Sun May 28 202319:31JT Chargois Earns First Career Save
Miami Marlins relief pitcher JT Chargois was tasked with closing down the game versus the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday. Normally, right-hander Dylan Floro is the closer in Miami, but he was unavailable after pitching in three straight contests. Chargois was able to hold the two-run lead, but he didn't make it look pretty. Chargois gave up a leadoff single that was quickly erased on a double play. After that, Chargois walked the next batter and gave up a double to Hunter Renfroe. Then, Mike Trout came to the plate with the tying runs in scoring position. Somehow, Chargois was able to escape the inning without any damage and earn his first career save. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect Chargois to get many save chances with Floro healthy.

The Miami Marlins acquired relief pitcher JT Chargois in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday. The Marlins dealt right-handed pitching prospects Marcus Johnson and Santiago Suarez to the Rays for Chargois and infielder Xavier Edwards. The 31-year-old pitched to a 2.42 ERA and a 4.28 FIP in 22.1 innings for the American League East club last season, striking out 17 batters compared to five walks allowed. He also posted the holds and a pair of pitcher wins. He'll give the Marlins another late-inning relief option alongside the likes of Dylan Floro, Tanner Scott, Tommy Nance, and Richard Bleier.

Tue Apr 12 202214:19Rays Place JT Chargois On Injured List
The Tampa Bay Rays placed relief pitcher JT Chargois (oblique) on the injured list on Tuesday due to left oblique tightness. Acquired as part of the Diego Castillo trade last July, Chargois pitched to a 2.52 ERA and a 3.86 ERA in 53.2 combined innings between the Rays and Seattle Mariners last season, turning in 53 strikeouts and 15 holds in the process while walking 20 batters. So far in 2022, he'd made one appearance, recording two outs, one of which was a strikeout. Starting pitcher Luis Patino was also placed on the injured list on Tuesday. Right-handers Tommy Romero and Ralph Garza Jr. were recalled from the minors.

Fri Jul 30 202114:24Orioles send reliever Shawn Armstrong to Rays for cash
BALTIMORE (AP) — The Baltimore Orioles traded right-hander Shawn Armstrong to the Tampa Bay Rays for cash on Friday. The right-handed reliever has spent parts of seven seasons in the majors. Armstrong has an 8.55 ERA in 20 appearances with the Orioles this season and was with Triple-A Norfolk at the time of the deal. The Rays have been both buyers and sellers ahead of Friday's trade deadline, acquiring slugger Nelson Cruz from the Minnesota Twins and shipping right-hander Diego Castillo to the Seattle Mariners for reliever JT Chargois and a minor league infielder. Tampa Bay entered Friday trailing first-place Boston by 1 1/2 games in the AL East and leading the AL wild-card race. Baltimore, which is last in the AL East, made another move Friday, claiming left-hander Ryan Hartman off waivers from the Astros. Thu Jul 29 202120:14Mariners acquire RHP Diego Castillo from Rays for 2 players
SEATTLE (AP) — The Seattle Mariners quickly found a replacement for the back end of their bullpen, acquiring right-hander Diego Castillo from the Tampa Bay Rays for reliever JT Chargois and a minor league infielder on Thursday. Castillo will likely jump into the closer role that was vacated when the Mariners traded Kendall Graveman to the Houston Astros earlier in the week. But unlike Graveman, who will be a free agent after the season, the Mariners gain a significant amount of control for the future with the acquisition of Castillo. “I’ve said all along that we were focused on doing what we could to improve our team now and to continue to improve our team for 2022 and beyond. We feel like we’ve accomplished that,” Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto said. “I can’t tell you that we will make another deal between now and the deadline but we're not intentionally done. If we’re done it’s just because we weren’t able to get anything across, but we do have other things going.” Castillo, 27,... [More]

Castillo, 27, has 14 saves in 37 appearances and a 2.72 ERA this season for the Rays. He had a 1.66 ERA in 21 appearances during the shortened 2020 season for Tampa Bay. More important for Seattle, Castillo will be under club control through 2024. Chargois, 30, has been a solid addition to Seattle’s bullpen this season, making 31 appearances with a 3.00 ERA after not pitching in 2020. He’s primarily been a bridge option, pitching mostly in the sixth and seventh... [More]

CLEVELAND (AP) — José Ramírez picked up a pair of RBIs — made possible by Baltimore blunders in the field — and the Cleveland Indians extended the Orioles’ road losing streak to 16 games with a 4-3 victory on Monday night. Ramírez drove in a run off Dean Kremer (0-6) in the first inning when Baltimore left fielder DJ Stewart slipped in the wet grass going after a routine fly. Ramirez added an RBI double in the sixth after Orioles second baseman Stevie Wilkerson dropped his foul pop, giving him another try. Indians rookie reliever Nick Sandlin (1-0) picked up his first career win by striking out three of the five batters he faced. Emmanuel Clase worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his 10th save. Fri Jul 5 201900:37Rangers top Angels in finale Skaggs would've started for LA
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Lance Lynn matched the major league lead with his 11th win and the Texas Rangers avoided a series sweep with a 9-3 victory over the grieving Los Angeles Angels on Thursday night, the Fourth of July game that the late Tyler Skaggs had been scheduled to start. The Angels won the first two games of the series after the 27-year-old Skaggs was found dead in his hotel room in Texas on Monday, and that night's scheduled game was postponed until August.Mike Trout hit another impressive homer for Los Angeles in the first inning, his AL best-tying 25th. But Lynn (11-4) limited Los Angeles to only one more run over his seven innings and Rougned Odor homered twice to drive in five runs for the Rangers, who snapped a four-game losing streak. An emotional trip for the Angels that began with them traveling to Texas in cowboy hats and Western attire — a theme initiated by Skaggs — now takes them to Houston for three games this weekend against the Astros before the All-Star break.... Fri Jun 21 201903:37Dodgers looking at Urias or Stripling to fill Hill's spot
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Dodgers manager Dave Roberts is optimistic that pitcher Rich Hill will be back before the end of the season. But with the left-hander out for at least four weeks, Roberts still needs to fill a spot in his rotation.Roberts said he is looking at either Julio Urias or Ross Stripling to plug that hole after Hill was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a left forearm strain. Hill left Wednesday's game before the second inning after retiring the side in the first."Obviously, to lose him, the way he's been pitching, is disheartening any way you look at it," Roberts said. "He's a big part of what we're trying to do moving forward, so to lose him for 3-4 weeks is tough. We know the prognosis and will go from there."Hill is 4-1 with a 2.55 ERA and 61 strikeouts in 10 starts. It is the second time this season the 39-year old has been on the injured list.
