Tue Apr 2316:15Jonah Heim Back From Bereavement List
The Texas Rangers activated catcher Jonah Heim from the bereavement list on Tuesday and optioned catcher Sam Huff to Triple-A Round Rock after Sunday's game in a corresponding move. Heim will be back behind the dish to catch right-hander Dane Dunning on Tuesday while hitting eighth in the batting order against the visiting Seattle Mariners and right-hander Logan Gilbert. The left-handed-hitting backstop has a .300 average with a home run and four RBI in 20 career at-bats against Gilbert, so fantasy managers will surely want to get him back into their starting lineups right away. Heim has been decent at the plate to start the year, too, going 19-for-72 (.264) with three home runs, 15 RBI, one stolen base and seven runs scored in 18 games played.

Tue Apr 1610:24Jonah Heim Gets Day Off
Texas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim will get a routine day off on Tuesday versus the Detroit Tigers. With the Rangers playing last night, Heim will get the afternoon to rest his knees. Heim has been off to a nice start this season with a .271 batting average to go along with two homers and 11 RBI as part of a strong Texas Rangers lineup. In place of Heim on Tuesday with be backup catcher Andrew Knizner. Knizner is hitless in 11 at-bats this season and can be avoided against Casey Mize and the Tigers. Heim should return to the lineup on Wednesday.

Wed Feb 2116:44Jonah Heim Won't Make Spring Debut Until Feb. 28
Texas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim won't make his first Cactus League start until Feb. 28. Heim isn't injured, but the Rangers are giving him extra recovery time this spring after a long season in 2023 that culminated in the franchise's first-ever World Series championship. There's no need for the Rangers to rush Heim into Cactus League action with games kicking off this weekend. The 28-year-old switch-hitting backstop made his first All-Star team in 2023 and hit .258/.317/.438 with a career-high 18 home runs, 28 doubles, 95 RBI and 61 runs scored in 131 games for the Rangers in the regular season. In an effort to give Heim more days off early on in 2024, the Rangers may keep three catchers on the major-league roster. Although he's almost 30, Heim is a top-15 fantasy backstop.

Fri Oct 20 202314:09Jonah Heim Moved Down To Nine-Hole In Game 5
Texas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim has been demoted to the bottom of the lineup for Friday night's ALCS Game 5 matchup with the Houston Astros and right-hander Justin Verlander. Indeed, Heim will catch and hit ninth on Friday in the midst of a slump that has seen him go just 2-for-14 so far in the ALCS, although one of his hits went for a home run. Nonetheless, Heim is hitting just .200 with one home run and a .549 OPS across 38 plate appearances in the postseason altogether. While he began the playoffs with a seven-game hitting streak, he has yet to record a multi-hit game while his home run is his lone extra-base hit in the postseason.

Mon Sep 18 202318:13Jonah Heim Back At It Monday
Texas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim is back in the starting lineup Monday versus the Boston Red Sox and right-hander Kutter Crawford. Heim took a seat for Sunday's series finale against the Cleveland Guardians but will return to the lineup out of the seven-hole Monday at home. A first-time All-Star this season, Heim has struggled mightily since the Midsummer Classic. After hitting .282 with an .812 OPS in the season's first half, the 28-year-old has hit just .214 with a .658 OPS across 37 second-half games, although a wrist injury could very well be the culprit of his second-half struggles. That said, he has two homers, a double and eight RBI over his last six games and should remain a top-tier fantasy backstop into the 2024 campaign.

Sat Aug 26 202318:24Jonah Heim Remains On The Bench
Texas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim is out of Saturday's starting lineup against the Minnesota Twins. This marks the second day in a row that Heim has been on the bench. The switch-hitter has gone 2-for-24 at the plate since returning from his wrist injury. There is no indication that the wrist injury is still bothering Heim right now. This appears to be just a few rest days in order to get Heim back on track. In the meantime, Mitch Garver will cover behind the plate and bat fifth versus right-hander Joe Ryan on Saturday. Fantasy managers will have to check back for another update on Heim's status.

Fri Aug 25 202317:39Jonah Heim Getting A Breather Against Twins
Texas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim is starting Friday's contest against the Minnesota Twins on the bench. Austin Hedges will do the catching for Texas and will hit in the nine-hole against Twins right-hander Sonny Gray. It's quite possible that Heim is still bothered by a left-wrist injury that caused him to miss around a month of action. Since returning from the injured list on Aug. 13, he's gone 2-for-24 with no home runs or RBI, eight strikeouts and one run scored in eight games (seven starts). Overall this year, though, Heim has been useful in single-catcher leagues for his power. He currently has 14 home runs, 70 RBI, 50 runs scored and a .267/.325/.452 slash line in 352 at-bats. Hedges will be one to avoid in DFS on Friday at the catcher position.

Mon Aug 14 202317:42Jonah Heim Gets A Breather Against Angels
Texas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim will be given the day off on Monday against the division-rival Los Angeles Angels. Heim just returned from the injured list due to a torn tendon sheath in his wrist on Sunday, so the Rangers are going to ease him back into starting catching duties. Mitch Garver will catch right-hander Max Scherzer on Monday and will hit fifth against Angels left-hander Patrick Sandoval. Heim went 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout in his first game back on Sunday, and the 28-year-old switch-hitting catcher is now batting .278/.336/.474 on the season with an .810 OPS, 14 home runs, 70 RBI and 49 runs scored in 331 at-bats. Heim has been plenty valuable in single-catcher leagues as a first-time All-Star in 2023.

Sun Aug 13 202314:00Jonah Heim Activated From The Injured List, Starting On Sunday
Texas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim has been activated from the 10-day injured list and is starting on Sunday. This one came out of left field as Heim is dealing with a torn left wrist tendon that had the potential to end his season. He took some batting practice earlier in the week and apparently feels ready to give it a go on Sunday. He's starting behind the plate and batting fifth against Logan Webb and the San Francisco Giants. Heim was putting together a phenomenal season before getting hurt. He's slashing .280/.337/.479 with 14 home runs, 70 RBI, and two stolen bases over 328 at-bats. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect the same type of production, however, as he's playing with the injury to his wrist.

Fri Aug 11 202319:34Jonah Heim Takes Batting Practice Friday
Texas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim (wrist) took live batting practice on the field at Oracle Park on Friday before the game against the San Francisco Giants. Heim continues to take batting practice this week and is healing nicely from a partially torn tendon sheath in his left wrist. Barring a setback this weekend, the 28-year-old switch-hitting backstop could return early next week for the Rangers. When he does return, he should resume primary catching duties behind the plate in Texas. Heim made his first All-Star team this year and is hitting .280/.337/.479 with an .816 OPS, 14 home runs, 70 RBI and 49 runs scored in 90 games. He's been extremely valuable in fantasy at a weak catcher position. Mitch Garver will continue to see more starts behind the plate until Heim is back.

Wed Aug 9 202312:30Jonah Heim Takes Batting Practice
Texas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim (wrist) took batting practice on Tuesday for the first time since he suffered a torn tendon sheath in his left wrist. The 28-year-old left-handed-hitting backstop also caught a bullpen session. Manager Bruce Bochy said it's possible that Heim will face live pitching as early as Monday, and he could return from the injured list to rejoin the active roster during the club's six-game homestand that starts next week. Heim is making great progress from a pretty serious injury, but he's expected to only hit from the left side once he returns. He's shown more power from the left side (13 of his 14 home runs), but he's been better from the right side average-wise (.324) than the left side (.269). Regardless, Heim should return to primary catching duties in Texas when he's healthy.

Tue Aug 8 202308:18Jonah Heim Hitting Off The Tee
Texas Rangers backstop Jonah Heim (wrist) caught a side session and began hitting off a tee on Monday, according to MLB.com. The 28-year-old hit the injured list in late July after sustaining a left wrist tendon sprain. Heim is expected to be out until at least mid-August. Over 90 games before the injury, the 2023 All-Star slashed .280/.337/.479 with 14 homers, 49 runs, 70 RBI, and two stolen bases. That kind of production is rare from the catching position, so fantasy managers should want Heim back as soon as possible.

Fri Jul 28 202319:35Jonah Heim Lands On Injured List
The Texas Rangers placed catcher Jonah Heim (wrist) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to July 27) on Friday with a left wrist tendon strain. In corresponding moves, the team activated right-hander Josh Sborz (biceps) from the 15-day injured list, recalled outfielder Bubba Thompson from Triple-A Round Rock and optioned right-hander Owen White to Round Rock. Heim will attempt to rest for two to three weeks, but there's a chance he'll need season-ending surgery eventually. It's a major blow to the Rangers and fantasy managers, as the 28-year-old All-Star backstop is having a breakout year with a .280/.337/.479 slash line, 14 home runs and 70 RBI in 90 games. Mitch Garver and Sam Huff figure to split the catching duties while Heim heals up.

Wed Jul 26 202322:09Jonah Heim Leaves Early With Wrist Soreness
Texas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim (wrist) left Wednesday's game early against the Houston Astros with left-wrist soreness. Heim will continue to be evaluated, so consider him day-to-day for now and check back Thursday morning for an update on his condition. The injury occurred on a swing from Heim in the fourth inning. It would be a tough break for the Rangers and fantasy managers alike if the 28-year-old All-Star catcher is forced to miss significant time due to the injury. Texas has an off day on Thursday, but it remains to be seen if Heim will be ready to return on Friday against the San Diego Padres. If Heim has to miss any time, Mitch Garver should see most of the starts behind the plate for the Rangers.

Mon Jul 17 202317:55Jonah Heim Gets A Breather On Monday
Texas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim and outfielder Travis Jankowski will both be rested on Monday against the Tampa Bay Rays with left-hander Shane McClanahan on the mound in the series opener. Mitch Garver will do the catching and bat sixth, while Ezequiel Duran will start in left field and hit eighth. Robbie Grossman is the designated hitter and is batting seventh for Texas. Heim will get a break after catching all three games of the weekend series against the Cleveland Guardians. The 28-year-old switch-hitting backstop went 4-for-11 in those three games and is batting a strong .285 (86-for-302) on the year with 13 home runs, 21 doubles, 63 RBI and 46 runs scored in 82 games. The first-time All-Star has been extremely valuable at the shallow catching position in fantasy this year as the Rangers' primary catcher.

Sat Jul 15 202309:42Jonah Heim Homers, Drives In Four On Friday
Texas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim went 3-for-5 with a double, a homer, two runs, and four RBI in a 12-4 win over the Cleveland Guardians on Friday. Heim ripped a solo homer to center field in the eighth inning. The blast traveled 419 feet and had an exit velocity of 103.4 MPH. Heim is putting together a career year for the Rangers, slashing .287/.342/.490 with 21 doubles, 13 homers, 45 runs, 63 RBI, and two steals over 296 at-bats. He has been red-hot of late, hitting .340 with three homers in his past 15 contests.

Thu Jun 29 202312:16Jonah Heim Getting A Breather Against Tigers
Texas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim will be given the day off on Thursday against the Detroit Tigers. Heim will get a day to rest after serving as the starting catcher for each of the team's last five games. He went 6-for-19 (.316) in those five contests with a homer, RBI, double and a run scored in 21 plate appearances. The 28-year-old switch-hitting backstop has been one of the better offensive catchers for fantasy managers so far in 2023, as he's slashing .279/.331/.469 with an .800 OPS, 11 home runs, 17 doubles, 55 RBI and 39 runs scored in 284 plate appearances and 71 games. He's five homers shy of the career-high 16 homers he hit in 2022. Mitch Garver is doing the catching and batting eighth on Thursday against Tigers right-hander Reese Olson.

Sat May 13 202313:57Jonah Heim Not In The Lineup On Saturday
Texas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim is not in the lineup on Saturday against the Oakland Athletics. This looks to just be a routine day off for the 27-year-old backstop who has been one of the most effective fantasy catchers of the young season. He's slashing a robust .319/.379/.546 with six home runs, 29 RBI, and one stolen base over 119 at-bats. He put up a career-high 16 home runs and 48 RBI last season so it's reasonable to expect that he'll eclipse those numbers here in 2023. Sandy Leon is starting behind the dish on Saturday in Heim's place but fantasy managers should expect him to return to the lineup for Sunday's series finale.

Sat Apr 22 202310:21Jonah Heim Goes Deep In Losing Effort
Texas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim went 1-for-3 with a home run, three RBI, a run scored, a walk and a strikeout in the team's 5-4 loss to the Oakland Athletics on Friday night. Heim has now hit three-run homers in back-to-back games for the Rangers, and he's now hitting .313 (15-for-48) with two doubles, four home runs, 14 RBI and 12 runs scored in 56 plate appearances in his first 14 games of the 2023 campaign. The 27-year-old backstop will continue to split time with Sandy Leon behind the plate in Texas with Mitch Garver (knee) on the injured list, but Heim is by far the superior offensive option for fantasy managers. Heim is the team's primary catcher over the offensively challenged Leon.

Wed Mar 22 202320:19Jonah Heim To Serve As Primary Catcher
Texas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim is expected to serve as the primary catcher in 2023. Mitch Garver will shadow Heim as the backup, but the Rangers are being cautious considering Garver's injury history. Once Garver was knocked out for the season due to a forearm injury last July, 27-year-old Heim went on an offensive tear. He slashed .262/.313/.467 with a .781 OPS. His bat took a heavy detour in the second half and managed to post a sloppy .181 clip. The Rangers are hoping that Heim can catch fire early in the season to get the most out of his bat. He is a solid option for fantasy managers, especially if he solidifies his offensive numbers.
