Sun Mar 1013:03Ryne Stanek Signs With Mariners
The Seattle Mariners have signed free-agent relief pitcher Ryne Stanek on Sunday. The right-hander will receive a one-year $4 million deal. Stanek has bounced around a bit during his career but has been solid wherever he goes. Most notably, Stanek posted a 2.90 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, and 196/89 K/BB ratio over 173 2/3 innings since 2021 with the Houston Astros. The right-hander had a below-average season in 2023, but he deserves the benefit of the doubt. Stanek should immediately slide into a high-leverage role in Seattle.

Fri Mar 812:11Ryne Stanek Reaches Agreement With Mariners
The Seattle Mariners have signed reliever Ryne Stanek to a contract, although the financial terms of the deal have yet to be disclosed. The 32-year-old has spent the previous three seasons with the Houston Astros but will now look to lock down a bullpen spot in Seattle. The right-hander posted a 4.09 ERA across 55 appearances in Houston last season but also worked to an eye-popping 1.15 ERA across 59 outings in the 2022 season, albeit alongside peripherals that suggested the regression that took place in 2023. Nonetheless, Stanek is the owner of a career 3.45 ERA across 338 outings between the Rays, Marlins, and Astros and should be able to secure a spot with the Mariners in 2024.

Fri Jan 2620:49Cubs, Red Sox Express Interest In Ryne Stanek
The Chicago Cubs and Boston Red Sox are two big-market teams that have expressed interest in veteran free-agent reliever Ryne Stanek this winter. In his third season for the Houston Astros and seventh overall in the big leagues, Stanek had a 4.09 ERA (4.60 FIP), 1.24 WHIP, 21 walks and 51 strikeouts in 50 2/3 relief innings during the regular season last year. Stanek has the ability to operate as solid relief depth near the back end of a bullpen after recording a 2.90 ERA (3.91 FIP) and 1.23 WHIP with three saves, 89 walks and 196 strikeouts in 173 2/3 relief innings over the last three campaigns for Houston. The Red Sox, in particular, could use more bullpen depth, especially if they end up trading closer Kenley Jansen.

Tue Sep 5 202301:24Ryne Stanek Injures His Ankle Monday
Houston Astros relief pitcher Ryne Stanek (ankle) injured his ankle while covering first base on Monday in the game against the Texas Rangers and was eventually carted off the field. The severity of the injury is unknown at this time, but the fact that he was carted off the diamond probably means he's at least going to land on the injured list. Although the 32-year-old isn't the team's closer, an extended absence to close out the regular season would be tough on Houston's bullpen. Stanek came into Monday's game with a 3.88 ERA (4.20 FIP), 1.23 WHIP, 21 walks and 49 strikeouts in 48 2/3 relief innings in 2023. He had allowed an earned run on two hits (one homer) with no walks or K's without recording an out on Monday to raise his ERA to 4.07 on the year.

Sat Oct 22 202223:02Ryne Stanek Strikes Out The Side Saturday
Houston Astros relief pitcher Ryne Stanek struck out the side in a scoreless inning of relief work in Game 3 of the ALCS. Stanek has only thrown two innings this postseason, but he has struck out four while not allowing a baserunner in those frames. After a terrific regular season where he put up a 1.13 ERA and 1.23 WHIP with a 62:31 K:BB ratio, Stanek has continued to dominate in the playoffs. He is part of a great bullpen, an underrated aspect of a Houston Astros team that looks destined for the World Series.

Sun Jul 25 202102:43Sandoval loses no-hitter in 9th, Angels beat Twins 2-1
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Patrick Sandoval had his no-hit bid broken up with one out in the ninth inning on a soft double by rookie Brent Rooker and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Minnesota Twins 2-1 on Saturday night. Sandoval, a 24-year-old lefty who began the game with a 3-13 career record, struck out a career-high 13. There have already been seven no-hitters in the majors this season. The big league record of eight was set in 1884, the first year overhand pitching was permitted. The Twins hadn’t come close to a hit until Rooker, who fanned his first three times up, flared an opposite-field fly that fell just inside the line in right. Sandoval (3-4) smiled after the ball fell, retired the next batter and then was pulled after 108 pitches. He walked one and hit two. Closer Raisel Iglesias allowed an RBI double to Josh Donaldson before getting his 21st save in 25 chances. José Berríos (7-5) allowed two unearned runs in seven innings in perhaps his final start for Minnesota. ASTROS 4, RANGERS... [More]

NEW YORK (AP) — Jacob deGrom was pulled from a do-it-all gem with right flexor tendinitis, a troubling diagnosis for the New York Mets that clouded a 3-2 victory over the San Diego Padres on Friday night. DeGrom (6-2) faced the minimum over six innings and ripped a two-run single, giving him five RBIs this season — compared to four earned runs allowed. He struck out 10 in the abbreviated outing. DeGrom left after 80 pitches and extending his scoreless streak to 22 innings. He had a no-hit bid until Wil Myers beat the shift with a weak grounder in the fifth. Blake Snell (2-3) allowed three runs in four-plus innings, and the Padres couldn’t do enough damage against New York’s bullpen.
