Sun Apr 10 202221:17Dwight Howard To Rest On Sunday
Los Angeles Lakers center Dwight Howard (rest) won't suit up for Sunday's game against the Denver Nuggets. The veteran big man will see his season come to an end as this contest is the regular season finale. The potential is there for Howard to be a fantasy contributor, but it needs to be the perfect role on the right team. Wenyen Gabriel will move into the starting five for Sunday's contest. He'll make his fifth start in the final game of the season. He recently signed a two-year deal and could have something to prove here. Gabriel might be an interesting fantasy option for Sunday's slate.

Tue Mar 29 202215:03Dwight Howard Probable For Tuesday
Los Angeles Lakers center Dwight Howard (hip) has been tagged as probable for Tuesday's game against the Dallas Mavericks. The Lakers are likely to be without two of their big three, so Howard should be asked to step up. He looked fantastic against the 76ers and nearly had a double-double in his last game. He'll certainly be a streaming option with Russell Westbrook and Malik Monk likely being the only other decent scorers on the team.

Tue Dec 21 202114:19Talen Horton-Tucker, Dwight Howard Returning On Tuesday
Los Angeles Lakers forward Talen Horton-Tucker and center Dwight Howard have cleared the league's protocols. That means, both players are available for Tuesday's game against the Phoenix Suns. Horton-Tucker should immediately move into the starting five with the Lakers shorthanded. He'll have plenty of streaming appeal and DFS value for this one. Also, Howard should have a significant role with Anthony Davis (knee) sidelined. Although, his upside isn't as high as Horton-Tucker.

Wed Nov 3 202121:11Dwight Howard Earns Questionable Tag For Thursday
Los Angeles Lakers center Dwight Howard (neck) has been listed as questionable to play in Thursday's game against the Thunder due to a neck ailment. Howard has been sidelined for the team's previous two contests, paving the way for the Lakers to deploy Anthony Davis as their starting center. Howard has logged just 15.2 minutes per contest to begin the season, not nearly enough to earn him a roster spot in season-long fantasy formats. Barring an absence from Davis, Howard remains on the periphery of DFS relevance, but his ailment could funnel a larger role to DeAndre Jordan in the short term.

Tue Jun 22 202117:5776ers hoping Ben Simmons can fix his game in the offseason
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Ben Simmons clanked one free throw off the back of the rim, so he took a breather, fist-bumped Joel Embiid, paced, walked back to the line and bonked another shot. Hey, the 76ers still led the Hawks by 23 points at that point, Game 5 seemed in the bag, so what’s two missed free throws? Just 1 second in game time later, Simmons was back at the line -- Atlanta using a Hack-A-Ben strategy to its advantage in the playoffs -- and Simmons swished one to the roar of the crowd. Back for the second shot, a 76ers fan wearing a No. 25 Simmons T-shirt simulated proper form from the stands, only to have Simmons knock one off the front of the rim. Yes, a three-time All-Star in the first year of a $177 million max deal received a pity ovation in Philly. Simmons missed a stunning 10 free throws in Game 5 -- and that seemingly insurmountable lead turned into an epic defeat that helped usher the top-seeded Sixers out of the postseason. Fans were devastated, the media pounced and Simmons... [More]
Sun Jun 13 202116:4476ers' Rivers seeks fill-in for injured Green against Hawks
ATLANTA (AP) — Doc Rivers isn't revealing his plan for replacing Danny Green in the Philadelphia 76ers' lineup. Rivers said Sunday “some of the unintended good consequences of having injuries during the regular season” are having options for Game 4 of the Eastern Conference semifinal series against the Atlanta Hawks on Monday night. Green's injury is a big loss for Rivers, but the coach has a deep bench. Green is expected to miss at least two weeks after straining his right calf early Friday in a 127-111 win over the Hawks. The 76ers took a 2-1 lead in the series, putting Atlanta behind in a series for the first time in this postseason. Hawks coach Nate McMillan is trying to avoid putting added pressure on his players. “I think all games are must-wins,” McMillan said Sunday. “If we don’t get tomorrow night we still have another chance in Philly, but you want to take advantage of your home court.” Matisse Thybulle was Rivers' first choice to replace Green in Friday night's game. Thybulle... [More]
Wed Jun 9 202122:43Utah's Gobert wins third Defensive Player of the Year award
Rudy Gobert saved Utah's opening game of the second round with a blocked shot, the kind of play that's earned him recognition as the NBA's best defender. It would have been ever better if Mark Eaton had seen it. The former Jazz center died last month at 64 and Gobert was thinking about his predecessor Wednesday after breaking a tie with him for most Defensive Player of the Year awards in franchise history by winning it for a third time. “I thought about it last night because I knew that I probably would have got a text after the game,” Gobert said. “I’m sure he’s very proud and I’m going to try to keep making him proud and keep honoring his legacy." Gobert had the most total blocked shots and defensive rebounds in the league this season and became the fourth player to win the award at least three times after leading the Jazz to the best record in the league. A night after a game-sealing blocked shot in Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals, Gobert received 84 first-place votes and... [More]

Philadelphia's Ben Simmons was second with 15 first-place votes and 287 votes, while Draymond Green of Golden State was third with 76 points. Gobert was the Defensive Player of the Year in 2018 and 2019. Dikembe Mutombo and Ben Wallace each won it four times and Dwight Howard three. With Gobert in the middle, the Jazz went 52-20 and earned the overall No. 1 seed for the first time. They limited teams to 44.7% shooting, second-lowest in the league. Sat Jun 5 202113:42Good to go? Embiid's status for Game 1 uncertain for 76ers
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Dwight Howard gushed over his first year in Philly, a train-of-thought review on his favorite cheesesteak spot and the dairy dessert the Sixers give away at home games, and he even hummed a few bars to the team’s theme song. Fun! But when the topic turned to Joel Embiid, Howard’s belief that the injured big man can play in Game 1 of Philadelphia's second-round playoff series against Atlanta brought the laughter to a halt. “He should be ready to go,” Howard said. Wait a minute, is the backup center — and one of the top rebounders in NBA history — really breaking news on Embiid’s status for Sunday's game against the Hawks. Pressed for the scoop that Embiid actually will play, Howard suddenly backtracked on his breaking news update. “Oh, nooooooo, you didn’t hear me say that one,” Howard said. “I expect him to be great when he plays. That’s all.” That’s all the Sixers expect, as well, but Embiid’s status remained unknown Saturday because of a cartilage tear in his right... [More]
Tue Jun 1 202120:3176ers C Joel Embiid doubtful for Game 5 with knee injury
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid is doubtful for Game 5 because of a sore right knee. Embiid had an MRI on Tuesday and his status will be decided before Wednesday's game against the Washington Wizards, a person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press. The person spoke to the AP on Tuesday on condition of anonymity because the decision on his status was not made official. Embiid was listed as doubtful on the NBA injury report and Seth Curry (left ankle) and George Hill (left knee) are both probable. The Sixers lead the Wizards 3-1 in the first-round Eastern Conference series. Game 5 is in Philadelphia in front of an expected first full house of the season. Philadelphia was poised for its first sweep since 1985 before Embiid was hurt and the Wizards rallied to win behind 27 points from Bradley Beal. The NBA MVP finalist wound up on the floor behind the baseline after having his shot blocked by Washington’s Robin Lopez on a drive to the basket in the first... [More]
Mon May 31 202123:31Fans Gone Wild: Spectator runs out on court during NBA game
WASHINGTON (AP) — A fan was tackled after running onto the court during an NBA playoff game between the Washington Wizards and Philadelphia 76ers on Monday night, the latest example of unruly behavior as teams let more spectators in the stands during the pandemic. “You can tell those people have been in some sort of captivity for the last year, year and change, right?” Wizards center Robin Lopez said. “It’s kind of wild to see the liberties people are taking.” The players were heading toward Washington's basket in the third quarter of the home team's 122-114 victory in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference first-round series when the action was halted because of the intruder, who jumped as if pretending to try to dunk. A security guard grabbed and held down the person near the baseline as 76ers center Dwight Howard stood nearby. The fan was escorted away from the court and play resumed after a brief interruption. “I don’t know what he was trying to do,” Washington forward Rui Hachimura said.... [More]
Wed May 26 202122:51Simmons leads 76ers past Wizards; Westbrook injured
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Ben Simmons put a spin move on Russell Westbrook that sent him sprawling to the floor several minutes before an ankle injury sent the NBA’s triple-double king to the locker room and nearly into the stands to confront a misbehaving fan. With Simmons soaring and Westbrook ailing, the Philadelphia 76ers beat the Washington Wizards 120-95 on Wednesday night to take a 2-0 lead in the first-round playoff series. Game 3 is Saturday night at Washington. Westbrook went down after colliding with Furkan Korkmaz early in the fourth quarter. He limped off the floor and then was restrained by security after a fan threw popcorn at him as he was headed under the tunnel. “We’ll see," Westbrook said about his availability for the next game. "Hurt it twice in a short amount of time. We’ll see what happens.” As for the incident with the fan, Westbrook said: “I wouldn’t come up to me on the street and throw popcorn on my head, because you know what happens. ... In these arenas, you gotta... [More]

Fri May 14 202116:2576ers' Howard suspended a game for too many technicals
NEW YORK (AP) — Philadelphia 76ers center Dwight Howard was suspended one game without pay by the NBA on Friday for picking up his 16th technical foul of the season. The league said he will serve the suspension Friday night when the 76ers play the first of two homes against the Orlando Magic to close the regular season. If Philadelphia wins one of those games, it will be the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference for the first time since 2001. Howard’s technical came with 10:19 left in the second quarter of a 106-94 loss to the Heat in Miami on Thursday night. Howard knocked forward Udonis Haslem to the floor while the two were going for a rebound. Haslem got up and followed Howard down the court and confronted him. A player or coach is automatically suspended without pay for one game once he accumulates 16 technicals during the regular season. For every two additional technicals during the regular season, a one-game suspension without pay follows. ___ More AP NBA: https://apnews.com/hub/NBA and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports
Thu May 13 202122:55The captain: Haslem makes season debut, scores, gets ejected
MIAMI (AP) — Udonis Haslem finally played, and made an immediate impact for the Miami Heat. He scored twice, making both his shots. He took a charge. And then he got ejected. Haslem can finally say that he has played in 18 NBA seasons — and it was a memorable, albeit brief, appearance. He got two technical fouls and was ejected with 10:19 remaining in the first half, less than three minutes after getting into a game for the first time all season. “If this is the last one, I finished it the only way Udonis Haslem could — with an ejection," Haslem said. He took offense to getting pulled down by Philadelphia's Dwight Howard, then had words with the 76ers' veteran as they went nose-to-nose. Haslem and Howard both got technicals, then Haslem got a second one and was sent off. His final line: 2 for 2 from the field, four points, one rebound, two technicals, one ejection, in about 2-1/2 minutes. Haslem, who turns 41 on June 9, became the oldest player to appear in a game for the Heat and the oldest... [More]

Sat Jan 9 202114:24Virus, injuries leave 76ers set to play with 7 players
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Philadelphia 76ers are set to play Saturday without All-Stars Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid and will have the NBA minimum eight players active as the team deals with injuries and COVID-19 concerns. Sixers guard Seth Curry learned of a positive COVID-19 test while the team played Thursday in Brooklyn, forcing the team to spend an extra day in New York for additional testing. Coach Doc Rivers said before the game against Denver the Sixers will have seven players available and that injured forward Mike Scott will be active but not play. Rivers expressed concern the Sixers were even playing a game so short-handed and he worried about "our players' health on the floor.” The players available are: Danny Green, Dwight Howard, Tyrese Maxey, Tony Bradley, Isaiah Joe, Dakota Mathias and Paul Reed. Embiid, Simmons, Curry and Tobias Harris are the missing starters in the lineup. Rivers said Simmons has a left knee injury and Embiid is nursing a sore back. “Ben in the Brooklyn game had some knee stiffness,” Rivers said. “So we almost probably knew after the game that he wouldn’t play tonight. And then Joel started complaining about his back, that started yesterday. And we didn’t know if he was playing or not but honestly, with the minutes we would have to ask, it would be insane to play him tonight.” Nuggets coach Michael Malone said he needs to make sure his team would not "relax” against an opponent without its best players.
Fri Dec 4 202021:06Vogel: Lakers 'have to be even better' to repeat as champs
LOS ANGELES (AP) — After the longest season and the shortest offseason in NBA history, the champion Los Angeles Lakers are back at work with two content superstars, a younger lineup around them — and a steady confidence they can do it all again. The Lakers seem confident and collected as they head into team workouts this weekend, about eight weeks after they finished off the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals on Oct. 11. A distinct lack of vacation time aside, Los Angeles begins the new season in an apparently stellar position. LeBron James and Anthony Davis extended their commitments to the Lakers earlier this week, and they'll lead a slightly reconfigured roster that looks even better than last season's squad with NBA veterans Dennis Schröder, Montrezl Harrell, Marc Gasol and Wesley Matthews. Before Frank Vogel gets down to the week-to-week challenges of keeping his veterans fresh, navigating travel during a pandemic and taking every opponent's best shot every night, the Lakers coach laid out... Thu Dec 3 202020:55Anthony Davis agrees to 5-year deal to return to Lakers
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Anthony Davis finalized a five-year contract worth up to $190 million to return to the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday. One day after LeBron James agreed to a two-year, $85 million contract extension with the Lakers through 2022-23, Davis committed to the Lakers through the 2024-25 season. Agent Rich Paul of Klutch Sports, who represents both Davis and James, confirmed the terms of both deals to The Associated Press. General manager Rob Pelinka announced both of his All-NBA first-team superstars had agreed to new contracts Thursday night without disclosing their terms. James and Davis won an NBA championship in the first season of their partnership, and Los Angeles is back to work in training camp this week with a solid chance to repeat. “In the Orlando bubble, Anthony Davis proved he is one of the game’s most complete and dominant two-way players,” Pelinka said in a statement. “Now, Lakers fans get to watch AD continue to grow and lead our franchise for years to come."...
