Wed Apr 2416:01Cody Bellinger Heads To Injured List With Rib Fracture
Chicago Cubs outfielder Cody Bellinger (rib) has been placed on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday due to a right-rib fracture that he suffered on Tuesday when he crashed into the outfield wall at Wrigley Field, according to manager Craig Counsell. Prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong is being called up from the minors in a corresponding move. Initial X-rays turned up negative on Bellinger, but a CT scan found the fracture, which will cause the 28-year-old to miss at least several weeks. In the meantime, Bellinger should be stashed in an IL spot in all fantasy leagues. He's currently hitting .226 (19-for-84) with five home runs and 17 RBI in the first 22 games. Crow-Armstrong could see regular playing time as Chicago's center fielder until Bellinger is able to return, making him an attractive short-term waiver-wire pickup in single-year leagues.

Wed Apr 2412:03X-Rays On Cody Bellinger Come Back Negative
Chicago Cubs manager Craig Counsell said that X-rays on outfielder Cody Bellinger (rib) were negative, but the team has to see how he is on Wednesday before they can determine how long he might be out. Bellinger left Tuesday's game early with a right-rib contusion not long after he ran into the wall in center field at Wrigley Field tracking a ball down. Fantasy managers will want to check back to see if Bellinger is in the lineup against the Houston Astros on Wednesday, but most likely he will not be, and he could miss more time beyond that. For now, consider the 28-year-old lefty hitter to be day-to-day. Rookie outfielder Alexander Canario replaced Bellinger in center field on Tuesday night and could see more playing time there moving forward if Bellinger is forced to miss time.

Tue Apr 2321:56Cody Bellinger Exits After Hitting Outfield Wall
Chicago Cubs outfielder Cody Bellinger exited Tuesday's game versus the Houston Astros with an apparent injury after crashing into the wall in center field. Bellinger hit the wall hard tracking down a Yainer Diaz double in the fourth inning, and the center fielder was later seen holding his right side in the dugout. Bellinger remained in the game all the way up until the seventh frame before he was removed for Alexander Canario, so his departure could very well be a precautionary measure. The Cubs should provide a clearer picture on the 28-year-old All-Star slugger's health following the contest, and he should be deemed day-to-day ahead of the second game of the series on Wednesday. After clubbing a two-run home run on Tuesday, Bellinger is up to a .226/.320/.440 triple-slash line with five homers, 17 RBI, and 10 runs scored in 84 at-bats (22 games).

Wed Apr 309:30Cody Bellinger Crushes First Homer Of 2024
Chicago Cubs outfielder Cody Bellinger went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and two RBI in Tuesday's victory against the Colorado Rockies. Bellinger blasted his first homer of the year off Anthony Molina in the bottom of the seventh and it was a no doubter. The slugger had a strong 2023 in a prove it year for the Cubs and there is no reason that managers shouldn't expect him to put up similar numbers in 2024 as he remains in the heart of the lineup for the Cubs. Bellinger will look to keep it cooking versus Cal Quantrill in Wednesday's series finale.

Mon Mar 418:14Cody Bellinger To Make Cactus League Debut Wednesday
Chicago Cubs outfielder Cody Bellinger is scheduled to make his Cactus League debut on Wednesday and serve as the designated hitter. He will likely make his first spring start in the outfield on either Friday or Saturday. Bellinger didn't re-sign with the Cubs until recently, so he's behind in spring training and will start ramping up in games this week. It sill gives the 28-year-old former National League MVP several weeks to get ready for Opening Day, but don't be surprised if he gets out of the gates slow this year as a result. While he can also fill in at first base, most of his playing time will come as Chicago's starting center fielder. RotoBaller has Bellinger ranked as the No. 15 fantasy outfielder after a big bounce-back season in 2023 in which he hit .356 with 26 homers, 97 RBI and 20 steals in 130 games for the Cubbies. He cut his strikeout rate down, which was nice, but a career-high .319 BABIP could be a sign of regression in the average department in 2024.

Sun Feb 2506:40Cody Bellinger Heading Back To The Cubs
Free agent outfielder Cody Bellinger and the Chicago Cubs agreed on a three-year, $80 million contract on Sunday. The contract also includes opt-outs after each of the deal's first two years. This is excellent news for dynasty managers and those who took Bellinger in earlier fantasy drafts. After struggling with the Dodgers in 2021 and 2022, Bellinger bounced back with the Cubs last season. Despite missing a month due to a knee injury, the 28-year-old slashed .307/.356/.525 with 26 home runs, 97 RBI, 95 runs, and 20 stolen bases over 556 plate appearances in 130 games. The former National League MVP will look to build on his 2023 campaign and is expected to hit cleanup for the Cubs in 2024. Bellinger is a solid pick at his current ADP of 53 in NFBC leagues, but that number could rise with the latest news of him returning to Chicago.

Mon Feb 1914:18Cubs Haven't Had Real Negotiations With Cody Bellinger Yet
Chicago Cubs owner Tom Ricketts said there have been "some discussions," but they haven't become a "negotiation" yet to re-sign outfielder Cody Bellinger. "We're just waiting, waiting for whenever he and his agent are going to engage. And it could be anytime now, or it could be a few weeks, we'll just see where it goes," Ricketts said. The Cubs have some interest in bringing the 28-year-old lefty slugger back on a cheaper, short-term deal, but it's unclear if Bellinger's agent, Scott Boras, is interested in that. The former MVP bounced back in a big way for the Cubbies last year, hitting .307/.356/.525 with 26 home runs, 97 RBI, 20 stolen bases and 95 runs scored despite missing a month with a knee injury. Bellinger cut his strikeout rate but had a fortunate BABIP and didn't hit the ball all that hard, pointing to potential regression in 2024.

Tue Dec 5 202313:18Mariners Considering Cody Bellinger
The Seattle Mariners are considering free-agent outfielder/first baseman Cody Bellinger among their free-agent options this offseason. MLB Network's Jon Morosi believes Bellinger is going to be one of the highest-paid free-agent position players this winter outside of two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani. The Mariners cleared payroll space and a spot in their outfield when they traded Jarred Kelenic to the Atlanta Braves on Sunday night, potentially opening up a spot for Bellinger on their roster. Bellinger lives in the Phoenix area and the Mariners train there, so it could be a great fit. The 28-year-old left-handed slugger had a dynamic all-around year for the Cubs in 2023 in a huge bounce-back season after several down years to close out his tenure with the Dodgers. The Giants and Blue Jays are a couple other teams to watch in the Bellinger sweepstakes this week.

Wed Nov 29 202300:18Cody Bellinger Earns NL Comeback Player Of The Year Award
Free-agent first baseman/outfielder Cody Bellinger was named the 2023 National League Comeback Player of the Year Tuesday. After winning the 2017 NL Rookie of the Year Award and the 2019 NL MVP, the 28-year-old struggled mightily offensively through the 2020 through 2022 seasons. However, he looked like his old self in 2023 with the Cubs, slashing .307/.356/.525 with 26 home runs, 97 RBI, and 20 stolen bases. He will now likely be rewarded further with a lucrative contract this offseason, and his landing spot could impact his projected fantasy value. Regardless of where he ends up, it will be interesting to see how much fantasy managers trust him to repeat his 2023 performance.

Mon Nov 13 202315:40Yankees Serious About Cody Bellinger
The New York Yankees are one of the most serious suitors for free-agent outfielder/first baseman Cody Bellinger so far this offseason, and MLB Network's Jon Morosi expects that will remain the case as the offseason unfolds. The Chicago Cubs, Yankees and San Francisco Giants are the three teams believed to be the most interested in signing Bellinger after a big bounce-back season he had for the Cubbies in 2023. The Yankees could really use some left-handed power bats in their lineup. Aside from two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani, Bellinger is the best position player available on the open market this winter. The 28-year-old was the National League MVP in 2019 with the Los Angeles Dodgers but then fell apart from 2020-22 before rebounding to the tune of a .307/.356/.525 slash line with an .881 OPS, 26 homers, 97 RBI and 20 steals in 130 games for the Cubs in 2023.

Tue Nov 7 202316:26Cubs Extend Qualifying Offer To Cody Bellinger
The Chicago Cubs formally extended a $20.325 million qualifying offer to outfielder Cody Bellinger, ensuring they'll receive draft-pick compensation if he signs with another team this offseason. Bellinger became a free agent when he declined his end of a $12.5 million mutual option for 2024. The 2019 National League MVP had a big-time bounce-back season with the Cubbies in 2023 after hitting just .193/.256/.355 for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2021-22. The 28-year-old left-handed slugger hit .307 with 26 home runs, 97 RBI, 20 stolen bases and an .881 OPS in 130 games. Bellinger will have no shortage of suitors after returning to MVP form this year, and he also played well defensively in center field for the Cubs on top of his offensive exploits.

Fri Nov 3 202319:49Cody Bellinger Declines Mutual 2024 Option
Outfielder/first baseman Cody Bellinger will be heading into free agency in 2024 after he declined his mutual option with the Chicago Cubs. Bellinger receives a $5 million buyout. Bellinger resurrected his career in Chicago this year and heads into free agency at 28. His .307/.356/.525 slash line with 26 home runs and 20 steals, combined with 95 runs and 97 RBI will make him a hot commodity in free agency and next season for fantasy purposes as a five-category contributor.

Wed Sep 6 202321:22Cody Bellinger Homers Again Wednesday
Chicago Cubs outfielder/first baseman Cody Bellinger went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBI, and his 24th home run in a win over the San Francisco Giants Wednesday afternoon. Bellinger's OPS now sits at .920 and has played like a borderline top-five outfielder this season and may only be behind Freddie Freeman at first base in many fantasy leagues. To say he's having a rebound season is a complete understatement. With four homers and nine RBI through seven September games, Bellinger is showing no signs of slowing down and could be a part of many championship teams in the next few weeks.

Sun Aug 27 202316:28Cody Bellinger Leads Cubs To Victory With Five RBI
Chicago Cubs outfielder Cody Bellinger has continued his career resurrection as he totaled five RBI in Sunday's win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Bellinger went 3-for-5 with two runs and two doubles. The five RBI was half of Chicago's 10-1 win. Hitting .321 with a .914 OPS for a hot team, Bellinger should continue to be a fantasy star the rest of the way. That makes 10 RBI over five games for Bellinger and 75 on the season.

Sun Aug 20 202310:51Cody Bellinger Adds Two Homers To Resurgence In Win
Chicago Cubs first baseman/outfielder Cody Bellinger went 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI in Saturday's 6-4 win over the Kansas City Royals. The 28-year-old went the other way twice in this one, first bopping a two-run homer to the opposite field in the first inning. The lefty-hitting Bellinger then banged another HR to deep left center in the third frame. He also hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Chicago's sixth and final run of the game. Bellinger's long-awaited career renaissance has been on full display during the season's second half. In 42 games since June 30, the former NL MVP is hitting a white-hot .391 (63-for-161) with 11 long balls, 37 RBI, and seven stolen bases to spearhead on MVP-caliber campaign overall.

Sun Jul 30 202313:00Cubs Telling Teams They Won't Trade Cody Bellinger
The Chicago Cubs are telling teams that outfielder Cody Bellinger won't be traded by Tuesday's deadline, according to sources familiar with the situation. The Cubs instead will be looking to add relief help after winning eight games in a row heading into Sunday's contest against the St. Louis Cardinals. Chicago is now 3.5 games behind the first-place Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Central and just three games out of the final wild card spot. The 28-year-old Bellinger is having a resurgent season with a .315/.368/.540 slash line. Since the All-Star break, he has a 1.140 OPS and has been playing great defense in center field and first base. Fantasy managers need to keep riding the hot hand.

Wed Jul 26 202312:16Marlins Looking At Cody Bellinger
The Miami Marlins are among the teams looking at Chicago Cubs outfielder Cody Bellinger as the Aug. 1 trade deadline quickly approaches. However, the Cubs have a better chance of reaching the postseason than the Marlins due, according to the latest Baseball Reference projections. It remains to be seen if the Cubs will even be sellers at this point as they currently stand six games out of the National League Central lead behind the Milwaukee Brewers and Cincinnati Reds. They are five games out of a wild-card spot. Bellinger, a former MVP and Rookie of the Year, has had a resurgence in Chicago in 2023, hitting .314/.363/.540 with a .903 OPS, 14 home runs, 15 doubles, a triple, 45 RBI, 12 stolen bases and 53 runs scored in 69 games. A move to Miami might actually be bad news for his fantasy value the rest of the way in 2023.
