The 22-year-old has struggled to keep the ball in the park and go deep into outings, but he's at least shown some ability to miss big-league bats. Given the Phillies' lack of talent, Gonzalez likely make more starts before the end of the season.

Gonzalez was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley prior to the second game of Sunday's doubleheader with the Nationals. He'll receive the start in Game 2.

As the Phillies' 26th man, Gonzalez is expected to be returned to Triple-A at the conclusion of the doubleheader. Gonzalez submitted a 8.69 ERA and 1.88 WHIP over his previous five starts with the Phillies this season.

With the roster expanding to allow for a 26th man for double headers, it appears Gonzalez will be on the move up to Philadelphia to make his sixth start at the major league level this season. He has been roughed up for an ERA of 8.69 over 19.2 innings of work in his five previous starts. The Phillies have yet to make the official roster move to recall Gonzalez, so check back ahead of game time Sunday before considering using him in a daily format.

Gonzalez is a candidate to take Jerome Williams' (hamstring) rotation spot and start Sunday for the Phillies, the Philadelphia Daily News reports.

Gonzalez last pitched on Tuesday, so he would be on regular rest if he gets the call. He is 0-2 with a 3.86 ERA and a 6:4 K:BB ratio in 9.1 innings since he was optioned back to Triple-A earlier this month. Adam Morgan is the other candidate to make the start Sunday.

For now though, his next scheduled start comes on Friday in Pittsburgh.

Gonzalez will make his next start Saturday against the Giants, the Phillies' official site reports.

Gonzalez had his last start skipped as the Phillies were able to keep their other starters on regular rest due to a couple of off-days. Gonzalez will face off against Madison Bumgarner on Saturday. He is 2-1 with a 6.88 ERA and a 13:3 K:BB ratio in 17 innings this season.

Gonzalez will have his next turn in the rotation skipped, Jake Kaplan of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Gonzalez was scheduled to pitch Sunday, but the Phillies will go with Jerome Williams instead. Gonzalez will likely make his next start against the Giants next week.
