Wed Feb 2814:33Tim Locastro Signs Minors Deal With Padres
The San Diego Padres have signed veteran outfielder Tim Locastro to a minor-league deal that includes an invitation to big-league spring training. The 31-year-old has played sparingly throughout his big-league career as he has accumulated just 616 plate appearances across parts of seven MLB campaigns. In that time, he has hit .228 with nine home runs but has also swiped 45 bases and scored an even 100 runs. He spent the 2023 season with the Mets where he hit .232 with two HR, six SB, and a .731 OPS across 67 trips to the plate, production that graded out 9% superior to the league average, as per his 109 wRC+. Locastro doesn't offer much with his bat but his speed could land him a depth role with the Friars this season.

Sat Aug 12 202318:35Tim Locastro Activated, Playing On Saturday
New York Mets outfielder Tim Locastro (thumb) has been activated from the 60-day injured list on Saturday. The 31-year-old speedster has been sidelined since mid-May due to a thumb injury. Before going down, Locastro went hitless in seven plate appearances with four stolen bases. He'll bat ninth and play center field versus right-hander Spencer Strider on Saturday. There won't be much fantasy value from Locastro outside of his speed.

Fri May 19 202321:55Tim Locastro May Need Surgery
According to Mets skipper Buck Showalter, outfielder Tim Locastro (thumb) may need surgery. The 30-year-old hasn't done anything all season, going hitless in seven at-bats (11 games). Unfortunately, while working his way back from back spasms at Triple-A Syracuse, he suffered a UCL sprain in his right thumb and found his way to the 60-day injured list on Friday. That said, Locastro hasn't offered anything to fantasy managers in 2023, so the latest update on his health won't mean a thing.

Mon Jan 9 202315:24Tim Locastro Signs With Mets
The New York Mets signed free-agent outfielder Tim Locastro to a minor-league deal on Monday that includes an invitation to major-league spring training, according to sources. Locastro will stay in the Big Apple after playing in 38 games for the New York Yankees in 2022. In those 38 games, he hit .186/.239/.349 with a .588 OPS, two home runs, four RBI, 13 runs scored and eight stolen bases in 46 plate appearances. The 30-year-old speedster will give the Mets some outfield depth, but he's not much to look at from an offensive standpoint and won't have any fantasy appeal entering the 2023 season. In six major-league seasons, Locastro has a .227/.325/.331 slash line with seven long balls, 35 RBI, 87 runs scored and 39 stolen bases.

Mon Jul 18 202200:00Tim Locastro Homers, Swipes Two Bags
New York Yankees outfielder Tim Locastro took advantage of a rare start Sunday, going 3-for-5 at the plate with a home run, two RBI, two runs scored, and two stolen bases. He now has two homers and six steals in just 17 games and 22 plate appearances this season. The 30-year-old speedster has split his time between Triple-A and the majors this season, but he may have earned himself some more playing time with this performance and other outfield options struggling. He'd offer a major boost for fantasy players in the steals category with regular at-bats.

Sun Apr 17 202211:35Tim Locastro Starting On Sunday
New York Yankees outfielder Tim Locastro was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and is starting in left field and hitting ninth on Sunday against Baltimore Orioles left-hander Bruce Zimmermann. Locastro is likely to serve as outfield depth for as long as he remains on the Yankees major league roster. The 29-year-old hit just .180 with two home runs, seven RBI and five stolen bases in 64 games with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Yankees last year, and he has a career .231/.333/.329 slash line with five home runs, 31 RBI and 31 steals in 209 games over five major league seasons. He'll be a long shot to return any DFS value in his season debut Sunday.

Sun Mar 13 202214:42Yankees Sign Tim Locastro To One-Year Deal
The New York Yankees have signed outfielder Tim Locastro to a one-year Major League contract. Locastro briefly played for the Yankees last year, appearing in nine games with the team before suffering an ACL injury. The Yankees placed him on waivers and he was claimed by the Boston Red Sox, but eventually let go. Locastro is known for his base-stealing prowess. Over 209 MLB games, he's converted 31 of his 34 stolen base attempts. He likely won't be much more than an occasional starter and pinch-runner for the Pinstripes.

Wed Dec 1 202113:32Red Sox Non-Tender Tim Locastro
Outfielder Tim Locastro is on the move again, as the Boston Red Sox have opted not to tender him a contract. He will now become a free agent. The speedy Locastro played for both the Arizona Diamondbacks and New York Yankees in 2021 before an ACL injury ended his season. He was claimed off of waivers by Boston on November 5, but his stint with the club proved to be short-lived. As long as his recovery goes to plan, Locastro should have no trouble catching on with a team in need of a baserunning and defense boost, as he's stolen 31 bases in 34 career attempts and is consistently at the top end of sprint speed metrics.

Wed Jul 28 202122:54Brewers add All-Star 3B Escobar in trade with Diamondbacks
PHOENIX (AP) — The Milwaukee Brewers acquired All-Star third baseman Eduardo Escobar from the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday for two prospects. The 32-year-old Escobar made his first All-Star game this season and is batting .246 with 22 homers. The switch-hitter should be a valuable and versatile piece for the first-place Brewers, who are trying to lock down the NL Central. “We’re talking about a very accomplished switch-hitter," said David Stearns, Milwaukee's president of baseball operations. “He’s got tremendous positional versatility, can play all over the field, infield and outfield. "He gives us a lot of options, and one of the things that we are trying to accomplish prior to the (trade deadline) is preparing ourselves for the unknown of what could happen over the next two months.” Milwaukee could use some extra pop in the lineup, especially in the coming weeks. Star outfielder Christian Yelich recently went on the COVID-19 injured list and is expected to miss at least another... [More]

Star outfielder Christian Yelich recently went on the COVID-19 injured list and is expected to miss at least another week. Escobar said it was tough to leave Arizona, where he had career highs with 35 homers and 118 RBIs in 2019, but it was exciting to have an opportunity to be in the postseason hunt. “I love this team. I have really good people here, really good friends,” Escobar said of the Diamondbacks. “But at the end of the day, it’s a new opportunity for me. I’m so happy that the organization in Milwaukee is giving me an opportunity... [More]

Escobar has played third, second and shortstop for the Diamondbacks this season and has played the outfield earlier in his career. He was one of the few bright spots for Arizona this season, which has MLB's worst record at 31-71 going into Wednesday. “We’re happy with the two players we got from the Brewers,” Arizona general manager Mike Hazen said. “I think anytime we’re trading someone like Eduardo off our team it’s certainly... PITTSBURGH (AP) — Tyler Anderson pitched seven sparkling innings and the Pittsburgh Pirates snapped Milwaukee’s 11-game winning streak Sunday with a 2-0 victory over the Brewers. Fri Jul 2 202116:57Yanks' Frazier goes on IL with vertigo; Locastro fills spot
NEW YORK (AP) — Clint Frazier was put on the 10-day injured list by the New York Yankees with vertigo, three years after a concussion hampered him an entire season. The 26-year-old left Wednesday's game against the Los Angeles Angels in the third inning because of dizziness. New York filled the roster spot Friday with outfielder Tim Locastro, obtained a day earlier from Arizona for right-hander Keegan Curtis. The 28-year-old Locastro hit .178 with one homer and five RBIs in 118 at-bats this season. Given the starting left field job before spring training, Frazier slumped to a .186 average, five homers and 15 RBIs in 183 at-bats and lost playing time to 37-year-old Brett Gardner and Miguel Andújar. He sustained a concussion on Feb. 24, 2018, when he hit an outfield wall during a spring training game against Pittsburgh at Bradenton, Florida. Symptoms lingered and he was limited to 15 major league games and 54 in the minors. Frazier said the following spring training he was over the concussion.... [More]

Wed May 12 202119:06Injuries hit D-backs again with Gallen, Walker on 10-day IL
PHOENIX (AP) — The Arizona Diamondbacks continued to deal with a surge of early-season injuries, putting starting pitcher Zac Gallen and first baseman Christian Walker on the 10-day injured list Wednesday. Gallen has a sprained right ulnar collateral ligament, which is the ligament replaced in Tommy John surgery. Walker has a sore right oblique; a similar injury put him on the IL earlier this season. Gallen has emerged as one of baseball’s top young pitchers. He finished ninth in the NL Cy Young Award voting last season and had a 3.04 ERA through five starts this year. Manager Torey Lovullo was confident the D-backs’ medical team caught Gallen’s injury early, saying the elbow sprain was “minor” and that he was hopeful the 25-year-old would be able to avoid having the Tommy John procedure. “We have multiple opinions that are coming in and as of right now, it looks like we’re going to reassess in a couple weeks,” Lovullo said. Gallen missed his first start of the season with a hairline fracture... [More]
