Sat Oct 2 202119:43John Gant Lands On Injured List With Groin Strain
The Minnesota Twins placed starting pitcher John Gant (groin) on the 10-day injured list on Saturday. He is dealing with a right mild groin strain. The team called up fellow pitcher Charlie Barnes from Triple-A in a corresponding move. Gant struggled in his last outing of the year on Friday, pitching four innings against the Kansas City Royals and giving up eight hits, two walks and six earned runs. The 29-year-old split his 2021 season with the Twins and the St. Louis Cardinals. He made a total of 39 appearances this year (21 starts) and went 5-11 with a 4.09 ERA and a 1.51 WHIP.

Mon Sep 13 202118:56John Gant Suffers Abdominal Strain On Monday
Minnesota Twins starting pitcher John Gant (abdomen) was removed from Monday's start against the New York Yankees after suffering a lower abdominal strain. He only lasted three batters and 12 pitches before he was taken out and replaced by Luke Farrell. The 29-year-old veteran has made 12 appearances (five starts) with the Twins since being acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals. Over those 12 appearances, he has a 4.73 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP. It sounds as if a stint on the injured list is somewhat likely. If that indeed ends up being the case, Gant may not pitch for the Twins again this year.

Wed Sep 8 202115:25John Gant Strikes Out Season-High Seven Batters
Minnesota Twins starting pitcher John Gant produced one of his better starts of the season in Tuesday's win over the Indians. Gant struck out a season-high seven batters over five shutout innings, walking four while allowing three hits. The 29-year-old generated 12 swinging strikes, including eight of them on his changeup, which has been by far his best pitch, as evidenced by its 38.1 percent whiff rate and .222 opponent batting average against. Gant is just 1-3 since joining the Twins, though he has exhibited much better control, with a 32:10 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 26 innings. He's an option for those in deeper formats, but his upcoming matchup against the Yankees isn't a particularly appealing one.

Wed Sep 1 202110:40John Gant Takes Ninth Loss Tuesday
Minnesota Twins starting pitcher John Gant took the loss Tuesday against the Cubs. Gant didn't pitch badly, going five innings while allowing two runs on three hits, striking out five batters with no walks issued. He kept the Cubs lineup off-balance with his off-speed heavy approach, inducing an average exit velocity against of 84.8 MPH. The 29-year-old now owns a respectable 3.98 ERA but a ghastly 1.47 WHIP. Gant's control has actually been much better since the start of August, as evidenced by his 25:6 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Still, his upside is limited pitching for the Twins, who may start to call up some of their young prospect arms up from the minors.

Fri Jul 30 202115:14Minnesota Twins To Acquire John Gant
The Minnesota Twins have a deal in place to acquire starting pitcher John Gant from the St. Louis Cardinals, according to Robert Murray of FanSided. Over 25 games between the bullpen and starting rotation this year, Gant is 4-6 with a 3.42 ERA, 1.572 WHIP and 16.2 percent strikeout rate over 76 1/3 innings of work. The strikeout rate is a career-low for Gant, but otherwise he should figure to be a decent replacement to fill the spot in the rotation that was vacated by Jose Berrios. There's no word yet what the return is for St. Louis in this deal.
