OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — The Oakland Athletics have claimed right-hander Parker Bridwell off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels.The 27-year-old Bridwell went 1-0 with a 17.55 ERA in five games with the Angels last season. He was 1-1 with an 8.68 ERA in six starts at Triple-A Salt Lake. He missed four months over two stints with an inflamed right elbow.Bridwell was claimed off waivers by the Yankees in November before returning to the Angels on another claim a month later. NEW YORK (AP) — Infielder Ronald Torreyes was traded from the New York Yankees to the Chicago Cubs for a player to be named or $2.The 26-year-old was designated for assignment Monday to clear a roster spot when the Yankees claimed right-hander Parker Bridwell off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels. The trade was announced Wednesday.Torreyes was acquired by the Cubs from Cincinnati in December 2011 and spent 1½ seasons in Chicago's minor league system. His contract was purchased by Houston in July 2013, by Toronto in May 2015 and by the Los Angeles Dodgers the following month.He made his major league debut with the Dodgers that September and was traded to the Yankees in January 2016. (AP) — The Los Angeles Angels have placed right-hander Matt Shoemaker on the 10-day disabled list and recalled Parker Bridwell from Triple-A.Bridwell will start against Oakland on Friday, the team said Tuesday.Shoemaker is dealing with a strained right forearm. He was limited to 14 starts last season and had surgery last August to address nerve pain in his right forearm. He got the win in his first start against the Athletics on Sunday, giving up three runs and four hits in 5 2/3 innings.Bridwell went 10-3 with a 3.64 ERA in 20 starts last season but was assigned to Salt Lake City at the end of spring training.
