Mon Jan 23 202316:42Ryan Sherriff Joins Red Sox
Free-agent left-hander Ryan Sherriff announced on his Twitter account over the weekend that he signed a minor-league deal with the Boston Red Sox. Sherriff spent all of 2022 in the minor leagues for the Philadelphia Phillies and had a nice 2.51 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, 18 strikeouts and seven walks in just 14 1/3 relief innings over three different levels. The 32-year-old southpaw reliever has spent four seasons in the majors and has a career 3.65 ERA (3.98 FIP), 1.31 WHIP, two saves and 18.7 percent strikeout rate in 44 relief outings covering 44 1/3 innings. If Sherriff is on Boston's major-league roster at any point in 2023, he won't be worth considering in fantasy leagues.

Sun Apr 3 202212:08Ryan Sherriff Shut Down With Biceps Soreness
Philadelphia Phillies relief pitcher Ryan Sherriff (biceps) is being shut down for a few days, according to Phillies manager Joe Girardi. The left-handed reliever, who was claimed off waivers by the Phillies this offseason, is dealing with biceps soreness. His availability for the start of the season is in question now. While prospective closer Corey Knebel and primary setup men Brad Hand and Jeurys Familia are all healthy and seemingly ready to go, the team's bullpen depth behind that trio is battered with injuries. In addition to Sherriff's injury, Jose Alvarado (neck) has yet to pitch this spring and Connor Brogdon (illness) is questionable for Opening Day.

Fri Nov 5 202115:44Phillies Claim Ryan Sherriff Off Waivers
The Philadelphia Phillies have claimed relief pitcher Ryan Sherriff off waivers from the Tampa Bay Rays. The left-handed Sherriff appeared in 16 games for the Rays in 2021, recording a 5.52 ERA and 1.57 WHIP with one save and 16 strikeouts in 14 2/3 innings. Sherriff has never been a high-strikeout option in either the majors or the minors, which will keep him off the fantasy radar in even the deepest holds leagues. He should be well off draft boards.

Thu Aug 5 202108:42Ryan Sherriff Notches First Save
Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Ryan Sherriff struck out one over a perfect ninth inning to earn the save in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Seattle Mariners. He entered Wednesday's game in the ninth inning to protect a one-run lead. The southpaw retired all three batters he faced to earn his first save of the season. Sherriff owns a 4.82 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, and a 10:4 K: BB across 9 1/3 innings in 2021. The Rays continue to use a closer-by-committee, and Sherriff was called up upon for Wednesday's save opportunity. Nick Anderson (elbow) and Pete Fairbanks (shoulder) are expected to handle ninth-inning duties for Tampa Bay once activated from the injured list. Fantasy managers desperate for saves can add Sherriff in the short term.
