Fri Mar 821:00Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Says “He’s Fine” After HBP
Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (hand) says he feels fine after leaving Friday's spring training game versus the Chicago Cubs. He was hit in the hand by a fastball from Cubs pitcher Kyle Hendricks and was removed from the game shortly after. He went 1-for-1 with a double before exiting Friday's contest. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo described it as a hand contusion and said no X-rays were needed. The 30-year-old is considered day-to-day and could be ready to play as soon as Saturday. He is hitting .389 with a home run and four RBI over seven games this spring. Gurriel is a solid pick at his current NFBC ADP of 224 and will look to build on his 2023 campaign, where he hit 24 homers and logged 82 RBI over 554 at-bats in 2023.

Sun Dec 17 202316:18Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Running It Back With Arizona
Outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. will re-sign with the Arizona Diamondbacks on a three-year deal. Gurriel can opt out after year two and there is a club option for a fourth year. The 30-year-old made his first All-Star appearance in 2023. Gurriel Jr. was part of a December 2022 trade, moving from the Toronto Blue Jays with Gabriel Moreno to Arizona for Daulton Varsho. 2023 saw the Cuban regain the pop he was without in 2022. He ended up with a .463 slugging percentage and a career-high 24 home runs. Gurriel Jr. was a much better hitter at Chase Field last season with a 119 OPS+ compared to 97 on the road. He does not need to be earned in all fantasy leagues but he's a decent four-category contributor for managers who roster him.

Gurriel is hitting .262 (140-for-535) with 24 homers, 81 RBI, four stolen bases and 65 runs scored on the year and should be returned to fantasy lineups in a good matchup on Thursday.

Fri Aug 18 202319:15Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Returns To Friday's Action
Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (hip) has returned to the starting lineup on Friday and is serving as the designated hitter and batting fifth in the order against San Diego Padres right-hander Seth Lugo. Gurriel missed the series opener in San Diego on Thursday after leaving Wednesday's game against the Colorado Rockies early with a bruised left hip. It wasn't a serious injury, though, and the 29-year-old will be available again for his fantasy managers. Gurriel will look to keep his bat hot on Friday, as he's gone 16-for-49 (.327) with four home runs, two doubles, seven RBI, two stolen bases and eight runs scored in 14 games (13 starts) so far in August. He made the All-Star team in his first year in Arizona and is currently batting .258 (106-for-411) with 19 home runs, 64 RBI, four steals and 49 runs in 108 games played. Thu Aug 17 202318:44Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Not Seen In Thursday’s Lineup
Arizona Diamondbacks designated hitter/outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (hip) is out of Thursday's lineup against the San Diego Padres. The 29-year-old came out of Wednesday's contest with a left hip contusion and will miss at least one game with the setback. Consider Gurriel day-to-day. It's an inopportune time to go down since he was trending up in August with a .327 BA (16-for-49), four home runs, seven RBI, and two stolen bases in 14 games this month. Tommy Pham checks in at left field to bat third while Kyle Lewis is DHing out of the leadoff spot versus veteran left-hander Rich Hill on Thursday.

Overall, he's slashing .256/.306/.465 with 18 home runs, 61 RBI, and three stolen bases over 398 at-bats. Mon Jun 12 202318:30Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Taking A Seat Monday
Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. is not in the starting lineup Monday versus the Philadelphia Phillies and left-hander Matt Strahm. The 29-year-old had been dealing with a groin injury of late and went 0-for-5 with an RBI in Sunday's win over the Tigers. It's interesting to see the righty-swinging outfielder sitting against a left-handed Strahm but perhaps the club is easing its left fielder back into action. Gurriel exploded for a .352 batting average and 1.130 OPS in the month of May but has been cooled off to the tune of a .211 BA and .776 OPS so far in June. Evan Longoria will serve as the club's designated hitter Monday while Corbin Carroll slides over the left field.

For the moment, the D-Backs will wait and hope Gurriel can return at some point during the weekend. Fantasy managers should continue to hold the 29-year-old slugger through the injury.

Wed Jun 7 202314:29Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Remains Out Of The Lineup Wednesday
Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. is not in Wednesday's starting lineup against the Nationals as he continues to deal with a groin injury. Wednesday marks the third straight absence for Gurriel, who could be available off the bench, while any potential injured list stint would be retroactive to June 4. After a sluggish start, Gurriel caught fire in the month of May to the tune of a .352 average with a 1.130 OPS across 101 trips to the plate for the month while he hit eight of his nine home runs for the season in May. Fantasy managers will need to exercise some patience when it comes to the streaking outfielder.

Sat May 13 202318:51Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Starting Saturday On The Bench

The 29-year-old has been solid with the bat, batting .310 with five dingers, 23 runs, and 20 RBI over 35 games. Alek Thomas will play in the outfield instead, batting eighth. He's been cold at the dish, running a .198 average with two homers, three steals, and a .589 OPS. Thomas has been much better against right-handers, though, as he's slashing .274/.333/.466, so he may be a productive streaming option for Saturday with right-hander Anthony DeSclafani on the hill.
