Tue Feb 600:13Brewers, Jakob Junis Agree To One-Year Deal Monday
The Milwaukee Brewers and free-agent pitcher Jakob Junis agreed to a one-year, $7 million deal, pending a physical, per The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal. The 31-year-old will be paid $4 million this season with a $3 million buyout on a mutual option. The Brewers currently have some holes to fill in their starting rotation, so Junis should have an opportunity. He made only four starts in 40 appearances for the Giants in 2023, going 4-3 with a 3.87 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and 26.2% strikeout rate in 86 innings pitched. Junis will first need to earn a stable rotation job and then prove he can produce in the role before earning fantasy managers' trust.

Sun Aug 21 202220:54Jakob Junis Avoids Serious Injury
San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Jakob Junis (hand) was forced to leave early during Sunday's start against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He was drilled by a 108 mph comebacker on the hand. The x-rays came back negative, so it sounds like the right-hander has avoided major injury. The organization will have Junis undergo further testing, so fantasy managers will have to stay tuned for more updates. There should be more details following a CT scan on Monday.

Fri Jul 8 202222:00Jakob Junis Set For Rehab Start On Monday
San Francisco Giants pitcher Jakob Junis (hamstring) is set to make a rehab start with the team's rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate on Monday. He threw two innings in a rehab start Thursday. The 29-year-old is expected to return right around the All-Star break. He owns a 2.63 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, and a 40:10 K: BB across 48 innings in 2022. The right-hander is expected to join the rotation once he returns to action. Fantasy managers should continue to stash Junis in all league formats as the right-hander could return within the next two weeks.

Wed May 25 202223:32Jakob Junis Earns Win Wednesday
San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Jakob Junis earned his second win of the season Wednesday, throwing six strong innings against the New York Mets. Junis held the Mets to just two runs on three hits and one walk while striking out four, giving him his first quality start of the year. Junis has appeared in six games on the campaign, with the four most recent being starts. He has completed at least five innings in all six outings, and he has only allowed more than two earned runs once. Junis is positioned to continue in the rotation going forward, and he could make for a solid streaming option in two-start weeks and favorable matchups.

Sat Nov 6 202115:38Jakob Junis Elects Free Agency
Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Jakob Junis has elected free agency. The 29-year-old Junis appeared as both a starter and a reliever this season, recording a 2-4 record with a 5.26 ERA and 1.40 WHIP in six starts and 16 appearances. He struck out 41 batters in 39 1/3 innings. Should Junis leave Kansas City, it will be just the second organization for him, as he's been with the Royals since being drafted in 2011. With 89 starts and a career 4.82 ERA to his name, Junis is likely to latch on somewhere as a depth option, and while he should not be selected in 2022 fantasy drafts, he could become relevant as the season progresses.

Wed Sep 1 202110:01Jakob Junis Strikes Out Six In His Return
Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Jakob Junis was called up from Triple-A ahead of the team's matchup against the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday. He started the game and pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing four hits, one walk and three earned runs while striking out six. The 28-year-old Junis showed flashes of success with the Royals earlier this year, but a rough patch led to his demotion to Triple-A. He continued to struggle at Triple-A this year, making nine starts and going 0-2 with a 5.48 ERA and 1.696 WHIP. If he remains in the Royals' rotation, his next start could come on Monday against the Baltimore Orioles.

BALTIMORE (AP) — Aaron Judge went deep twice and Gio Urshela delivered a key pinch-hit shot, leading the banged-up New York Yankees to a 5-4 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night. After Miguel Andújar singled and Kyle Higashioka walked, Urshela hit the second pinch-hit homer of his career off Travis Lakins (1-4) to erase a 4-2 deficit. The Yankees were missing several key players, including shortstop Gleyber Torres (COVID-19), center fielder Aaron Hicks (left wrist) and slugger Giancarlo Stanton, who was a late scratch with left quad tightness. Tue May 4 202102:33Wainwright comes off IL, helps Cards beat Mets 6-5
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Adam Wainwright came off the COVID-19 injured list and hung tough, St. Louis got a lights-out performance from its bullpen and the Cardinals beat New York for their fifth straight win. After the game, the Mets fired hitting coach Chili Davis and assistant hitting coach Tom Slater. New York has struggled badly with runners in scoring position this season, a trouble spot last year as well when Davis worked remotely because of coronavirus concerns. Several accomplished hitters are off to slow starts for the Mets, including $341 million newcomer Francisco Lindor. The Cardinals were clinging to a one-run lead in the ninth with two outs and a runner on base when the lights at Busch Stadium flickered, then went out for a moment. When play resumed, reliever Alex Reyes walked Pete Alonso before retiring Dom Smith on a flyball for the final out. Nolan Arenado and Harrison Bader homered to back Wainwright’s first win of the season. Four Cardinals relievers combined for 3 1/3 hitless... [More]

Tue Apr 27 202103:01LEADING OFF: D-backs keep pitching amid no-hitter debate
A look at what's happening around the majors today: ___ ARIZONA ARMS Right-hander Merrill Kelly (1-2, 7.71 ERA) starts for the Diamondbacks when they host Fernando Tatis Jr. and the Padres following a dominant pitching performance in a doubleheader at Atlanta. Madison Bumgarner tossed a seven-inning no-hitter against the Braves on Sunday after Zac Gallen threw a one-hit shutout in the opener. Bumgarner didn’t get credit for a no-hitter in the Major League Baseball record book. An MLB committee in 1991 ruled a no-hitter had to go at least nine innings and the Elias Sports Bureau — the sport’s official statistician — repeated that stance last year when seven-inning doubleheaders began. Bumgarner’s gem has ignited a lively debate among fans over whether it should count as a no-hitter. There currently are no plans by MLB to revisit the decision. SPRINGER AND SCHERZER Toronto manager Charlie Montoyo was optimistic that outfielder George Springer would finally be ready to make his Blue Jays debut... [More]
