Mon Apr 117:14Leody Taveras Sitting On Monday
Texas Rangers outfielder Leody Taveras is starting Monday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays on the bench after starting in each of the team's first three games over the weekend against the Chicago Cubs. With Taveras getting a breather, Travis Jankowski will get the start in center field and will hit ninth against Rays right-hander Ryan Pepiot. The 25-year-old Taveras has started the year going 2-for-9 with a double, two walks, three strikeouts and a run scored in his first 12 plate appearances. Jankowski has already matched his season total in home runs from last year by homering in his only plate appearance of 2024, but DFS managers should consider him a low-upside option for lineups on Monday versus the Rays while in the nine-hole.

Fri Mar 1508:36Leody Taveras Struggling This Spring
Texas Rangers outfielder Leody Taveras went 1-for-3 versus the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday. The 25-year-old has struggled this spring with a .200 batting average, but has swiped two bags. The Rangers young outfield prospects, Evan Carter and Wyatt Langford have been scorching hot this spring and their strong performances may move Taveras into a fourth outfielder role upon the 2024 season. Taveras hit a respectable .266 with with 14 homers, 67 RBI and 14 stolen bases in 2023, but Carter will lock down one of the outfield spots and the emergence of Langford gives the prospect a real opportunity to crack the Opening Day roster. If Langford makes the roster out of camp, Taveras will have minimum value in the fantasy community without an injury to open up more at-bats.

Fri Oct 20 202314:15Leody Taveras Moved Up To Five-Hole Friday
Texas Rangers outfielder Leody Taveras has been promoted to the five-hole for Friday night's ALCS Game 5 versus the Houston Astros and right-hander Justin Verlander. Tavares has spent each of the last seven games hitting out of the nine-hole at the bottom of the Rangers' lineup but Rangers skipper Bruce Bochy has juggled his lineup spots for Game 5, including moving struggling catcher Jonah Heim to the nine-spot. The promotion for Taveras certainly makes sense as he is hitting .321 with a homer, a double, a triple, and seven walks in 35 postseason plate appearances, good for a stealth .993 OPS. Along with his elite defense in center field, the 25-year-old has been one of the Rangers' most important players in these playoffs.

Thu Sep 14 202318:30Leody Taveras Sitting With Left-Hand Soreness
Texas Rangers outfielder Leody Taveras (hand) is out of Thursday's lineup against the Toronto Blue Jays. The 25-year-old is experiencing soreness in his left hand, which also caused his absence on Wednesday. It leaves Taveras day-to-day with his next day for a possible return arriving during Friday's series opener against the Cleveland Guardians. Top prospect Evan Carter is patrolling center field and batting ninth on Thursday. Taveras' strong defense has been joined by solid offense overall in 2023, as he's hitting .269 with 12 home runs, 60 RBI, 59 runs scored, and 14 stolen bases in 464 at-bats.

Wed Sep 13 202318:30Leody Taveras Scratched On Wednesday
Texas Rangers outfielder Leody Taveras (undisclosed) has been scratched ahead of Wednesday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays. The 25-year-old has been pulled from the lineup due to undisclosed reasons. Before this, Taveras had played in 23 straight games, so maybe his absence is rest related. Regardless, Evan Carter will fill in at center field and bat ninth versus left-hander Yusei Kikuchi on Wednesday. Fantasy managers who have Taveras rostered should check their lineups.

Fri Aug 18 202316:22Leody Taveras Sits Amidst Slump
Texas Rangers outfielder Leody Taveras is not in the starting lineup on Friday against the visiting Milwaukee Brewers. In his absence, rookie Julio Pablo Martinez is starting in center field and is batting seventh against Brewers right-hander Brandon Woodruff. The Rangers are hoping a day off for Taveras will help him turn things around at the plate in the month of August. Since the calendar flipped to August, he's gone 9-for-53 (.170) with no home runs, four doubles, a triple, five RBI, 15 strikeouts and three runs scored in 14 starts. The 24-year-old Dominican has provided modest power/speed numbers for fantasy managers in deep-mixed leagues in his fourth big-league season, though, hitting a career-high 11 home runs and stealing 11 bags while also driving in a career-high 54 runs in 105 games played.

Tue Aug 15 202319:43Leody Taveras Sitting Out Against Angels
Texas Rangers outfielder Leody Taveras is taking a day off on Tuesday against the visiting Los Angeles Angels. Taveras will get a much-needed day of rest after starting each of the team's last 32 games. Julio Pablo Martinez is making the start in center field and will hit seventh in the batting order against Angels right-hander Lucas Giolito. The 24-year-old Taveras has struggled mightily since the All-Star break, hitting .191 (20-for-105) with a homer, seven doubles, a triple, 14 RBI, 30 strikeouts, two stolen bases and eight runs scored in 28 starts. In his fourth big-league season, Taveras has set career-highs across the board in home runs (11), RBI (54) and runs scored (51) in 104 games while tying his career-high in stolen bases with 11.

Sat Jun 17 202310:36Leody Taveras Thumps Solo Shot To Prolong Hot Streak
Texas Rangers outfielder Leody Taveras went 1-for-3 with a solo home run to prevent his team from being shut out versus the Toronto Blue Jays in a 2-1 loss on Friday. The 24-year-old is compiling a very intriguing campaign overall with a career-best 18.7% strikeout rate and 45.5% hard-hit rate. Taveras is hitting .299 with an .842 OPS and seven big flies, 29 RBI, plus seven stolen bases this year. The speedy centerfielder is generally in the lineup for his glove, but he's waving a fearsome bat right now. Taveras is hitting .313 (26-for-83) with six long balls and 15 RBI going over his last 23 games for an extended hot streak. Performing to ninth-round value in mixed roto leagues on the year as a whole, the switch-hitter deserves to be rostered in far greater than just one-third of Yahoo leagues.

Sat Jun 10 202300:10Leody Taveras Belts Two Solo Shots In Rangers Loss
Texas Rangers outfielder Leody Taveras belted two solo home runs and drew a walk in an 8-3 loss to Tampa Bay Friday. The Rangers' offense struggled overall, managing only three hits throughout the game, all of which were home runs. Josh Jung contributed the other homer. Taveras now has five dingers, three coming in the past week. However, regarding stolen bases, he has been stagnant since May 16, with only five swiped bags. Nevertheless, despite the lack of stolen bases, Taveras continues to provide value to the team, especially with a .304 batting average in 168 plate appearances.

Mon Jun 5 202316:43Leody Taveras Back In The Lineup
Texas Rangers outfielder Leody Taveras (knee) is back in the starting lineup for Monday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. He suffered a bruised right knee during Saturday's game and was held out on Sunday as a precaution. It appears to be only a minor issue as Taveras is back on Monday. The 24-year-old is slashing .306/.360/.452 with three home runs, 23 RBI in 42 games this season. He'll play center field and bat ninth versus righty Adam Wainwright on Monday. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups and get Taveras back in there for this game.

Sun Jun 4 202313:40Leody Taveras Taking A Seat On Sunday
Texas Rangers outfielder Leody Taveras is absent from the lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Seattle Mariners. This is just a routine day off for the 24-year-old outfielder, who's been terrific this season for the Rangers. Taveras is slashing .306/.360/.452 with three home runs, 23 RBI, and five stolen bases over 157 at-bats. Travis Jankowski is taking over in center field and batting ninth against Bryce Miller and the M's.

Fri Jun 2 202301:06Leody Taveras Triples In Wednesday's Loss
Texas Rangers outfielder Leody Taveras went 1-for-4 with a triple in the Rangers' 3-2 loss to the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday. Taveras finished the month of May with a .368 average and two home runs after a quiet April that saw him hit .204 with no home runs. With playing time in the Rangers outfield up for grabs, it seems like Taveras has seized an everyday job, at least for the time being. Taveras stole 11 bases in 99 games last year and already has five steals in 42 games this year. In his fourth season in the majors, Taveras is on track to set career-highs in all five rotisserie categories if he can even come close to keeping this up.

Wed May 17 202312:26Leody Taveras Steals Fifth Base Of Season
Texas Rangers outfielder Leody Taveras went 1-for-2 with a run scored, a walk and his fifth stolen base of the season in Tuesday's 7-4 win over the visiting Atlanta Braves. Taveras has been pretty much lights-out so far in the month of May to raise his season slash line to a strong .297/.357/.416 with seven doubles, a triple, a home run, 13 RBI, five steals and 17 runs scored in 113 plate appearances over 29 games played. In 13 games so far this month, he's gone 19-for-47 (.404) with three doubles, a round-tripper, eight RBI and four stolen bases in 13 games. The numbers speak for themselves, but it would be nice if Taveras was hitting higher in Texas' batting order. If he continues to rake, we'll probably see him move up.

Sun May 7 202319:28Leody Taveras Records Four-Hit Game
Texas Rangers outfielder Leody Taveras put together one of his strongest performances of his career during Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Angels. The 24-year-old recorded a career-high four hits while batting in four runs during the 16-8 blowout victory over the Angels. The former top prospect has emerged as a viable everyday option for the Rangers this season. He's slashing .300/.372/.457 with one homer, 10 RBI, and two steals in 18 games. He could be a legitimate fantasy contributor, assuming he continues to get everyday at-bats in Texas.

Wed Apr 12 202316:01Rangers Place Corey Seager On IL, Activate Leody Taveras
The Texas Rangers placed shortstop Corey Seager (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday with a left hamstring strain and activated outfielder Leody Taveras (oblique) from the injured list in a corresponding move. Seager has a Grade 2 hammy strain, so he's expected to miss a minimum of four weeks. The 28-year-old injured himself on Tuesday. Fantasy managers will want to keep the star shortstop stashed everywhere, especially after he's hit .359 (14-for-39) with four doubles, a home run and four RBI in his first 11 games. Josh H. Smith is starting at the 6 on Wednesday and is hitting second against Kansas City Royals right-hander Brad Keller. Taveras should be the team's regular center fielder moving forward, and he's making his 2023 debut in the eight-hole on Wednesday.

Thu Apr 6 202315:12Leody Taveras Starting Rehab Assignment Thursday
Texas Rangers outfielder Leody Taveras (oblique) is starting his minor-league rehab assignment with Double-A Frisco on Thursday night. Taveras suffered a left oblique strain around a month ago in spring training, but he's nearing his 2023 debut for the Rangers, barring a setback in the minors. While it's a late start for the 24-year-old, he figures to be the team's starting center field when the Rangers deem him ready to return. Taveras is currently rostered in only two percent of Yahoo leagues, so fantasy managers in deep mixed leagues should consider picking him up now. He hit .261/.309/.366 with five home runs, 34 RBI and a career-high 11 stolen bases in 99 games for Texas last year, and he's most appealing for his speed as outfield depth.

Mon Apr 3 202312:15Leody Taveras Swinging From The Right Side
Texas Rangers outfielder Leody Taveras (oblique) has advanced to swinging from the right side, but he's still unlikely to be activated from the 10-day injured list when he's eligible on Friday. The 24-year-old switch-hitter is making some progress, but fantasy managers will have to be patient. He could go out on a short minor-league rehab assignment later this week/weekend, and if he doesn't have any setback, he could make his 2023 season debut early next week for the Rangers. Taveras is mostly interesting for his speed. In 99 games for the Rangers in his third MLB season in 2022, he slashed .261/.309/.366 with a .675 OPS, five home runs, 34 RBI, 39 runs scored and a career-high 11 stolen bases in 341 plate appearances.

Tue Mar 28 202310:20Leody Taveras Out Another Week
Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said that outfielder Leody Taveras (oblique) will miss "maybe a week" as he continues to recover from an oblique injury that has kept him out since March 3. The most likely option to fill in at center field for the Rangers with Taveras on the shelf is Adolis Garcia. In his third MLB season in 2022, Taveras hit .261/.309/.366 with a .675 OPS, five home runs, 34 RBI, 39 runs scored and 11 stolen bases in 314 plate appearances and 99 games. Bubba Thompson should also benefit from more playing time with Taveras on the injured to begin the 2023 regular season. Speed is by far Taveras' greatest asset to fantasy managers.

Fri Mar 24 202311:50Leody Taveras Could Avoid Injured List
Texas Rangers outfielder Leody Taveras (oblique) could avoid starting the 2023 regular season on the injured list, even if he's not ready to play by Opening Day next Thursday, March 30. Taveras is recovering from a left oblique strain and while he's been able to swing from the left side of the plate, the 24-year-old switch-hitter isn't quite ready from the right side. Manager Bruce Bochy said "there's a good chance you will see him at the back end of that first series (of the regular season against the Phillies)." The team should know more on Taveras' availability for the first series of the season early next week. If he misses any time, Bubba Thompson is likely to benefit with some starts in the outfield for Texas.

Mon Mar 6 202312:23Leody Taveras Has Low-Grade Oblique Strain
Texas Rangers outfielder Leody Taveras (oblique) has a "low-grade" left oblique strain, according to general manager Chris Young. It sounds like Taveras will be ready in a couple of weeks and he isn't being ruled out for the Opening Day roster. Young spoke highly of Bubba Thompson's ability to contribute, even if his defense is ahead of his offense. Moving Adolis Garcia to center field is also a possibility early in the season if Taveras isn't ready. Fantasy managers should prepare as if the 24-year-old Taveras won't be ready for the start of the regular season. When healthy, Taveras should see most of the playing time in center field, but he'll probably need to hit to hold off Thompson. Taveras' speed is elite.
