Mon Mar 2512:08Anthony Rizzo Back In Action Monday
New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo (lat) is back in the team's Grapefruit League lineup on Monday against the New York Mets, serving as the designated hitter and batting cleanup. Lat tightness caused the Yankees to scratch Rizzo as a precaution from Friday's spring training game, but he's back in there on Monday after taking the weekend off. Barring a setback, the 34-year-old left-handed-hitting veteran should be New York's starting first baseman on Opening Day on Thursday, March 28, on the road versus the Houston Astros. Fantasy managers that took Rizzo as a corner infielder in mixed leagues are hoping he can stay healthy in 2024 and carry his strong spring results into the regular season. Rizzo currently has a 1.189 OPS and two home runs in the Grapefruit League.

Fri Mar 2218:16Anthony Rizzo "Fully Confident" He'll Be Ready For Opening Day
After New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo (lat) was scratched from Friday's Grapefruit League game due to lat tightness, he said he's "fully confident I'll be in there Opening Day" and added that the decision to scratch him on Friday was a precaution. "He didn't seem too concerned with it. He said it's something he has every now and then during the season, but just wanted to be certain," manager Aaron Boone said. Fantasy managers that took the 34-year-old left-handed-hitting veteran as a power-hitting corner-infield option in mixed leagues will be hoping that Rizzo can carry over his strong spring training performance into the regular season. If Rizzo can stay healthy in 2024 after missing the last two months of 2023 with a concussion, he could be an excellent value play in fantasy.

Fri Mar 2214:44Anthony Rizzo Scratched With Lat Tightness Friday
New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo (lat) was scratched from Friday's Grapefruit League contest against the New York Mets due to lat tightness. Manager Aaron Boone said during the game that Rizzo came to him 20 minutes before the game and said he wanted to come out and be cautious as it's something he deals with in the regular season. The 34-year-old has been enjoying a big spring, hitting .412 with two home runs and seven walks against five strikeouts across 41 trips to the plate, good for a 1.188 OPS. The veteran endured a down 2023 season, hitting .244 with 12 home runs in an injury-shortened 99 games after suffering a concussion in a May collision with Padres superstar Fernando Tatis Jr.

Wed Mar 2014:35Anthony Rizzo Raking In Grapefruit League Action
New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo is enjoying a big spring as he looks to bounce back at the plate in the 2024 season. The veteran is hitting .433 (13-for-30) with two homers, eight RBI, and a 1.241 OPS across 37 trips to the plate. He also has seven walks against five strikeouts in that time. Rizzo enjoyed a solid start to his 2023 season but a May collision with San Diego Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr. on a pickoff play resulted in a concussion that bogged him down for the remainder of the season. Rizzo wound up hitting .244 with 12 home runs and a .706 OPS across 99 games for the season, the worst overall production of his career outside of his 49-game debut in the 2011 season. He figures to bounce back with some power but his 22 home runs and 67 RBI projected by ATC leave much to be desired at the first-base position.

Thu Jan 1819:54Anthony Rizzo Cleared From Concussion
New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said that first baseman Anthony Rizzo (concussion) is currently cleared from the concussion he suffered last year and that doctors aren't concerned about symptoms returning. Rizzo was probably fine to play in games at the end of the regular season, but the Yankees weren't going to put him in harm's way with their chance at the playoffs already over. The left-handed slugger was limited to 99 games because of his head injury last year, and he didn't play after August. The 34-year-old veteran played through the concussion before eventually being shut down, too, and he finished with a .244 average (91-for-373) with only 12 home runs and 41 RBI. If Rizzo's concussion issues are truly behind him, he could be a decent late-round value pick in a Yankees lineup that should be stronger in 2024.

Fri Nov 24 202321:16Anthony Rizzo Doing "Great"
New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo (concussion), who slumped in 2023 and then was shut down after suffering a concussion, is said to be doing "great" so far this offseason, according to his agent, Ryan Gleichowski. Rizzo expects to have a completely normal offseason after his 2023 campaign ended early on Sept. 12 when he was moved to the 60-day injured list. The 34-year-old veteran left-handed hitter finished with a .244/.328/.378 slash line with 12 home runs, 14 doubles, 41 RBI and 45 runs scored in 421 plate appearances and 99 games in his second full season in the Bronx. It came a season after he hit just .224 but with 32 home runs and 75 RBI in 130 games for the Bombers. He'll have bounce-back potential with better health in 2024 and expects to be a full-go for the start of spring training next year.

Tue Sep 5 202316:20Anthony Rizzo Shut Down For Remainder Of The Year
The New York Yankees are shutting down first baseman Anthony Rizzo (concussion) for the rest of the year, according to manager Aaron Boone. It shouldn't come as a huge surprise with the Yankees eight games out of the final wild-card spot in the American League entering play on Tuesday. The 34-year-old left-handed slugger had been making progress from his concussion issues, so he should be fine for the start of spring training in 2024. He's been out since landing on the concussion injured list on Aug. 3 with post-concussion syndrome. DJ LeMahieu will likely continue to serve as the team's primary first baseman the rest of the way. Rizzo will finish his 2023 campaign with a disappointing .244/.328/.378 slash line with 12 home runs, 41 RBI and 45 runs scored in 99 games.

Fri Aug 25 202317:33Anthony Rizzo Taking Batting Practice
New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo (concussion) was seen hitting home runs in batting practice at Yankee Stadium on Thursday. Rizzo said he was encouraged about his progress from post-concussion syndrome, and the expectation is he'll be back before the end of the season. However, the Yankees are taking his recovery week-to-week. The 34-year-old left-handed slugger has been out since Aug. 1 and probably won't be back in the Yankees lineup until sometime in September, but it remains to be seen if he'll require a minor-league rehab assignment before returning. The three-time All-Star has hit .244/.328/.378 this year with 12 home runs, 14 doubles, 41 RBI and 45 runs scored in 99 games before suffering a head injury. DJ LeMahieu is seeing most of the playing time at first base with Rizzo sidelined.

Sat Aug 19 202312:19Anthony Rizzo Feeling Better
New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo (concussion) has been feeling better and also hit in the batting cage on Friday. There's still no specific timetable for Rizzo's return to the Yankees lineup after he was placed on the injured list on Aug. 3 with post-concussion syndrome, but it at least sounds like he's making progress now. As long as the 34-year-old veteran doesn't have any setbacks, he should be able to return before the end of the 2023 season. Rizzo hopes to resume playing in games in a few weeks, so he could return to the big leagues in early September. Before going on the injured list, Rizzo was hitting .244/.328/.378 with 12 home runs, 41 RBI and 45 runs scored in 421 plate appearances and 99 games. The three-time All-Star will probably be eased back in at first base in the Bronx when he comes back.

Mon Aug 14 202320:34Anthony Rizzo To Have More Testing Tuesday
New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo (concussion) will head back to New York for more testing on Tuesday, but he said he feels like he's progressing from concussion issues. Rizzo did some light agility work in the outfield on Monday and walked at an incline on a treadmill. If the 34-year-old left-handed slugger gets good results from his tests on Tuesday, he could begin real baseball activities as he attempts to make his way back to the Yankees lineup. Rizzo has been out since Aug. 1. Before suffering a concussion, he had provided his fantasy managers with 12 home runs, 41 RBI, 45 runs scored and a .244/.328/.378 slash line in 421 trips to the plate and 99 games. Once he gets past his concussion, Rizzo should return to everyday duties at first base in the Bronx.

Sat Aug 12 202301:01Anthony Rizzo Progressing, But Not Ready To Hit
New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo (head) has been running and playing catch while he recovers from a concussion. The 34-year-old is aiming to ramp up baseball activities within the next week. While Rizzo is taking steps toward a return, he hasn't resumed hitting and remains in a week-to-week situation. The left-handed slugger was forced to the injured list on Aug. 3 with post-concussion syndrome and the Yankees remain hopeful he will return this year. Fantasy managers may have a hard time letting go, but Rizzo may not represent the strongest of stashes after slashing a feeble .172/.271/.225 with one home run, six doubles, and nine RBI in 192 plate appearances over 46 games since the calendar flipped to June.

Thu Aug 3 202316:39Anthony Rizzo Goes On Concussion Injured List
The New York Yankees placed first baseman Anthony Rizzo (head) on the concussion injured list on Thursday. Rizzo has been dealing with issues with his head since all the way back in late May after a collision with Padres outfielder Fernando Tatis Jr., and it helps explain why he's been cold offensively over most of the summer. The 33-year-old left-hander could be out for an extended period of time, so fantasy managers need to be prepared for that possibility. Until Rizzo is feeling better, Jake Bauers should be New York's primary first baseman. Rizzo has been a disappointment for fantasy managers with only 12 home runs and 41 RBI in 373 at-bats with a slash line of .244/.328/.378 and a .706 OPS.

Thu Aug 3 202315:16Anthony Rizzo Sitting Again Against Houston
New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo will start the game on the bench on Thursday against the visiting Houston Astros. Rizzo also sat out of Wednesday's game, but the Yankees are also facing a righty on the mound on Thursday in Cristian Javier. The 33-year-old veteran left-handed slugger is in a funk at the plate of late and homered just once in all of July. In his last seven games, Rizzo has gone 4-for-29 (.138) with no homers or RBI, 10 strikeouts and one run scored since July 25. The cold stretch has dropped his season line to .244/.328/.378, and he's added 12 homers, 41 RBI and 45 runs scored in 373 at-bats on the year. With Rizzo getting right mentally, Jake Bauers will start at first base and bat leadoff for the Yanks against Javier.

Tue Jul 4 202312:07Anthony Rizzo Hitting Leadoff Tuesday
New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo is playing first base and is serving as the team's leadoff hitter for a tilt on Tuesday against the visiting Baltimore Orioles and right-hander Kyle Gibson. Rizzo dealt with an elbow injury late last week but played in both games of Saturday's doubleheader before getting a rest day on Sunday. Tuesday's game will be the first time that the 33-year-old left-handed slugger will hit leadoff in 2023, as the Yankees look to kick-start their struggling offense. Rizzo hasn't homered since all the way back on May 20, but he's been hitting well in his last 10 games, going 8-for-29 (.276) with a double, 10 walks and six runs scored. In five career at-bats against Gibson, Rizzo has a homer and is batting .400.

Sat Jul 1 202312:10Anthony Rizzo Returns Saturday
New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo (elbow) is back in the starting lineup on Saturday against right-hander Jack Flaherty and the St. Louis Cardinals for Game 1 of a doubleheader. Rizzo is serving as the designated hitter and is batting cleanup. The 33-year-old left-handed slugger was hit in the elbow by a pitch on Thursday against the Oakland Athletics and was set to be held out of Friday's game against St. Louis before the game was postponed due to inclement weather. Rizzo may not play in both games of the double dip on Saturday, but it's great news that he's back in there for Game 1. Fantasy managers will be hoping he can turn the page quickly in July, as Rizzo hit just .173 (13-for-75) with no homers in the month of June. He hasn't gone deep since May 20.

Fri Jun 30 202316:50Anthony Rizzo Out Friday
New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo (elbow) is not in the lineup on Friday as the team faces the St. Louis Cardinals. Rizzo finds himself on the bench to start the weekend series against the Cardinals after getting hit by a pitch on his elbow on Thursday against the Oakland Athletics. X-rays were negative for any fractures, though, so Rizzo is merely day-to-day and could return to the starting lineup on Saturday. DJ LeMahieu is getting the start at the cold corner on Friday and is hitting leadoff for the Yanks against Cardinals left-hander Matthew Liberatore. Rizzo will finish the month of June with a weak .173 average (13-for-75) with no home runs, four doubles, five RBI and 17 strikeouts in 90 plate appearances over 22 games, but he remains a solid source of power in a strong Yankees lineup.

Thu Jun 29 202319:28Anthony Rizzo Leaves Game Early, X-Rays Come Back Negative
New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo (elbow) left the game early on Thursday against the Oakland Athletics after getting hit by a pitch on his back elbow, but thankfully X-rays came back negative, according to manager Aaron Boone. The Yankees are calling Rizzo day-to-day, and there's a good chance he'll be out on Friday for the start of a series against the St. Louis Cardinals. Before leaving Thursday's contest, the 33-year-old left-handed slugger went 1-for-3 with a run scored, and he's now hitting .269 on the year with 11 home runs and 37 RBI in 75 games for the Yankees. It sounds like there's a pretty good chance Rizzo will be back on either Saturday or Sunday, but fantasy managers will want to move him to their bench for Friday's slate.

Tue Jun 13 202312:31Anthony Rizzo Slumping
New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo, who was the team's most consistent bat through the first two months of the season, has gone 0-for-22 since outfielder Aaron Judge (toe) got injured. "He's just going through a tough stretch right now," manager Aaron Boone said. "I thought his [batting practice Sunday] was good. Hopefully Tuesday we'll start to see some fruits of that." The rough patch has dropped the 33-year-old left-handed slugger's season slash line to .269/.344/.444 with eight doubles, 11 home runs, 32 RBI and 32 runs scored in 262 trips to the plate over 61 games. Rizzo has also dealt with some neck issues recently, so perhaps that has something to do with his cold stretch offensively.

Sat Jun 10 202316:32Anthony Rizzo Out Of The Lineup On Saturday
New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo is out of the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Boston Red Sox. This appears to be a routine rest day for the left-handed slugger. It's a much-needed day off as Rizzo is 1-for-27 across his last seven games since returning from injury. DJ LeMahieu will cover first base and bat sixth versus right-hander Tanner Houck on Saturday. Fantasy managers should expect Rizzo back in the lineup after this contest.

Fri Jun 2 202319:49Anthony Rizzo Back In Friday's Lineup
New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo (neck) is back in the starting lineup on Friday, playing first base and batting third against the Los Angeles Dodgers and left-hander Clayton Kershaw. Rizzo has been dealing with neck issues this week and missed the previous three games, but he'll be back in there for the start of a three-game weekend series on Friday at Dodgers Stadium. Many fantasy managers may be hesitant to return him to their starting lineups while opposing Kershaw, but Rizzo has gone 18-for-43 (.419) with three doubles, a homer and seven RBI in 50 plate appearances against lefties in 2023. Overall, he's hit a very solid .304 (62-for-204) with 11 home runs and 32 RBI. Get Rizzo back into your starting lineups.
