Sat Jan 2712:12Guardians Sign Tyler Beede To Minor-League Deal
The Cleveland Guardians signed free-agent right-hander Tyler Beede to a minor-league deal with an invitation to major-league spring training on Saturday. The 30-year-old pitched for the Yomiuri Giants in Nippon Professional Baseball in 2023 and had a 4.08 ERA and 1.45 WHIP in 75 innings pitched. The former first-rounder wasn't very good in his four major-league seasons with the San Francisco Giants and Pittsburgh Pirates, going 7-16 with a 5.34 ERA (4.97 FIP), 1.56 WHIP and 163 strikeouts in 187 innings pitched over 58 appearances (29 starts). Beede will most likely begin the year at Triple-A Columbus in 2024 and will give the Guardians some extra pitching depth during the regular season.

The Pittsburgh Pirates designated right-hander Tyler Beede for assignment on Thursday and recalled left-hander Eric Stout from Triple-A Indianapolis in a corresponding move. The Pirates also designated left-hander Dillon Peters for assignment after he was returned from his minor league rehab assignment. In 31 appearances (five starts) for the Pirates and San Francisco Giants this year, Beede has posted a 5.14 ERA (4.99 FIP), a 1.63 WHIP, 39 strikeouts and 29 walks in 61 1/3 innings. All five of his starts have come with Pittsburgh. The 29-year-old allowed 30 earned runs on 57 hits (six homers surrendered) while walking 23 and striking out 35 in his 51 2/3 frames for the Bucs.

Thu May 12 202214:55Pirates Claim Tyler Beede Off Waivers
The Pittsburgh Pirates claimed right-hander Tyler Beede off waivers on Thursday, according to sources. Beede was designated for assignment by the San Francisco Giants on May 5, and he was a former first-round pick out of Vanderbilt back in 2014. The 28-year-old made 22 starts for the Giants in 2019, but he's made only seven relief appearances for San Francisco since then. In 9 2/3 innings of relief for the Giants this year, Beede allowed five earned runs on 14 hits while walking six and striking out four over six outings. In Pittsburgh, he could have a shot at returning to a starting role, although he won't be worth a look in standard-sized fantasy leagues.

Wed Dec 16 202021:58Giants sign RHP DeSclafani to $6 million, 1-year contract
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Right-hander Anthony DeSclafani signed a $6 million, one-year contract with the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday, giving the club a veteran option for the rotation alongside ace Johnny Cueto. The Giants still will look to add another top-tier starter, according to President of Baseball Operations Farhan Zaidi. “He was an early target for us. We've talked a good amount about looking to add some starting pitching to our roster and take some pressure off some of our younger pitchers,” Zaidi said. “DeSclafani is a guy that we think comes with some ceiling. He's got really good stuff, good velocity on the fastball, a lot of characteristics that we look for. Obviously didn't have his best season in 2020 but in 2019 he really had a nice year. That would be a great outcome for us if he can even get back to that level as recently as 2019. We think there's even upside beyond that.” In his sixth season with the Reds, DeSclafani went 1-2 with a 7.22 ERA over nine games — seven... [More]

Let's play two? Colorado Rockies manager Bud Black would be down for doubleheaders.Maybe even a couple a week. That might be a necessity to make up games once a baseball season delayed by the new coronavirus gets under way."In theory, yeah, I think all of us would be up for some sort of doubleheader situation," Black said during a conference call Thursday. “The thing that's going to be in front of all of us is it's going to be the same for everybody. It's got to make sense for the clubs and the players.”Opening day has been pushed back from March 26 to mid-May at the earliest, and both sides are committed to playing as many games as possible.Translation: Doubleheaders could be on the docket."I know that when we're able to safely play, we're going to have to think of creative ways to get in as many games as possible given all the time that's going to be lost," said Farhan Zaidi, the president of baseball operations for the San Francisco Giants. “I don't really have any specific thoughts on...
