Romero signed a minor league deal with the Athletics, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.
Romero had an impressive 2014 campaign, slashing .320/.417/.417 in 130 games for Double-A Bowie. He hasn't appeared in the majors since 2010, so the 29-year-old will likely just serve as organizational depth for Oakland.

Romero, 25, was called up from Triple-A Pawtucket just a few days ago but made only four at-bats. He was hitting .268/.346/.351 down on the farm and could pass through waivers and remain in the Red Sox's system.

Red Sox purchased the contract of infielder Niuman Romero from Triple-A Pawtucket.
Romero, who made his major league debut with the Indians last September, was hitting .268/.346/.351 for Pawtucket. He'll replace utilityman Angel Sanchez, who was traded to the Astros for Kevin Cash.

Romero, a 25-year-old Venezuelan, batted .240/.306/.292 with a home run, 35 RBI and 13 stolen bases in 119 games between Double-A and Triple-A last season. He will probably head straight to Triple-A Pawtucket but is unlikely to have a major impact for the Red Sox this year.
