Wed Dec 6 202318:32Angels Sign Willie Calhoun To Minor-League Deal
The Los Angeles Angels signed outfielder Willie Calhoun and right-hander Travis MacGregor to minor-league deals with spring training invites on Wednesday. Calhoun had a .712 OPS with the New York Yankees in 2023 and has played parts of seven years in the majors with the Yankees, Texas Rangers and San Francisco Giants. MacGregor has never pitched in the majors and had a 3.82 ERA at Double-A and Triple-A with the Pittsburgh Pirates this past season as a swing man. The 29-year-old left-handed-hitting Calhoun was a high-end prospect when he initially came up with the Rangers, but he never panned out, with his best season coming with Texas in 2019 when he hit .269 with 21 home runs and 48 RBI in 83 games.

Fri Jul 28 202312:17Willie Calhoun Designated For Assignment By Yankees
The New York Yankees reinstated outfielder Willie Calhoun (quadriceps) from the 10-day injured list on Friday and designated him for assignment. If Calhoun clears waivers, he'll be free to sign with any major-league team. The 28-year-old only managed to play in 44 games for the Yankees this year, and he was slashing .239/.309/.403 with five home runs, seven doubles, 16 RBI and 16 runs scored in 149 plate appearances. With Aaron Judge (toe) returning from the injured list on Friday, the Yankees don't have any room for Calhoun on their 40-man roster. In six rehab games with Double-A Somerset, Calhoun went 5-for-22 (.227) with a homer and two RBI.

New York Yankees outfielder Willie Calhoun (quad) is getting close to beginning a rehab assignment. Calhoun will head to Double-A Somerset to work out with the squad before he officially starts his rehab assignment. Calhoun has been sidelined since late June with a left quad strain. The veteran could be back in the big leagues in the next few weeks, provided everything goes smoothly on his rehab stint. Calhoun is hitting .239 with five homers, 16 runs, and 16 RBI across 134 at-bats in 2023.

Thu Jun 22 202316:16Yankees Place Willie Calhoun On 10-Day Injured List
The New York Yankees officially placed outfielder Willie Calhoun (quadriceps) on the 10-day injured list on Thursday with a left-quadriceps strain and recalled infielder/outfielder Oswaldo Cabrera from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in a corresponding move. Calhoun heard a popping noise in his quad on Wednesday, and he's likely to miss more than 10 days to recover from the injury. The 28-year-old was hitting .239 (32-for-134) with five homers, seven doubles, 16 RBI and 16 runs scored in 44 games for the Yankees this year as a bench bat. Gleyber Torres is serving as the designated hitter on Thursday and batting second, while Giancarlo Stanton is starting in right field and hitting cleanup against Seattle Mariners right-hander Bryan Woo.

Thu Jun 22 202309:32Willie Calhoun Likely Headed To The Injured List
New York Yankees outfielder/designated hitter Willie Calhoun (quad) tweaked his left quadriceps while running the bases during Wednesday's 4-2 victory over the Seattle Mariners. He stayed in the game but is set to undergo an MRI and expects to hit the injured list. Calhoun's having his best campaign since 2019 with the bat, slashing .239/.309/.403 with five long balls, 16 runs, and 16 RBI across 44 games. Still, it isn't great production and fantasy managers can replace the former prospect pretty easily on the waiver wire.

Thu Jun 8 202314:20Willie Calhoun Hitting Leadoff Thursday
New York Yankees outfielder/designated hitter Willie Calhoun has been moved up to the leadoff spot for Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Chicago White Sox and right-hander Lance Lynn. It's the first start of the season out of the leadoff spot for Calhoun who is being moved up in an effort to stretch out the lineup in the absence of superstar Aaron Judge who is on the IL with a big toe sprain. Following a slow start. Calhoun posted an .805 OPS, .346 wOBA, and a 122 wRC+ in the month of May, mostly as the DH with Giancarlo Stanton sidelined for much of the month. He makes for a nice streaming option Thursday as Lynn has scuffled to a 6.55 ERA and 2.00 HR/9 in 12 starts this season.

Mon May 29 202318:49Willie Calhoun Moved Up To Three-Hole Monday
New York Yankees outfielder/designated hitter Willie Calhoun will hit out of the three-hole for the first time this season when the club openers up a series with the Seattle Mariners on the west coast. It was a slow start to the season for the former top prospect but Calhoun has picked it up of late. Most recently, he has five hits -- including a pair of doubles -- over his last 12 trips to the plate while also driving in a pair of runs in that time. Overall, the 28-year-old is hitting .242 with three homers and a .705 OPS across 30 appearances on the season. His 0.79 BB/K is impressive while all but five of his appearances on the season have come as the Yankees' DH.

Wed Mar 29 202300:13Willie Calhoun Reassigned To Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre
New York Yankees outfielder Willie Calhoun was informed Tuesday that he would not start the season with the big-league team. The 28-year-old signed with the Yankees this off-season and had a productive spring, batting .294 with one home run and four RBI in 51 at-bats. However, he will instead be starting the season with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The former Texas Rangers prospect has never panned out and slashed just .135/.274/.250 in 62 plate appearances in 2022 with the Rangers and Giants. There may still be hope for him yet to find a big-league role, but fantasy managers can ignore him for now.

Sun Jan 1 202314:23Willie Calhoun Signs With Yankees
The New York Yankees agreed to a non-roster minor-league deal with free-agent outfielder Willie Calhoun on Saturday, according to a source. Calhoun will receive an invitation to major-league spring training. The 28-year-old was one of the Texas Rangers' top prospects, but he never ended up panning out over six seasons. He joined the San Francisco Giants for four games in 2022 but ended up playing in only 22 total contests. In his six big-league seasons, Calhoun has a .240/.299/.404 slash line with a .703 OPS, 32 home runs, 104 RBI and 98 runs scored in 936 plate appearances. He managed to hit a career-high 21 home runs in 2019 with Texas, but Calhoun just hasn't been able to get over the hump in the big leagues. The Yankees will hope to get something out of him, if nothing more than outfield depth.

Thu Jun 23 202214:13Giants Acquire Willie Calhoun For Steven Duggar
The San Francisco Giants have a deal in place to acquire outfielder Willie Calhoun from the Texas Rangers on Thursday in exchange for outfielder Steven Duggar (oblique). Injuries have held Calhoun back in his six seasons with the Rangers, but a change of scenery and more playing time could do him well. The 27-year-old was hitting just .136 (6-for-44) with a home run and two RBI in 18 games for Texas this year before they sent him to the minors. The Giants are in need of outfield help with Luis Gonzalez (back) going on the injured list, but Calhoun will have to earn an opportunity with his new club. Duggar hadn't played since April 21 due to a left oblique strain, but the Rangers have activated him after the trade went through. Duggar has gone just 7-for-36 in 12 games this year, but he could eventually become the Rangers starting center fielder.

Sun Jun 5 202212:00Willie Calhoun Designated For Assignment
The Texas Rangers designated outfielder Willie Calhoun for assignment on Sunday in order to make room for outfield prospect Steele Walker on the active roster. Calhoun's time with the Rangers may finally be coming to an end soon after he expressed a desire to be traded after he was optioned to the minor leagues a month ago. The 27-year-old displayed flashes of his talent in Texas in the last six years, but injuries always seemed to keep him from reaching his true potential. A change of scenery could help turn things around. Calhoun hit just .136/.283/.273 with a homer and two RBI in 18 games this year before being optioned, and he has a career slash line of .241/.300/.407 with 32 home runs and 103 RBI in his six years with the Rangers.

Mon May 2 202211:26Willie Calhoun Wants To Be Traded
After being demoted to Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday, Texas Rangers outfielder Willie Calhoun said he wants to be traded. "(I'm) gonna go to Triple-A and put myself in a position to get traded," Calhoun said. "I do want to be traded." Calhoun hit the ball hard early on, but he has a .136 batting average to show for it. The 27-year-old has been up and down from the majors and minors since his debut in 2017, and injuries have also slowed him down along the way. "I don't agree with some of the hitting philosophies from the new guys," Calhoun said. "I don't process that (information) too well. I'm not 6-foot-4, 230 pounds; I can't hit pop-up home runs. I don't have that leverage." A healthy Calhoun can still be successful in the big leagues, but at this point, that probably won't be in Texas.

Thu Sep 16 202110:53Willie Calhoun Returns With A Bang
Texas Rangers outfielder Willie Calhoun was activated from the injured list prior to Wednesday's game against the Houston Astros. He went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in the 7-2 loss. Calhoun fractured his forearm in late June and was sidelined up until Wednesday. He is slashing .258 with five home runs and nine doubles over 209 at-bats this season. The Rangers are likely going to get Calhoun in the lineup frequently down the stretch. This is a wait-and-see type of situation for fantasy purposes.

Wed Sep 15 202119:11Willie Calhoun Activated And Starting On Wednesday
The Texas Rangers have activated outfielder Willie Calhoun (arm) from the injured list. He is playing designated hitter and batting second in Wednesday's game against Jose Urquidy and the Houston Astros. Calhoun was out for about two and a half months after breaking his arm. He played in 59 games with the Rangers before the injury and slashed .254/.323/.385 with five home runs, 19 RBI and 23 runs. He could have some fantasy value in deep leagues or AL-only leagues in the final weeks of the season if he sees regular playing time. The Rangers demoted fellow outfielder Jason Martin to Triple-A to clear space for Calhoun.

Mon Sep 13 202118:48Willie Calhoun To Continue Rehab At Triple-A
Texas Rangers outfielder Willie Calhoun (forearm) had his rehab assignment moved to Triple-A on Monday. Calhoun had previously been on a rehab assignment at the Arizona Complex League, where he went 6-for-17 with a home run over five games. The 26-year-old has been sidelined since late June due to a fractured forearm. He played in 59 games with the Rangers this year prior to the injury and slashed .254/.323/.385 with five home runs, 19 RBI and 23 runs. Assuming he has no setbacks, there's a good chance he's back with the Rangers later this week or over the coming weekend.

Mon Sep 6 202120:28Willie Calhoun Begins Rehab Monday
Texas Rangers outfielder/designated hitter Willie Calhoun (forearm) will begin a rehab assignment in the Arizona Complex League on Monday, according to Levi Weaver of The Athletic. Calhoun has been on the injured list since June 27 after fracturing his left ulna in his forearm. He underwent surgery to fix the issue and has been working his way back since. Before being sidelined, Calhoun was hitting .254 with a .385 slugging percentage and five home runs across 59 games. Calhoun will likely need at least a few rehab games before he returns. Fantasy managers can likely leave Calhoun to the waiver wire once he returns, since he might not be up to full speed after missing over two months.

Sun Jun 27 202118:50Gallo homers again, Lyles strong as Rangers beat Royals 4-1
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Joey Gallo homered again, Jordan Lyles pitched seven strong innings after getting bumped from the rotation for one start, and the Texas Rangers finished a three-game sweep with a 4-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Sunday. The last-place Rangers have won three consecutive games for the first time since sweeping Houston at home from May 21-23, which they followed with an 0-9 trip on the way to tying a franchise record with 16 straight road losses. Texas is headed on the road again this time, a six-game trip that starts Tuesday at Oakland. The Rangers had a 3-19 slide after the sweep of Houston but now have won five of seven. “I’ve told this team many times, we’re obviously young, there’s obviously a lot of growth and development going on,” manager Chris Woodward said. “At the same time, we’re competitive. We want to win. What we went through before was kind of important for us to get through and come out the other side.” Whit Merrifield had an RBI single among... [More]

Whit Merrifield had an RBI single among three hits as the Royals lost their fifth straight on a 10-game trip that matches their longest of the season. Kansas City is 4-17 since a five-game winning streak that put the club three games over .500. Gallo's two-run shot to the opposite field in left — his 16th of season and third in two games... [More]
Sun Jun 13 202102:06Phillies top Yankees 8-7 for 3rd straight walkoff victory
Jean Segura scored Ronald Torreyes with an infield single in the 10th inning for his second straight game-ending hit and the Philadelphia Phillies got a third consecutive walkoff win with an 8-7 victory over the New York Yankees on Saturday. After Yankees star DJ LeMahieu hit a tying, three-run homer in the ninth, Archie Bradley (2-1) pitched a perfect 10th to strand the designated runner. Travis Jankowski led off the bottom of the inning against Aroldis Chapman (4-2) by reaching on the pitcher’s error. Jankowski bunted, and Chapman fielded the ball, checked Torreyes at second, then huried a throw high to first. Torreyes advanced to third. Odubel Herrera popped out, then Segura hit a hard grounder to third baseman Gio Urshela, who dived toward the line to catch it but couldn’t relay the ball home ahead of Torreyes. Bryce Harper doubled, had two singles and drove in two for the Phillies, who have won five of six. Gary Sánchez hit a solo homer and had an RBI single, and Rougned Odor also... [More]
Tue Jun 8 202118:05Khris Davis DFA'd by Rangers, who want look at young players
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Khris Davis was designated for assignment Tuesday by the slumping Texas Rangers, a move more about the young team's standing than the struggles of the veteran slugger. Davis missed the first 34 games of the season because of a left quad strain, then hit .157 with two home runs and five RBIs in his 22 games. Texas got the 33-year-old Davis, who has a $16.75 million salary this season, when longtime starting shortstop Elvis Andrus was traded to Oakland in February. The Rangers recalled infielder/outfielder Eli White from Triple-A Round Rock. They have seven days to trade, release, or outright Davis to the minor leagues. General manager Chris Young and manager Chris Woodward both said the team needs to find out about its young players, and there will now be more opportunities to do that. “It's less about Khris Davis' performance and more about the club in general, the state of our group and where we are and what aligns with our goals for this year,” Young said. “This...
