Sun Jun 5 202214:13Cole Tucker Claimed By The Diamondbacks
Former Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Cole Tucker has been claimed by the Arizona Diamondbacks. The 25-year-old Tucker, who is a former first-round pick, was designated for assignment by the Pirates back on May 30. He's had a rough career at the major-league level, posting a subpar .211/.259/.314 triple-slash line to go along with five home runs, 35 RBI, and 129 strikeouts over 436 at-bats. He's still young enough to turn things around so perhaps the Diamondbacks see potential in him. Tucker is an Arizona native.

Tue Apr 26 202216:39Bryan Reynolds, Cole Tucker Land On COVID Injured List
The Pittsburgh Pirates placed outfielder Bryan Reynolds and shortstop Cole Tucker on the COVID-19 injured list ahead of Tuesday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers. Outfielder Jack Suwinski and second baseman Tucupita Marcano were called up from Triple-A in a corresponding move. No word has been given yet as to what caused Reynolds and Tucker to land on the COVID-19 injured list. Reynolds is of course the more notable member of the duo. The 27-year-old hit .302 with 24 home runs, 90 RBI and 93 runs last year. He's off to a slow start to the 2022 season, however, as he's slashing just .190/.266/.328 over 15 games.

Wed Sep 22 202112:07Cole Tucker Heading To The Bench On Wednesday
Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop/outfielder Cole Tucker is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against Luis Castillo and the Cincinnati Reds. Kevin Newman is getting the start at shortstop and batting seventh in the game. Tucker has been seeing regular playing time lately and has been producing well. He's currently riding a five-game hitting streak, during which he's notched two multi-hit efforts and tallied a total of four runs scored. He's slashing .263/.317/.351 over September as a whole. The 25-year-old still isn't doing enough overall to warrant fantasy consideration as he has no homers and just two stolen bases this month.

Wed Mar 24 202113:23Pirates LHP Brault shut down, RHP Cederlind has Tommy John
BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) — The Pittsburgh Pirates are shutting down left-handed starter Steven Brault for at least a month to address discomfort in his throwing shoulder. Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said it's likely Brault will be out for a minimum of 10 weeks. The team had expected Brault to be a part of a totally revamped starting rotation in 2021. Brault complained of tightness in his left arm after two innings of work last Friday in an exhibition game against Baltimore. Tomczyk says at the moment the team does not believe the 28-year-old Brault requires surgery, just rest. Brault went 1-1 with a 5.43 ERA in eight innings of work this spring. Brault won the Steve Blass Award given annually to the team's best pitcher last fall after going 1-3 with a 3.38 ERA in 11 appearances (10 starts). Who replaces Brault is unclear, though J.T. Brubaker is scheduled to start in Brault's spot this week. The Pirates also announced that hard-throwing right-handed reliever Blake Cederlind is out 14-16 months after undergoing Tommy John surgery on his right elbow. Pittsburgh also made a series of roster moves on Wednesday with opening day approaching. Shortstop Cole Tucker and pitchers Sean Poppen and Miguel Yajure were optioned while infielder Will Craig, catchers Joe Hudson and Andrew Susac and outfielder Troy Stokes Jr. were reassigned. ___ More AP MLB coverage: https://apnews.com/hub/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports
Thu Mar 4 202121:25Tall order; Pirates 6-7 prospect Cruz adjusting on the fly
Oneil Cruz insists he's a shortstop. One problem: genetics. The Dominican Republic native was 6-foot-1 or so 16-year-old when the Los Angeles Dodgers signed him. The tools — particularly the power and arm strength — were evident. So was the potential. That potential has only grown over the last half-decade plus. So too, however, has Cruz's frame. The 22-year-old has stretched out to 6 feet, 7 inches during his slow steady rise through Pittsburgh's system after being acquired as part of a trade that sent reliever Tony Watson to Los Angeles. And as much as he'd love to follow in the footsteps of the late Tony Fernandez and play shortstop in the big leagues, his body might not give him the chance. Fernandez, a five-time All-Star and a four-time Gold Glover winner during his 17 seasons, dazzled at the position at 6 feet, 2 inches. Cruz blew past that number long ago. “To this day I’m still praying that I stop growing,” Cruz said with a smile on Thursday. It might already be too late. While... [More]
Mon Feb 22 202116:44Pirates 2B Frazier focusing on the present, not the future
Adam Frazier spent the winter watching the Pittsburgh teammates he came up through the minors with get flipped for prospects or flat-out released. Josh Bell. Jameson Taillon. Trevor Williams. The Pirates parted ways with all of three and a handful of others during the offseason as part of a top-to-bottom organizational overhaul. Their exits left Frazier as the team's second-highest-paid player ($4.3 million) and conceivably its last major-league-ready trade chip. While Frazier wasn't exactly sitting by the phone expecting general manager Ben Cherington or Derek Shelton to tell him he was headed elsewhere, it did cross his mind. More than once. “I wouldn’t say waiting, but I obviously read the internet so I see things like that," Frazier said Monday after the Pirates participated in their first full-squad workout in Bradenton, Florida. “You never know what’s going to come. I try to stay in conversation with Cherington and Shelton and try to expect what may be coming. None of that’s really... [More]
