Fri Feb 901:23Luis Perdomo Agrees To Minors Deal With Nationals
Free-agent right-hander Luis Perdomo agreed to a minor-league deal that includes an invitation to major-league spring training on Thursday with the Washington Nationals, according to sources. Perdomo increased his value in the big leagues after posting a 2.13 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, one save, 15 walks and 41 strikeouts in 50 2/3 relief innings for Chiba Lotte of Nippon Professional Baseball in Japan last year. The 30-year-old Dominican hurler has made 61 starts in six career seasons in the majors, but he's most likely to stick in a relief role as he tries to earn a roster spot in Washington's bullpen out of spring training. Perdomo is off the fantasy radar altogether and has a 5.12 ERA (4.46 FIP) and 1.49 WHIP in 468 career major-league innings over 147 appearances (61 starts).

Milwaukee Brewers relief pitcher Luis Perdomo (calf) has been placed on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to Sept. 24, with a right calf strain. This move clears up a roster spot for the Brewers to activate starter Freddy Peralta (shoulder), who is starting on Sunday vs. the Cincinnati Reds. The 29-year-old Perdomo has a 3.80 ERA and 1.14 WHIP across 23 2/3 innings of relief this season.

Tue Jul 19 202211:20Luis Perdomo Rehabbing In Minors
Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Luis Perdomo (elbow) is currently on a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Nashville, and he worked one inning while allowing a run on two hits in his second appearance last Saturday. Perdomo has been out since May 28 with a right elbow effusion, but he's working his way back and could be activated for the start of the second half of the season later this week. However, the 29-year-old won't be fantasy relevant in a low-leverage bullpen role for Milwaukee. Before his injury, he had pitched well in 10 1/3 relief innings, giving up just two earned runs on nine hits while striking out three and walking two for the Brew Crew.

Hosmer started and batted fifth against the Seattle Mariners. The Padres had the chance to clinch their first playoff berth in 14 seasons. The Padres also recalled right-hander Luis Patiño to start in place of Mike Clevinger, who will have his next start pushed back a few days due to right biceps tightness. To make room on the roster, catcher Francisco Mejía and right-hander Luis Perdomo were optioned to the alternate training site.
Fri Aug 21 202022:05Padres place Pomeranz on IL with strained left shoulder
SAN DIEGO (AP) — The San Diego Padres have placed left-handed reliever Drew Pomeranz on the 10-day injured list with a strained left shoulder, retroactive to Wednesday. To take his spot, right-hander Luis Perdomo was recalled from the alternate training site on Friday.Pomeranz, signed to a $34 million, four-year free agent deal in November, hadn't allowed a run in nine innings over 10 appearances this year while striking out 12 and walking three. Pomeranz’s injury is the latest for a bullpen that had been projected as the team’s major strength. The Padres placed closer Kirby Yates on the IL last week with an inflamed right elbow. Yates had an MLB-high 41 saves last year. San Diego lost Andres Muñoz to Tommy John surgery in March and Trey Wingenter to the same surgery in July. Also, Jose Castillo sprained his lat on July 8 and was placed on the IL earlier this month.___More AP baseball: https://apnews.com/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports

Wed Jul 24 201923:40Rays beat Red Sox 3-2 as Boston files protest over lineup
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Charlie Morton struck out 11 over seven innings and the Tampa Bay Rays avoided a three-game sweep by beating David Price and Boston 3-2 in a game that the Red Sox protested on Wednesday.Confusion reigned in the top of the eighth when a series of defensive changes involving reliever Adam Kolarek prompted Boston manager Alex Cora to protest the game due to the placement of subs into the Rays lineup after the designated hitter was removed.Kolarek replaced Morton and retired pinch-hitter Sam Travis on a pop fly. The left-hander then shifted to first base when Rays manager Kevin Cash brought in reliever Chaz Roe, who got a fly ball from Mookie Betts. After Kolarek then returned to the mound and Nate Lowe entered to play first base, Cora met with the umpires, which prompted around a 15-minute stoppage as the umpires discussed the matter. After the protest was made and the game resumed, Kolarek got a first-pitch grounder from Rafael Devers. An unhappy Cora again talked... TORONTO (AP) — San Diego Padres rookie right-hander Chris Paddack was scratched from his start against the Blue Jays because of a stiff neck and is expected to throw Wednesday instead.Manager Andy Green said Sunday the neck issue is "nothing serious" and Paddack should be ready to start at Yankee Stadium this week.Paddack is 4-2 with a 1.93 ERA in nine starts and has struck out 56 in 51 1/3 innings. Wed Feb 13 201917:31Padres expect competition for rotation spots this spring
PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) — Besides figuring out how to fill the glaring hole at third base, San Diego Padres manager Andy Green will have a lot of decisions to make this spring to round out the young, largely inexperienced rotation. With veterans Clayton Richard, Tyson Ross, Phil Hughes and Jordan Lyles gone, the rotation will be headed by left-handers Joey Lucchesi and Eric Lauer, both of whom made their big league debut last year. There will be plenty competition for the other spots, and long-suffering fans should see some of the team's highly touted prospects reach the big leagues this season."You can feel it in the rotation and the guys competing for spots," Green said Wednesday. "It's real competing and talent with some high-ceiling guys that are coming in. There's real excitement about those guys coming in. It's a young group that's very talented."Lucchesi started 26 games last season and led the team in strikeouts by a wide margin with 145 in 130 innings. Lauer started 23 games and pitched... [More]

Mon Apr 16 201804:09Pitch framing tactics under a bit more scrutiny
The concept of pitch framing is not exactly new, but it certainly seems to be under a bit more scrutiny now. There was even a bench-clearing incident earlier this month when Arizona manager Torey Lovullo started arguing with the plate umpire about St. Louis catcher Yadier Molina's framing. Lovullo said he praised Molina while using a profanity. The two had a shouting match. It's rare for something as mundane as pitch framing to cause such a dust-up, but it's clear that players, managers and umpires are becoming increasingly cognizant of the way catchers can try to influence calls on balls and strikes."I've had an umpire tell me this year that borderline pitches, I'm making them look better than what they are," Detroit catcher James McCann said. "They've known for years that we try and steal strikes. It's probably just more in the limelight now because we do have the framing numbers, and we do have umpires grades."Lovullo's complaints aside, there doesn't seem to be too much of a backlash... Thu Apr 12 201822:59Padres vow not to get pushed around after brawl with Rockies
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Showing some fight seems to be a good thing for the rebuilding San Diego Padres. While awaiting word on punishment from MLB for their brawl Wednesday with the Colorado Rockies, the Padres vowed not to get pushed around by anyone. After five Padres batters were hit in six games against the Rockies this season, including Manuel Margot taking a fastball to the ribs Tuesday night and going on the disabled list, the Padres felt enough was enough.Luis Perdomo threw a pitch behind Nolan Arenado in the third inning Wednesday and the All-Star rushed the mound, setting off a brawl that led to five ejections, including Perdomo, Arenado and San Diego catcher A.J. Ellis. It also led to a sense of camaraderie for the Padres, who were labeled as soft by some last year when they chose not to retaliate after Anthony Rizzo of the Chicago Cubs slammed into Austin Hedges at the plate last year, sidelining the catcher for a few games. MLB determined that Rizzo violated the home plate collision... [More]

That's what they got," Boston starter David Price said.NO MORE NOLAN?Rockies slugger Nolan Arenado is certain to get suspended soon after charging the mound and trying to punch Padres pitcher Luis Perdomo.
