Mon Jan 821:26Jonathan Davis Returning To Marlins
The Miami Marlins re-signed outfielder Jonathan Davis to a minor-league deal on Monday that includes an invitation to major-league spring training. Davis will return to South Beach to provide outfield depth for the Fish. The 31-year-old right-handed hitter appeared in only 34 games for Miami in 2023 and hit .244 (22-for-90) with two home runs and 10 RBI before needing season-ending surgery for a torn meniscus in his knee. In six seasons in the big leagues with four different teams, Davis has a career .198/.295/.276 slash line with only six home runs, 30 RBI and 19 stolen bases in 205 games over 454 trips to the plate. There's a good chance that Davis will open the 2024 season at Triple-A Jacksonville. He won't be anywhere near the fantasy radar.

Wed Nov 1 202316:03Jonathan Davis, Enmanuel De Jesus, Jeff Lindgren Outrighted
The Miami Marlins outrighted outfielder Jonathan Davis (knee) and pitchers Enmanuel De Jesus and Jeff Lindgren to Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday. Davis loses his roster spot after having season-ending surgery on his right knee back in early July. He has been running since close to the end of the regular season, though, so he should be ready to go for the start of spring training in 2024. The 31-year-old hit .244 (22-for-90) with two homers and 10 RBI in 34 games for the Fish in 2023. Davis, 26, gave up eight runs in 6 1/3 innings in just two appearances in the big leagues this year. Lindgren, 27, also wasn't very good in limited duty in the big leagues in 2023, allowing four runs in just seven innings over three appearances in Miami.

Thu Jul 6 202316:47Jonathan Davis Expected To Miss 3-6 Months
Miami Marlins manager Skip Schumaker said the recovery timeline for outfielder Jonathan Davis (knee) following his right-meniscus surgery is three to six months. It means that Davis probably won't play again for the Fish in 2023 after injuring the meniscus in his right knee while diving for a ball in the outfield on Tuesday against the St. Louis Cardinals. The 31-year-old was set to see decent playing time in center field until Jazz Chisholm Jr. (oblique) returns from his latest stint on the injured list. Davis will likely finish his 2023 campaign with a .244/.307/.378 slash line with two home runs, 10 RBI, a steal and 22 runs scored in 34 games. Rookie Dane Myers is seeing a second straight start in center field for Miami on Thursday.

Wed Jul 5 202323:04Jonathan Davis To Have Knee Surgery Thursday
An MRI exam on Miami Marlins outfielder Jonathan Davis (knee) showed a right meniscus injury, and he'll have surgery on Thursday at the University of Miami. It's highly unlikely that Davis will play again in 2023 after injuring his right knee on a dive in the outfield during Tuesday's contest against the St. Louis Cardinals. The 31-year-old veteran will finish the year with a .244/.307/.378 slash line with only two home runs, four doubles, a triple, 10 RBI and 22 runs scored in 104 plate appearances and 34 games in his first year in Miami. Until Jazz Chisholm Jr. (oblique) is able to return from the injured list in the second half of the season, rookie Dane Myers could see a little short-term audition as Miami's regular center fielder. The 27-year-old made the start in center on Wednesday against the Cardinals and went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a strikeout in the 10-9 win.

Tue Jul 4 202316:04Jonathan Davis Dealing With Right-Knee Contusion
Updating a previous report, Miami Marlins outfielder Jonathan Davis (knee) suffered a right-knee contusion in Sunday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. Davis had to be carted off the field after landing awkwardly on his right knee while diving for a ball in center field, and he'll go for additional tests, including X-rays. Davis appears to have avoided a serious injury, but he could be rested the rest of the week with the All-Star break coming next week. He was replaced in center field by Dane Myers after going 0-for-2 with a strikeout in the contest. The 31-year-old came into Tuesday's game with a .250/.313/.386 slash line with only two home runs, four doubles, a triple, 10 RBI and 22 runs scored in 33 games in his first year in Miami.

Tue Jul 4 202315:45Jonathan Davis Leaves Game Early Tuesday
Miami Marlins outfielder Jonathan Davis (knee) was hobbled after diving for a line drive in right-center field on Tuesday against the St. Louis Cardinals and left the game early. Davis was checked out by trainers but was eventually carted off the field after landing awkwardly, and he could be dealing with a serious injury. Check back later for updates on his condition. He went 0-for-2 with a strikeout in the game before leaving early and was replaced in center field by Dane Myers. The 31-year-old came into the Fourth of July hitting .250 (22-for-88) with only two home runs, four doubles, a triple, 10 RBI, one stolen base and 22 runs scored in his 33 games for the Fish in 2023.

Tue Jan 31 202316:22Tigers Sign Jonathan Davis To Minor-League Deal
The Detroit Tigers signed free-agent center fielder Jonathan Davis to a minor-league deal on Monday. The deal includes an invite to big-league spring camp. The 30-year-old has played in 171 games in parts of five major-league seasons for three teams. He hit .224 with a .344 on-base percentage in 37 games with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2022. Davis also had no home runs, four RBI, nine runs scored and a career-high seven stolen bases in 91 plate appearances. He will have to show out in spring training and impress the coaching staff to have a shot at making the Opening Day roster as outfield depth. In his five MLB seasons, Davis has only four home runs, 20 RBI, 44 runs scored and 18 stolen bases in 350 plate appearances.

DUNEDIN, Fla. (AP) — Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Teoscar Hernández returned to the starting lineup Friday night against Atlanta after missing three weeks because of a positive test for the coronavirus. Hernández went on the injured list April 9 after he was exposed to an infected person outside the team. He started experiencing COVID-19 symptoms a few days later and tested positive. “It wasn't a happy moment,” Hernández said. “It wasn't happy days. It was bad for four, five days but then after that it was back to normal again. I made it through and I'm here now." Hernández said his wife first tested positive and later so did his son but both are fine now. His symptoms included body soreness, headaches and fever. “I was feeling a little sick,” Hernández said. “I think they were waiting for it because when you get exposed to somebody that close, you might end up getting the virus.” Hernández was planning to get vaccinated in early April but got ill before he could receive one. Fri Apr 2 202102:57Segura's hit in 10th lifts Phillies over Braves in opener
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Jean Segura hit an RBI single with two outs in the 10th inning to lift the Philadelphia Phillies over the Atlanta Braves 3-2 in their season opener Thursday. After Nate Jones (0-1) intentionally walked Did Gregorius, Segura hit a bouncer down the third-base line to score Bryce Harper, who began the inning as the automatic runner at second base and advanced to third on a grounder. In the top of the 10th, center fielder Roman Quinn made a perfect throw to the plate to retire Ozzie Albies, who was trying to score on Marcell Ozuna’s fly ball. Catcher J.T. Realmuto caught the ball and slid in front of the plate in one slick motion, successfully blocking Albies’ path. Phillies ace Aaron Nola was one strike away from tossing seven scoreless innings before pinch-hitter Pablo Sandoval ripped an 0-2 pitch into the second deck in right field to tie it at 2. The Phillies got 3 1/3 scoreless innings from four relievers, with Connor Brogdon (1-0) working the 10th. They had the worst... [More]
