Tue Feb 2013:11Andrew Benintendi Dealt With Hand Injury Last Year
Chicago White Sox outfielder Andrew Benintendi (hand) said he was hindered by a hand injury in 2023 and focused on getting stronger this winter. "Added a little bit of weight. I think this was one of my best offseasons, as far as working out and getting stronger. We'll see how it translates, hopefully it does. Time will tell," Benintendi said. The 29-year-old left-handed hitter had surgery on his right hamate bone, which ended his 2023 season prematurely. It could help explain why he hit just .262/.326/.356 with only five home runs, 45 RBI, 13 stolen bases and 72 runs scored in 562 at-bats in his first year in the Windy City. Due to lack of better options, he's the leading candidate to hit leadoff for the Pale Hose in 2024, too, so with better healthy, perhaps Benintendi will be a candidate for a decent bounce-back this year.

Mon Feb 1918:14Andrew Benintendi A Candidate To Hit Leadoff
Chicago White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said that outfielder Andrew Benintendi is a candidate to hit leadoff for the team this season. It sounds like Benintendi will be the favorite to hit at the top of Chicago's order regularly. The 29-year-old left-handed hitter didn't do much to move the fantasy needle in his first year in the Windy City in 2023, slashing .262/.326/.356 with five home runs, 34 doubles, two triples, 45 RBI, 13 stolen bases and 72 runs scored in 151 games and 621 plate appearances. Benintendi rarely squared the ball up at the plate and also didn't play very good defense in left field. The Pale Hose don't have many other options atop the lineup, though, so Benintendi will likely get the first crack. Outside of a decent batting average, Benintendi has a low ceiling for fantasy managers again in 2024.

Fri Jul 14 202316:10Andrew Benintendi Healed Up After All-Star Break
Chicago White Sox outfielder Andrew Benintendi (wrist) is back in the starting lineup on Friday, playing left field and batting leadoff against Atlanta Braves right-hander Charlie Morton to kick off the second half of the season. Benintendi was held out of the first-half finale last Sunday due to a right-wrist injury, but he got the rest he needed during the All-Star break this week and is good to go now. The 29-year-old left-handed hitter is hitting a nice .280 (88-for-314) with a strong .347 on-base percentage, but he only has one home run through 85 games in his first year in the Windy City. Fantasy managers will certainly be hoping that his wrist issues are behind him and he can display more pop in the second half.

Sun Jul 9 202313:32Andrew Benintendi Dealing With A Wrist Issue
Chicago White Sox outfielder Andrew Benintendi (wrist) has been kept out of the last two contests due to a wrist issue. Per manager Pedro Grifol, the wrist has bothered Benintendi most of the season so they held him out of the last two contests to give him nearly a week's rest with the All-Star break coming up. The team is hoping he can avoid a stint on the injured list and will be ready to go for next Friday's series opener against the Atlanta Braves. The fact that the 29-year-old has been dealing with this issue all season would go a long way in explaining his power drain, he has just one long ball in 314 at-bats this year.

Sat Jul 8 202313:38Andrew Benintendi Taking A Seat On Saturday
Chicago White Sox outfielder Andrew Benintendi is not in the starting lineup on Saturday against the St. Louis Cardinals. The 29-year-old is sitting out while rookie Zach Remillard draws the start at second base and bats leadoff while Luis Robert Jr., Oscar Colas, and Gavin Sheets round out the White Sox outfield. Benintendi hasn't really justified the hefty contract that he signed in the offseason so far, slashing .280/.347/.369 with one home run, 23 RBI, and nine stolen bases over 314 at-bats. He should be back out there for the series finale on Sunday.

Sun Jun 18 202310:09Andrew Benintendi Posts First Four-Hit Game Since 2021
Chicago White Sox outfielder Andrew Benintendi closed 4-for-5 with one run scored, one walk, and one stolen base in a 4-3 extra-inning win over the Seattle Mariners on Saturday. The 28-year-old direly needed a jolt to his nondescript White Sox debut season and fantasy managers hope his first game with three hits or greater of the campaign serves as that impetus. This effort comes on the heels of Benintendi smacking his first home run of the season on Friday, so he could become a waiver wire pickup in shallow leagues with a few more encouraging outings. The 2022 All-Star is slashing a modest .293/.383/.414 with one homer, eight RBI, and four swipes over his previous 99 at-bats, so he's not totally far off from shallow-league relevance.

Tue May 23 202314:30Andrew Benintendi Drops To Sixth In Tuesday's Starting Lineup
Chicago White Sox outfielder Andrew Benintendi has been demoted to sixth in the starting lineup Tuesday versus the Cleveland Guardians. It's just the fifth start out of the six-hole for the former top Red Sox prospect as he's largely hit second of late. However, the drop in the order can be attributed to left-hander Logan Allen getting the nod for the Guardians. Benintendi, who will carry a nine-game hitting streak into Tuesday's contest, has actually handled same-handed pitching well this season as per his .286 average and .748 OPS against them, but he's still without a home run across 189 trips to the plate on the season. Jake Burger is hitting out of Benintendi's usual two-hole Tuesday night in Cleveland.

Wed May 3 202308:35Andrew Benintendi Still Isn't 100 Percent
According to Chicago White Sox manager Pedro Grifol, outfielder Andrew Benintendi's (elbow) right elbow is "not even close to 100 percent," James Fegan of The Athletic reports. The 28-year-old was hit by a pitch on his elbow during Friday's contest and missed two straight games Saturday and Sunday. However, he was able to play on Tuesday and went 1-for-5 with an RBI. Fantasy managers can expect to see Benintendi in the lineup despite his ailment, but his performance may be lacking until he's fully healed. The former top prospect is slashing .277/.330/.327 with 14 runs, six RBI, and four steals and is still searching for his first home run through 26 games.

Tue May 2 202315:33Andrew Benintendi Returns Against Twins
Chicago White Sox outfielder Andrew Benintendi (elbow) is back in the starting lineup on Tuesday against right-hander Joe Ryan and the Minnesota Twins, playing left field and hitting second in the lineup. It will be Benintendi's first game action since leaving last Friday's contest early after he was hit by a pitch in the elbow. Monday's off day was ideal for the 28-year-old left-handed hitter, and he's back in there for the start of a series against the Twins. Fantasy managers will want to get him back into their lineups in redraft leagues. Benintendi is off to a fine start in his first year with the Pale Hose, as he's hitting .281 (27-for-96) with five doubles, five RBI and four stolen bases in 25 games, but he's still searching for his first long ball in 2023.

Sun Apr 30 202312:50Tim Anderson, Andrew Benintendi Could Be Back Tuesday
Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson (knee), outfielders Andrew Benintendi (elbow) and Luis Robert Jr. (hamstring) and infielder Hanser Alberto (quadriceps) could all return to the team by Tuesday. Anderson is the biggest name on this list. He has been out just under three weeks with a knee sprain, but he began a minor-league rehab assignment and is expected back early next week. Anderson's return as the regular shortstop will push Elvis Andrus back to second base and Lenyn Sosa to the bench. Benintendi is missing his second straight game on Sunday after getting hit by a pitch in the elbow on Friday. X-rays came back negative, though, and the 28-year-old is considered day-to-day. The White Sox have an off day on Monday.

Sat Apr 29 202316:35Andrew Benintendi Sitting Out On Saturday
Chicago White Sox outfielder Andrew Benintendi (elbow) is being held out of the starting lineup against the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday. White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said Benintendi is dealing with some minor elbow soreness. Benintendi underwent precautionary X-rays, but they came back negative. The expectation is that Benintendi will return for Sunday's series finale. Adam Haseley will start in his place in left field and bat seventh against righty Calvin Faucher on Saturday.

Wed Apr 12 202310:21Andrew Benintendi Leading Off Again Wednesday
Chicago White Sox outfielder Andrew Benintendi is batting leadoff for the second consecutive game on Wednesday, according to MLB.com. He'll face Sonny Gray and the Minnesota Twins. With Tim Anderson (knee) on the shelf for the time being, the Sox will likely keep Benintendi at the top of the lineup until the shortstop returns. The 28-year-old is still trying to get into a groove in his first season as a member of Chicago, as he's batting .261 with a .610 OPS. Benintendi's swiped a couple of bags and scored nine runs but has yet to go yard and has just a pair of RBI. He's been a solid fantasy option the last couple of seasons, and a year ago slashed .304/.373/.399 with five homers, 54 runs, 51 RBI, and eight steals across 126 games. Fantasy managers will want to take advantage of Benintendi leading off while they can.

Fri Apr 7 202314:54Andrew Benintendi Resting On Friday
Chicago White Sox outfielder Andrew Benintendi (rest) is out of the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The left-handed slugger will get a routine day off here. In his absence, Romy Gonzalez will cover left field and bat eighth versus left-hander Rich Hill. Gonzalez doesn't have great upside with the bat, so DFS players can probably find a better option on Friday. The expectation is that Benintendi returns to the lineup after this game.

Sun Feb 26 202321:16Andrew Benintendi To Make Team Debut On Monday
Chicago White Sox outfielder Andrew Benintendi is scheduled to make his Cactus League debut with his new team on Monday. The left-hander slugger has been a full participant during the early stages in camp. He signed a five-year $75 million contract over the offseason. Benintendi earned that contract after hitting .304/.373/.399 with five homers 51 RBI and eight stolen bases last season. Surprisingly, Benintendi has been outside the top-200 in early fantasy drafts. The expectation is that he'll regress a bit in 2023, but should remain a reliable fantasy contributor.

Wed Jan 4 202300:18White Sox, Andrew Benintendi Finalize Deal Tuesday
The Chicago White Sox and free agent outfielder Andrew Benintendi finalized a five-year, $75 million deal Tuesday that includes a $3 million signing bonus, per MLB.com's Scott Merkin. The deal represents the largest guaranteed contract given out in franchise history. The 28-year-old will provide defensive stability in the White Sox's outfield as well as a solid bat, as he slashed .304/.373/.399 with five home runs, 51 RBI, and eight stolen bases in 521 plate appearances in 2022 with the Royals and Yankees. Benintendi's strong plate discipline and speed are fantasy assets, although his lack of power limits his fantasy upside.

Fri Dec 16 202217:11Andrew Benintendi Goes To White Sox On Five-Year Deal
The Chicago White Sox and free-agent outfielder Andrew Benintendi agreed to a five-year deal worth $75 million on Friday. Benintendi began the 2022 season playing for the Kansas City Royals, but he was acquired by the New York Yankees after 93 games and played in 33 games in the Bronx before his season ended prematurely due to a wrist injury. He was named an All-Star last year for the first time and finished with a .304/.373/.399 slash line, five home runs, 51 RBI, 54 runs scored and eight stolen bases in 521 combined plate appearances over 126 games. The 28-year-old should no longer be considered a threat for a 20-20 season, but he could be a nice source of average, on-base percentage and runs scored in a dangerous White Sox lineup in the years to come. Benintendi will certainly be a boost to Chicago's injury-prone outfield.

Wed Dec 7 202200:18Astros Interested In Michael Conforto, Andrew Benintendi
The Houston Astros are interested in free-agent outfielders Michael Conforto and Andrew Benintendi as potential options to play left field, per MLB.com's Brian McTaggart. Both are left-handed hitters and would complement the host of right-handed hitters in the Astros' current lineup. Conforto did not play in 2022 due to shoulder surgery, but he compiled a .255/.356/.468 slash line in seven seasons with the New York Mets. Benintendi had a decent season with the Royals and Yankees, slashing .304/.373/.399 with five home runs, 51 RBI and eight steals. While neither offers a ton of upside from a fantasy perspective, either player's value would certainly be higher if they held an everyday role in the Astros' lineup.

Mon Oct 17 202217:07Andrew Benintendi Still Experiencing Wrist Pain
The New York Yankees could get pitchers Frankie Montas (shoulder) and Ron Marinaccio (leg) back for the American League Championship Series if they advance, but they are less certain about outfielder Andrew Benintendi (wrist), who is still experiencing wrist pain. He had a new injection this week. Benintendi has been ramping up his baseball activities with hopes of rejoining the team if they advance past the Cleveland Guardians in Game 5 of the AL Division Series on Monday, but he's looking iffy now if the Yankees actually advance. The 28-year-old last played for the Yankees on Sept. 2, and it's uncertain if he'd even be in play for the Bombers as a starter in the ALCS if he's healthy enough to be included on the roster.

Fri Oct 14 202211:57Andrew Benintendi Hitting Off Pitching Machine
New York Yankees outfielder Andrew Benintendi (wrist) hit off a high-velocity pitching machine on Thursday and will travel to Tampa to begin taking live at-bats. He could be activated from the injured list if the Yankees advance to the American League Championship Series next week. He hasn't played since Sept. 2 due to his wrist injury, but the Yankees could decide to include him on their roster if they advance past the Cleveland Guardians in the Division Series. The 28-year-old left-handed hitter would only boost an already potent Yankees lineup for the postseason. Benintendi played in only 33 games in the Bronx after being acquired from the Kansas City Royals, and he went 29-for-114 (.254) with two homers, 12 RBI, 14 runs and four steals in those 33 contests.

Thu Sep 22 202217:59Andrew Benintendi Unlikely To Return Before Playoffs
New York Yankees outfielder Andrew Benintendi (hand, wrist) said "it's pretty safe to say the regular season is out" for his return to the team. Benintendi is hoping to be part of the team's postseason roster, but he's not sure yet when he'll resume swinging a bat. The 28-year-old suffered a broken hamate bone and had surgery to fix it earlier this month. Fantasy managers will be without him the rest of the way in 2022, so he should have already been dropped to the waiver wire in single-year leagues. In 33 games with the Yankees after being acquired from the Kansas City Royals, the first-time All-Star hit .254/.331/.404 with two home runs, 12 RBI, 14 runs scored and four stolen bases.
