of last year’s World Series and NL Championship Series. The Dodgers claimed Wahl off waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers, where he spent parts of three seasons. He is 0-2 with a 7.63 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 17 career appearances for Oakland (2017), the New York Mets (2018) and the Brewers (2020). This season, Wahl has split time between Double-A Biloxi and Triple-A Nashville. He's allowed a combined 11 runs in 10 1/3 innings, with 11 strikeouts. The 29-year old right-hander is 9-8 with a 3.80 ERA and is 40 for 45 in save opportunities in 172 career minor league games. ___ More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports
Tue May 18 202116:58Brewers' Yelich returns from injured list to face Royals
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Milwaukee Brewers activated Christian Yelich from the injured list Tuesday and expect the two-time All-Star to play for just the second time in five weeks when they open a two-game interleague set in Kansas City. Yelich played nine games to start the season before leaving with stiffness in his lower back on April 11 in St. Louis. He tried to return on May 3 in Philadelphia but played just one game before returning to the injured list. “I'm just excited to be back in there and contribute at some level,” Yelich said. Brewers manager Craig Counsell said the 2018 National League MVP underwent some different training methods during his last IL stint and Yelich's back finally showed some improvement. He wound up playing three consecutive rehab games at Triple-A Nashville over the weekend, going 0 for 5 with a pair of walks while playing in the outfield. More importantly than the numbers, Yelich experienced none of the pain that has sidelined him for 31 games this season.... [More]
Tue Mar 16 202116:20Travis Shaw back with Brewers, competes for spot at 3B
Travis Shaw’s second stint with the Milwaukee Brewers is off to an encouraging start. The Brewers announced Tuesday they have added Shaw to their 40-man roster, making him one of the leading candidates for playing time at third base. Shaw, who played for Milwaukee from 2017-19 and spent last season with Toronto, signed a minor league deal last month. The contract included terms stating he could request his release if the Brewers didn’t notify him by Monday whether they intended to put him on the 40-man roster. “It’s pretty much everything I expected, pretty much everything they told me going into the process so nothing changes,” Shaw said Tuesday from the Brewers’ spring training site in Phoenix. “Nothing is surprising. It’s all in a good spot.” Shaw, who turns 31 on April 16, has a one-year contract paying him $1.5 million while in the majors and $250,000 in the minors. He can earn up to $1.5 million in performance bonuses for plate appearances: $50,000 each for 250, 275 and 300, $75,000... [More]

Wed Jul 29 202002:36Benches clear in testy rematch as Dodgers beat Astros 5-2
HOUSTON (AP) — Benches cleared Tuesday night during the Dodgers’ 5-2 victory over the Astros in the first game between the teams since it was revealed that Houston illegally stole signs en route to a 2017 championship that came at Los Angeles’ expense in the World Series. The fracas occurred after Dodgers reliever Joe Kelly threw high-and-tight pitches to Astros stars Alex Bregman and Carlos Correa in the sixth inning. Kelly threw an errant breaking ball over Correa’s head. Correa, who homered and finished with three hits, took off his batting helmet and stared Kelly down before continuing the at-bat. Kelly struck out Correa, then stuck out his tongue and made a face in his direction. Correa started walking toward him and the players exchanged words, prompting the benches to clear in the first such incident of this pandemic-delayed season. There was plenty of yelling and crowding — outlawed as MLB tries to play a 60-game season amid the pandemic — but no pushing or punches thrown.Order was... [More]

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Corey Knebel will decide on Friday what to do about his ailing right elbow, potentially sidelining a key part of Milwaukee's vaunted bullpen for the season. The 27-year-old has a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament. He could have Tommy John surgery and then return at some point next year, or try to rehab the injury."I've got all the cards on the table, and it's just, 'Which one?'" Knebel said before Milwaukee beat St. Louis 5-4 in its opener on Thursday. "It's not really anybody's decision but mine. But of course I'm going to talk to some of the doctors before I make a decision."Losing Knebel for the year could be a big blow for Milwaukee, which leaned on its bullpen in its run to the NL Championship Series last October.Jeremy Jeffress, another hard-throwing reliever who made the All-Star team last year, also began the season on the injured list after he was slowed by a sore right shoulder during spring training.
