Sun Sep 3 202313:37Willi Castro Activated From The Injured List
Minnesota Twins infielder/outfielder Willi Castro (oblique) has been activated from the 10-day injured list on Sunday. The 26-year-old utility man has been out for nearly a month with a left oblique strain but he was activated ahead of Sunday's contest against the Texas Rangers with outfielder Michael A. Taylor (hamstring) being placed on the IL in a corresponding move. Castro is slashing .241/.322/.371 with five home runs, 26 RBI, and 29 stolen bases over 278 at-bats this season. He's been a solid source of steals for fantasy purposes but his value is depressed due to the fact he doesn't play every day.

Sat Sep 2 202310:57Willi Castro On The Verge Of Returning
Minnesota Twins super utility man Willi Castro (oblique) is likely to join the team in Texas against the Rangers this weekend, and could be activated by Sunday. The 26-year-old returned home from his rehab assignment at Triple-A St. Paul for the birth of his daughter on Thursday, so Castro should be ready to go from a health perspective. The speedy infielder/outfielder hit the injured list on Aug. 15 due to a left oblique strain, but he's already played a few rehab games. Castro can defend virtually the entire diamond, but is unlikely to play every day due to his limitations outside of speed. The switch-hitter is batting .241 (67-for-278) with five home runs, 26 RBI, and 29 stolen bases overall and is worth a look for the steals, which rank fifth in the American League.

Fri Aug 25 202308:33Willi Castro Beginning Rehab Assignment Friday
Minnesota Twins utility man Willi Castro (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment on Friday with Triple-A St. Paul, according to MLB.com, and is on route to return in late August or early September. The 26-year-old has been on the injured list since earlier this month after suffering a mild left oblique strain. Across 101 contests this season, Castro's slashing .241/.322/.371 with five homers, 42 runs, 26 RBI, and 29 steals. Baserunning is the only thing keeping the fifth-year player relevant in fantasy leagues, and fantasy managers should only roster him in deeper formats once he's back.

Tue Aug 15 202316:07Twins Place Willi Castro On Injured List
The Minnesota Twins placed second baseman Willi Castro (oblique) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to Aug. 12) on Tuesday with a mild left-oblique strain and activated infielder/outfielder Royce Lewis (oblique) from the injured list in a corresponding move. Castro will have a chance to return to the Twins in a week's time because it's a mild injury. The 26-year-old utility man is pretty much only valuable in fantasy leagues for his speed, as he's stolen 29 bases on the year. In 278 at-bats for the Twins this year, Castro is slashing .241/.322/.371 with five home runs, 26 RBI and 42 runs scored in 101 games in his first year in Minnesota.

Mon Aug 14 202312:23Willi Castro Day-To-Day With Back Tightness
Minnesota Twins utility man Willi Castro (back) is being listed as day-to-day with back tightness after he was a late scratch from Saturday night's lineup against the Philadelphia Phillies. Castro had his back tighten up on him on Friday. "We're still assessing it," manager Rocco Baldelli said. "He took a couple of swings today and didn't feel great. We're going to just see how a day-to-day approach applies with him." The 26-year-old sat out of the series finale on Sunday against the Phillies, but he could return for a series opener on Tuesday against the Detroit Tigers after getting another day to rest on Monday during the team's scheduled off day. Castro has been useful with a career-high 29 stolen bases in his first year in Minnesota, but otherwise he's hitting .241 (67-for-278) with five homers, 26 RBI and 42 runs scored in 101 games.

Mon Jul 24 202314:43Joey Gallo, Willi Castro Back In Lineup Against Mariners
Minnesota Twins outfielder Joey Gallo (eye) is starting in center field and batting in the nine-hole for the Twins on Monday against right-hander Luis Castillo and the Seattle Mariners. Infielder Willi Castro (eye) is also back in the lineup, starting at third base and batting sixth. Both Gallo and Castro are returning from a bout with conjunctivitis, and it's Gallo's first appearance in a starting role since last Thursday. Gallo's all-or-nothing approach continues, as he's gone just 4-for-35 (.114) in 16 games in the month of July, although three of his hits cleared the fences. Castro, a 26-year-old Puerto Rican switch-hitter, has been useful to fantasy managers in 2023 for his speed. He's currently hitting .246/.320/.366 with five homers, 21 RBI, 23 steals and 36 runs scored in 224 at-bats.

Sat Jul 22 202316:43Joey Gallo, Willi Castro Remain Out On Saturday
Minnesota Twins outfielders Joey Gallo (eye) and Willi Castro (eye) will both be held out of Saturday's starting lineup against the Chicago White Sox. The two sluggers missed Friday's contest and will sit again due to pink eye. The assumption is that neither player will need a trip to the injured list and should return within the next few days. In the meantime, Michael A. Taylor and Michael Wallner will both patrol in the outfield versus right-hander Dylan Cease on Saturday.

Fri Jul 21 202318:21Willi Castro Scratched On Friday
Minnesota Twins infielder Willi Castro (eye) has been scratched ahead of Friday's game against the Chicago White Sox. The 26-year-old was pulled out of the lineup due to conjunctivitis. Luckily, it seems like a minor issue, so it should only hold him out for a few days. In the meantime, Donovan Solano will cover third base and bat seventh versus right-hander Lance Lynn on Friday. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups accordingly with Castro sidelined.

Thu Jun 8 202312:17Willi Castro Hitting Leadoff Against Rays
Minnesota Twins infielder Willi Castro is starting at second base and is batting leadoff for the team on Thursday against Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Yonny Chirinos. Castro is starting for the sixth straight game for Minnesota, but he'll be bumped up to the top spot in the order for this one. Jorge Polanco will serve as the designated hitter and bat third in the order. Castro has gone 3-for-19 (.158) with a homer, two RBI and eight strikeouts in six games so far in the month of June, so it's not exactly like he's tearing the cover off the baseball of late. He'll have some sleeper DFS appeal in the leadoff spot, but he doesn't have much upside for anything besides stolen bases. The 26-year-old Puerto Rican is hitting .256 (32-for-125) with five homers, 12 RBI and 11 steals on the season.

Sat Dec 31 202211:11Willi Castro Signs Minor-League Deal With Twins
The Minnesota Twins signed free-agent infielder Willi Castro to a minor-league deal on Friday that includes an invitation to major-league spring training. Castro can play pretty much all over the diamond, but he spent most of his time in 2022 with the Detroit Tigers in the outfield. He finished the year hitting .241/.284/.367 with a .651 OPS, eight home runs, 31 RBI, 47 runs scored and nine stolen bases in 392 plate appearances and 112 games for Detroit. The 25-year-old won't be assured a major-league roster spot out of spring training, but he should see time at the big-league level with the Twins at some point as a utility bat.

Thu Sep 29 202217:04Willi Castro Done For The Season
Detroit Tigers infielder/outfielder Willi Castro (hamstring) is done for the rest of the season due to a left hamstring injury. Zack Short, Daz Cameron, Josh Lester, Brendon Davis and Luis Garcia are the on-roster candidates to replace Castro for the conclusion of the 2022 regular season. Castro was forced to leave Thursday's game early against the Kansas City Royals with a strained left hamstring. The 25-year-old utility man will finish his season with a .237/.280/.353 slash line, seven home runs, 30 RBI, 46 runs scored and nine stolen bases in 390 plate appearances over 111 games for Detroit.

Sun Apr 17 202211:30Tigers Recall Willi Castro
The Detroit Tigers recalled second baseman/outfielder Willi Castro from Triple-A Toledo on Sunday. Castro will give the Tigers some extra infield insurance after shortstop Javier Baez (thumb) landed on the injured list on Saturday. The 24-year-old could see some at-bats alongside Harold Castro at the 6 in some sort of platoon situation until Baez is healthy enough to return to the starting role. Castro, a switch-hitter, hit .220/.273/.351 with nine home runs, 38 RBI, 56 runs scored and nine stolen bases in 450 plate appearances over 125 games for Detroit last year. As long as Baez is out, he'll have some appeal in AL-only leagues as middle infield depth.

Mon Oct 4 202108:52Willi Castro Goes 3-For-4 With A Stolen Base In Finale
Detroit Tigers infielder Willi Castro helped lead the team to a 5-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox in the team's season finale on Sunday. He went 3-for-4 with a triple, a stolen base and a run scored in the game. The 24-year-old finished the season on a four-game hitting streak, but it was a disappointing season overall for him. He broke out to the tune of a .349/.381/.550 slash line during the COVID-shortened 2020 season. This year, however, he slashed just .220/.273/.351 and spent a stretch of the year at Triple-A. It's unlikely that he'll be a major part of the team's plans for next year.

Wed Aug 11 202107:09Willi Castro Drives In Three In Tuesday's Win
Detroit Tigers middle infielder Willi Castro had a strong offensive game in Tuesday's 9-4 win over the Baltimore Orioles. He went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, three RBI and a run scored. It was just his second multi-RBI game since mid-June. Castro has had a rough year at the plate. Over 90 games, he's slashing .214/.271/.354 with seven home runs, 34 RBI and 42 runs. It's been a big disappointment after he had a breakout 2020 campaign in which he slashed .349/.381/.550 with 6 home runs, 24 RBI and 21 runs in just 36 games. Castro should remain on waivers in all fantasy leagues at this point.

BOSTON (AP) — Rafael Devers hit two home runs, including a go-ahead blast in the fifth inning, to help the Boston Red Sox best New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole for the second straight time at Fenway Park in a 6-2 victory Friday night. The Red Sox maintained their one-game AL East lead over Tampa Bay and increased their lead to nine games over the third-place Yankees. Yacksel Rios (3-0) got the victory, pitching two scoreless innings to cap a strong night from the bullpen after starter Eduardo Rodriguez left in the second inning after experiencing migraine symptoms. Cole (10-5) started strong for New York, but was pulled after fiving innings, giving up three runs off six hits, striking out eight and walking two. Thu Jun 17 202102:08DeGrom pulled early, Mets bullpen finishes 6-3 win over Cubs
NEW YORK (AP) — Jacob deGrom was pulled from a second straight start with an arm injury, this time leaving after three perfect innings with right shoulder soreness, but the New York Mets bullpen stepped up to finish a three-hitter in a 6-3 win over the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday night. One start after being pulled from a gem against San Diego with flexor tendinitis in his right arm, deGrom went directly down the clubhouse tunnel after finishing the third against the Cubs. DeGrom said initial tests ruled out a serious issue, but he planned to get imaging and more observation Thursday. The right-hander struck out eight of the nine batters he faced and lowered his ERA to 0.54. Sean Reid-Foley (2-0) relieved deGrom and allowed one run over two innings. Anthony Rizzo ended the bid for a combined perfect game or no-hitter by homering with one out in the fourth. Kevin Pillar opened the scoring with an RBI double off Robert Stock (0-1) in the second and homered in the fifth. GIANTS 13, DIAMONDBACKS... [More]
