Wed Mar 2713:19Yankees Acquire Jon Berti From Marlins
The New York Yankees acquired infielder Jon Berti from the Miami Marlins on Wednesday, according to a source. It's unknown what the Marlins will receive in return. The Yankees are going to be without both DJ LeMahieu (foot) and Oswald Peraza (shoulder) for the start of the 2024 regular season, so the 34-year-old Berti will give the Yanks more infield depth until those two are able to return. Berti can also play in the outfield, but most of his playing time early in the season figures to come at third base for the Bombers. Berti stole a league-high 41 bags in 102 games for the Marlins in 2022 but came back down to Earth in that category last year with only 16 swipes, but he did manage to hit .294 (114-for-388) in 133 contests. He won't supply much power but his fantasy stock in AL-only leagues is now on the rise for his speed.

Thu Feb 2212:13Jon Berti Now In Utility Role
Miami Marlins infielder Jon Berti was the team's projected starting shortstop for the 2024 season before they signed shortstop Tim Anderson to a one-year, $5 million deal on Thursday. Anderson now has a clear path to everyday playing time in Miami at the 6. Berti is far better suited for a utility role. The 34-year-old played a career-high 64 games at shortstop for the Marlins last year and has seen over 400 plate appearances the last two years with the Fish at second base, shortstop, third base and all three outfield positions, so he's of much more use to the team when he's filling in around the diamond. Berti hit a career-best .294 with seven home runs, 33 RBI and 16 stolen bases in 2023, a year after he had a league-high 41 steals in 102 games. With sporadic playing time, it's going to be tough for Berti to get back to being an elite threat on the basepaths.

Mon Nov 6 202323:42Marlins Pick Up Jon Berti's 2024 Option
The Miami Marlins picked up infielder Jon Berti's $3.625 million team option for the 2024 season on Monday. Berti isn't a star by any means, but the 33-year-old brings plenty of value to the Fish as a utility infielder that can play multiple positions. He hit a strong .294 (114-for-388) with career-highs in home runs (seven), RBI (33), runs scored (53) and games played (133) in his sixth year in Miami. Berti took a big step back in the stolen-base department from a year ago, though, when he had a league-high 41 stolen bases in just 102 games in 2022. He doesn't have much power (23 career home runs), but Berti's positional eligibility and speed make him an underrated fantasy asset in deeper leagues going into the 2024 season.

Tue Oct 3 202318:40Jon Berti Starting At Shortstop On Tuesday
Miami Marlins shortstop Jon Berti is in the starting lineup for Tuesday's Game 1 of the Wild Card round versus the Philadelphia Phillies. Normally, Garrett Hampson would cover shortstop as he did a majority of the time down the stretch of the season. However, the Marlins will ride the hot hand here with Berti. Over his last 46 plate appearances, Berti is slashing .500/.609/.944 with four homers and two steals. He'll cover shortstop and bat eighth versus right-hander Zack Wheeler on Tuesday.

Wed Jul 26 202316:26Jon Berti Collects Two Hits Wednesday
Miami Marlins utility player Jon Berti against the Rays Wednesday managed to go 2-for-3 with a walk and three runs scored. He has been hitting well and has been extremely useful to the Marlins recently. The 33-year-old boasts an average of .297 with two home runs and 19 RBI. However, as a speedster, he has struggled on the base path, with only 11 stolen bases on 15 attempts. While last season Berti swiped 41 bags in 102 games played.

Thu Jun 22 202314:37Jon Berti Back In The Starting Lineup Thursday
Miami Marlins utility player Jon Berti is back in the starting lineup Thursday night versus the Pittsburgh Pirates and right-hander Mitch Keller. The 33-year-old got the night off on Wednesday in the series finale against the Blue Jays but has otherwise seen solid playing time this season. The speedy Berti is hitting a healthy .274 on the season but lacks power with just two homers while drawing walks at a subpar 6.4% clip. All told, Berti owns a .666 OPS while contributing eight stolen bases across 219 plate appearances in 2023. Berti led all of baseball with 41 stolen bases last season, making his eight swipes this time around somewhat disappointing given the steal-friendly rules implemented this season.

Sun May 28 202314:55Jon Berti Getting A Day Off Sunday
Miami Marlins utility man Jon Berti is not in Sunday's lineup for the game against the Los Angeles Angels. The speedster is batting .268 this year with a pair of long balls and seven stolen bases through 48 contests. Yuli Gurriel is taking his spot in the lineup, playing first and batting sixth. The 38-year-old has rebounded after a poor 2022 season, slashing .304/.354/.452 with three bombs over 31 games. Gurriel owns a .300 average off of lefties this season, and a .282 mark for his career, so fantasy managers can feel safe starting or streaming the former World Series champ.

Tue May 16 202315:23Jon Berti Absent From Tuesday's Lineup
Miami Marlins infielder Jon Berti is not in the team's starting lineup on Tuesday against the Washington Nationals. Berti is more of a utility infielder for the Fish now that Joey Wendle is back from the injured list. The 33-year-old is hitting a decent .271 (32-for-118) with five doubles, two home runs, eight RBI, six stolen bases and 16 runs scored in 130 plate appearances and 37 games. He had a league-high 41 steals last year and remains useful for his speed in deeper leagues, but the ceiling is much lower if he's not playing every day for Miami. Wendle is manning the 6 and is hitting in the nine-hole for the Marlins on Tuesday against Nationals right-hander Josiah Gray.

Sat Apr 29 202314:30Jon Berti Headed To The Bench Saturday
Miami Marlins infielder Jon Berti is getting a rest in Saturday's matchup with Caleb Kilian and the Chicago Cubs. It's his second day off in three days, and he's slashing just .228/.279/.354 with two home runs, 10 runs, and eight RBI, but has swiped four bags across 26 games. Garrett Hampson is taking over at shortstop for Berti and will bat ninth. The 28-year-old is hitting .231 with one long ball, six runs, four RBI, and two stolen bases over 16 games. The speedster's fantasy value isn't too exciting, aside from his baserunning, but that isn't enough for fantasy managers to justify adding him from the waiver wire.

Fri Apr 14 202321:48Jon Berti Collects Two RBI On Friday
Miami Marlins infielder Jon Berti had a solid showing in Friday's win over the Diamondbacks. The 33-year-old finished with two hits and a run. He also had two RBI, courtesy of a double in the fourth inning. Berti isn't the most sought-after fantasy option this season. However, he's collected four RBI and smashed his first home run of the year in the last three games, so he's at least worth keeping an eye on moving ahead.

Fri Mar 31 202314:53Jon Berti To Start At Shortstop
Miami Marlins infielder Jon Berti will start at shortstop and bat ninth during Friday's game against the New York Mets. The Marlins have decided to shake up their lineup with left-hander David Peterson on the mound against them. Joey Wendle started Opening Day, but will take a seat for at least one game. Berti doesn't offer much upside in terms of offense. However, he is a legitimate speed threat, which makes him worth looking at in category leagues. It'll be interesting to see if Berti can get his bat going after hitting .240/.324/.338 last season.

Tue Feb 7 202318:20Marlins, Jon Berti Avoid Arbitration
The Miami Marlins and infielder Jon Berti avoided salary arbitration on Monday night by agreeing to a one-year deal worth $2.125 million with a team option for 2024 that is worth $3.5 million. Berti led the majors in stolen bases last year with 41 while hitting .240/.324/.338 with a .662 OPS, four home runs, 28 RBI and 47 runs scored in 404 plate appearances and a career-high 102 games in his fifth major-league campaign. The 33-year-old missed around a month with groin and hip injuries, and there probably isn't more stolen base upside if he's not playing regularly, but Berti will certainly remain plenty attractive in all fantasy leagues because of his speed. He doesn't really have any pop, though, so Berti is pretty much a single-category fantasy asset.

Tue Sep 20 202200:25Jon Berti Homers, Steals Two Bases Monday
Miami Marlins utilityman Jon Berti had a great offensive game in Monday's 10-3 win over the Cubs. Berti went 3-for-5 with two singles, a solo home run, two RBI, and two stolen bases. The 32-year-old has provided most of his fantasy value in the form of speed and versatility, slashing .249/.335/.351 with four HR, 26 RBI, and 36 stolen bases in 346 plate appearances. This limits Berti's overall fantasy value, particularly in points leagues. However, he is rostered in just 51 percent of leagues, so he may be available for fantasy managers in roto leagues looking to make a late push for steals.

Tue Sep 6 202216:24Jon Berti Returns Against Phillies
Miami Marlins second baseman Jon Berti (hip) is back at second base and is hitting leadoff on Tuesday against Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola. Berti missed almost a full week with a hip injury, but he'll return to face the Phils on Tuesday. The 32-year-old has mostly been useful in fantasy for his speed, as he leads baseball with 32 stolen bases in 75 games played this year. Overall, he's slashing .259/.349/.365 with only three home runs, 21 RBI and 35 runs scored in 292 plate appearances. His fantasy managers will be hoping he can finish the season strong after he hit just .222 (14-for-63) with a homer, two RBI, three runs scored, four steals and 16 strikeouts in 17 games in August.

Wed Aug 31 202222:13Jon Berti Exits With Hip Soreness
Miami Marlins infielder/outfielder Jon Berti (hip) was removed from Wednesday's loss to the Tampa Bay Rays with right hip soreness. He went 2-for-4 with a home run and a steal before exiting during the eighth inning of Wednesday's game. The 32-year-old is considered day-to-day. Miami is off on Thursday; Berti's next chance to return to the lineup will be Friday against the Atlanta Braves. He is a vital asset in 5x5 rotisserie leagues and leads the majors with 32 stolen bases. Luke Williams replaced Berti in Wednesday's contest. Williams would handle third-base duties and see an uptick in playing time if Berti misses any games.

Fri Aug 12 202216:47Jon Berti Activated From Injured List
Miami Marlins infielder Jon Berti (groin) has been activated from the 10-day injured list on Friday. He missed nearly a month of action due to a left groin strain. Berti will bat second and play second base versus right-hander Jake Odorizzi on Friday. It'll be interesting to see if Berti continues to steal bases at a high rate after this injury. He currently leads the league with 28 stolen bases. Fantasy managers should make sure to move Berti back in their lineups for Friday's game.

Mon Aug 8 202211:12Jon Berti Steals A Base In Rehab Game
Miami Marlins infielder Jon Berti (groin) went 0-for-3 with a walk, two strikeouts and a stolen base while playing third base and hitting leadoff on Sunday in a minor league rehab game for Triple-A Jacksonville. Berti started his rehab assignment in the minors this weekend as he works his way back from a left groin strain that landed him on the injured list in the middle of July. Fantasy managers should continue to stash him, considering he's still leading the majors with his 28 stolen bases. The 32-year-old is also hitting .271/.365/.375 with two home runs, 19 RBI and 32 runs scored in 222 plate appearances over 58 games this year for the Fish. Barring a setback on his rehab assignment, Berti should rejoin Miami at some point this week.

Fri Aug 5 202214:16Jon Berti, Brian Anderson Beginning Rehab Assignments
Miami Marlins infielders Jon Berti (groin) and Brian Anderson (shoulder) will both begin minor league rehab assignments with Triple-A Jacksonville this weekend. Berti has been out almost three weeks with a left groin strain, while Anderson has been on the injured list since July 24. Both players are nearing a return to the major league roster and could be reinstated from the injured list at some point early next week, barring a setback in minor league action. Berti has been much more valuable in fantasy in 2022 than Anderson, slashing .271/.365/.375 with two home runs, 19 RBI, 32 runs scored and a league-leading 28 stolen bases, so he needs to be grabbed immediately if he's available in your league. Anderson has hit .256/.346/.378 with three homers, 12 RBI, 26 runs and a stolen base in 180 at-bats.

Tue Jul 26 202215:14Jon Berti Resumes Baseball Activities
Miami Marlins infielder Jon Berti (groin) is hitting in the batting cages and increasing running activities as he rehabs in Jupiter, Fla. Berti was placed on the injured list after straining his left groin during a stolen base on July 14. The 32-year-old will likely need to go on a minor league rehab assignment before returning to the Marlins, but it's encouraging that he's doing baseball activities already. Before his injury, he had earned regular playing time at the keystone for the Fish by hitting .271/.365/.375 with two home runs, 19 RBI, 32 runs scored and a league-leading 28 stolen bases in 222 plate appearances over 58 games. Joey Wendle should continue to handle the vast majority of starts at second base with Berti out.

Wed Jul 6 202215:28Jon Berti Back In The Leadoff Spot Wednesday
Miami Marlins infielder Jon Berti (lower body) is back in the starting lineup in left field and is hitting leadoff on Wednesday against Los Angeles Angels right-hander Shohei Ohtani. Berti missed the last two games while dealing with lower-body tightness, but baseball's stolen base leader is back in action atop the batting order. The 32-year-old has gone 1-for-19 in his last five games, but he still leads the majors with 25 thefts and is slashing .268/.363/.378 with two home runs, 18 RBI and 29 runs scored in 164 at-bats. Berti isn't as attractive for his speed in DFS, and he's facing a difficult matchup in Ohtani.
