Tue Mar 2616:00Dylan Carlson To Start On Injured List
St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Dylan Carlson (shoulder) has been diagnosed with a sprained AC joint in his left shoulder and will start the season on the injured list after colliding with teammate Jordan Walker in Monday's contest. A Cardinals official said that Carlson's absence will be weeks, "not a matter of months." St. Louis' outfield is a mess to begin the year, with Carlson joining Tommy Edman (wrist) and Lars Nootbaar (ribs) on the IL. It means that one of the team's top prospects, Victor Scott II, will now make the Opening Day roster and start in center field on Thursday versus the Los Angeles Dodgers. Michael Siani has also made the Opening Day roster and could see playing time in the outfield early on with Carlson, Edman and Nootbaar sidelined.

Tue Mar 2612:32Dylan Carlson Not Playing Tuesday
St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Dylan Carlson (shoulder) is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's exhibition game in Arizona against the Chicago Cubs, but shortstop Brandon Crawford (wrist) has returned after being hit by a pitch recently. Crawford is starting at shortstop and batting eighth. Carlson injured his left shoulder in Monday's Cactus League game when he collided with teammate Jordan Walker in the outfielder, and we still don't know the severity of the injury. With Opening Day right around the corner on Thursday against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Carlson may not be ready. Tommy Edman (wrist) and Lars Nootbaar (ribs) are on the injured list, so Michael Siani could be St. Louis' starting center fielder on Opening Day.

Mon Mar 2518:18Dylan Carlson Injures His Shoulder Monday
St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Dylan Carlson (shoulder) is dealing with a "left-shoulder injury" after colliding with teammate Jordan Walker in Monday's exhibition contest against the Chicago Cubs, according to the team. The severity of Carlson's injury has not been determined yet, so fantasy managers will want to check back for more information either later tonight or Tuesday morning. Outfielders Tommy Edman (wrist) and Lars Nootbaar (ribs) will start the year on the injured list, so the Cardinals can ill-afford to lose another outfielder to open the season. The 25-year-old Carlson is expected to be the regular center fielder in St. Louis, at least until Edman is able to return. If Carlson joins Edman and Nootbaar on the IL, Michael Siano could open the year with regular playing time, and prospect Victor Scott II would likely join the big-league roster.

Sat Mar 1612:13Dylan Carlson, Victor Scott II, Michael Siani Competing For CF Job
St. Louis Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said that the Opening Day center field job is still open and he is not ready to name a starter in that spot yet. With Tommy Edman (wrist) set to open the season on the injured list after having surgery on his right wrist in the offseason, Dylan Carlson, Victor Scott II and Michael Siani are competing for the job. Carlson is getting the start in center field in the team's Grapefruit League game on Saturday and is the most likely candidate to see most of the playing time in center until Edman returns. The 25-year-old year-old Carlson also had offseason surgery on his ankle in September, but he's good to go and is gaining steam in deep-mixed leagues with Edman injured. Scott, 23, has plenty of speed to spare and has really impressed in spring training. Siani, 24, would be the long shot, but he could make the Opening Day roster out of camp as a fourth or fifth outfielder.

Wed Feb 2116:23Dylan Carlson Expected To Run The Bases Wednesday
St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Dylan Carlson (ankle), who had season-ending left-ankle surgery last year, is expected to run the bases on Wednesday in addition to hitting in live batting practice and taking fly balls. Manager Oliver Marmol described Carlson's base-running as "checking the final box." The 25-year-old left-handed hitter probably won't play right away when the Grapefruit League scheduled kicks off this weekend, but barring a setback this spring, he should be ready to go for Opening Day at the end of March. A former top prospect, Carlson has hit just .230/.316/.364 in the last two seasons and now enters the 2024 campaign as the team's fourth outfielder. He should bounce back this year with better health, but playing time isn't going to be easy to come by.

Mon Feb 1918:44Dylan Carlson Limited With His Running
St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Dylan Carlson (ankle) is limited with his running in spring training. It doesn't come as a big surprise, even though he was cleared to do running in December, as Carlson had left-ankle surgery in September. The Cardinals play to ease the 25-year-old switch hitter in at camp, although he's expected to be ready by Opening Day. Carlson's fantasy stock is down considerably after a tough 2023 season that saw him hit only .219/.318/.333 with five home runs, eight doubles, a triple, 27 RBI, three stolen bases and 27 runs scored in 76 games played. The former top prospect figures to bounce back in 2024 with better healthy, but he'll have to earn regular playing time in St. Louis' outfield. Because he's currently projected as the club's fourth outfielder, Carlson is outside of RotoBaller's top-100 outfield ranks.

Thu Nov 9 202317:06Blue Jays Showing Interest In Dylan Carlson
St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Dylan Carlson is being eyed by the Toronto Blue Jays as the club looks to add a bat to their lineup ahead of the 2024 season. Carlson joins Jorge Soler and Eugenio Suarez as names being tied to the Blue Jays so far this offseason while the Cardinals could very well use their glut of outfielders as trade chips to improve their beleaguered pitching staff. It was a down season for the 25-year-old in 2023 as Carlson hit just .219 with five home runs and three stolen bases in an injury-plagued 76 games while he finished the season on the 60-day injured list due to an ankle injury. He showed early promise, however, hitting .266 with 18 homers and a pair of steals in 149 games as a 22-year-old rookie in the 2021 campaign and has a roughly league-average bat in his first 388 career contests, as per his career 99 wRC+.

Wed Sep 13 202316:50Dylan Carlson To Have Season-Ending Ankle Surgery
St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Dylan Carlson (ankle) will undergo season-ending left-ankle surgery, according to manager Oliver Marmol. It makes sense for Carlson to get the injury addressed after dealing with left-ankle issues since all the way back in the middle of May. Barring any setbacks in the offseason, Carlson should be ready for spring training next year. The 24-year-old had a rough 2023 campaign for the Cardinals, hitting just .219 (48-for-219) with five home runs, 27 RBI, three stolen bases and 27 runs scored in 76 games played in his fourth season in the major leagues with St. Louis. The former first-round selection will need to get healthy first before the 2024 season before he jumps back on the fantasy radar.

Tue Aug 22 202321:50Dylan Carlson Avoids Surgery
St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Dylan Carlson (ankle/oblique) has avoided season-ending surgery after receiving an injection in his left ankle, according to MLB.com. The former top prospect has been on the IL since earlier this month after straining his oblique but is also dealing with a lingering ankle issue. Carlson hopes to return this season and improve on his .219/.318/.333 slash line, but there's no timetable at the moment. The 24-year-old hasn't done much of anything offensively, as he's gone deep just five times and has recorded 27 runs, 27 RBI, and three steals across 76 games.

Sun Aug 20 202310:42Dylan Carlson Could Get Season-Ending Surgery
St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Dylan Carlson (ankle/oblique) is considering going for season-ending surgery on his injured left ankle. The 24-year-old originally landed on the 10-day injured list on Aug. 12 with a left oblique strain, but he is also still bothered by soreness stemming from a left ankle sprain he suffered back on May 24. In a lost season for the Cardinals and with an eye towards 2024, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Carlson opt for the surgery at this stage. The former first-round pick's 2023 return remains up in the air, and season-long fantasy managers should probably be looking to let go. The switch-hitting Carlson put forth a promising 2021, but he's barely been fantasy relevant this year in hitting .219 (48-for-219) with five home runs, 27 RBI, 27 runs scored, and three stolen bases.

Tue Aug 15 202323:01Dylan Carlson Still Dealing With Soreness
St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Dylan Carlson (ankle, oblique) is dealing with some recurring soreness in the left ankle he sprained in May as well as his oblique. It's unclear which injury is the more pressing concern, but both injuries will likely need to improve before he's cleared to return from the injured list. It's more disappointing news in what has been a disappointing season in 2023 for the 24-year-old. The switch-hitting outfielder is hitting just .219 (48-for-219) with five home runs, 27 RBI, three stolen bases and 27 runs scored. The Cardinals just placed him on the 10-day injured list last Saturday, but it doesn't look like he'll return until at least September at this rate. He's not a must-hold in deep-mixed leagues.

Sat Aug 12 202321:15Dylan Carlson Out A Couple Of Weeks
St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Dylan Carlson (oblique) is expected to be out for "at least a couple of weeks" with a strained left oblique. Carlson said he felt something while taking a swing during Wednesday's win over the Rays. The 24-year-old has been sidelined since and likely won't return until September. He has struggled this season, slashing .219/.318/.333 with five home runs, 27 RBI, 27 runs, and three stolen bases over 76 games in 2023. Alec Burleson should see an uptick in playing time while Carlson is sidelined. Burleson is slashing .244/.292/.413 over 261 plate appearances in 2023.

Tue Aug 1 202314:14Dylan Carlson Being Pursued By Yankees
St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Dylan Carlson is being targeted by the New York Yankees prior to Tuesday's 6 pm ET MLB trade deadline. The 24-year-old outfielder, along with fellow 24-year-old outfielder Alex Burleson, have reportedly been the names most discussed by the Cardinals at the moment. For his part, Carlson has three more years of club control attached to him following the 2023 season, which hasn't been his best at the plate. The 2016 first-round pick is hitting .230 with five homers, three stolen bases, and a .673 OPS across 232 trips to the plate this season but owns a superior .245 average with 34 homers, 11 steals, and a .721 OPS across 381 career games played.

Tue Aug 1 202314:06Alec Burleson, Dylan Carlson Being Heavily Discussed In Trade Talks
St. Louis Cardinals outfielders Alec Burleson and Dylan Carlson are the two names being most discussed by the club in trade talks following their deal of Paul DeJong to the Toronto Blue Jays. It was been widely known the Cardinals are full-blown sellers amidst a disappointing season while the club has also shipped left-hander Jordan Montgomery to the Texas Rangers and reliever Jordan Hicks to the Blue Jays. Both Burleson and Carlson have multiple years of club control attached to them, meaning a return for the young outfielders would need to be rather significant. Burleson, 24, is hitting .239 with six homers and a .685 OPS in 74 games while Carlson, also 24, is hitting .230 with five homers, three stolen bases, and a .673 OPS across 69 contests on the campaign.

Thu Jul 20 202318:37Dylan Carlson Missing From Thursday's Lineup
St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Dylan Carlson is not seen in Thursday's lineup against the Chicago Cubs. Tyler O'Neill (back) returns from a lengthy absence to park in left field and hit seventh. O'Neill's comeback spells bad news for the playing time of Carlson, who already wasn't occupying an everyday role in his stead. The former first-round pick has seen his name involved in some trade speculation, and a move from St. Louis might be beneficial for his fantasy prospects considering his current standing on the depth chart. Even so, Carlson is slashing a fairly nondescript .236/.344/.365 with five home runs, 21 RBI, and three stolen bases in 209 plate appearances this season.

Tue Jul 18 202300:51Yankees Could Pursue Dylan Carlson At Trade Deadline
The New York Yankees could be interested in trading for St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Dylan Carlson, a source told MLB.com's Mark Feinsand on Monday. The Yankees have dealt with injuries and poor performance in the outfield this season and Carlson will likely lose his starting role now that Tyler O'Neill is back from the injured list. The former top prospect has put up an uninspiring .243/.350/.376 slash line five home runs, 21 RBI, and three stolen bases in 203 plate appearances this season. While a change of scenery could always provide benefits, Calrson's overall fantasy value would still remain relatively low even if he were to be traded.

Sun Jun 18 202312:05Dylan Carlson Back In Lineup Against Mets
St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Dylan Carlson (elbow) has returned to the starting lineup on Sunday against the New York Mets and right-hander Carlos Carrasco. Carlson is starting in right field and is batting sixth in the order. He was scratched from Saturday's lineup due to a left-elbow bruise, but he's back in there a day later. The 24-year-old switch-hitter has been a disappointment so far in 2023, hitting .248 (30-for-121) with five doubles, a triple, three home runs, 16 RBI and 15 runs scored in 137 plate appearances over 40 games. He's been better so far in June, though, going 7-for-21 (.333) with a double, homer and four RBI in eight games. All three of his long balls this year have come against right-handers, but he's also hitting .235 (19-for-81) against them.

Fri Jun 9 202316:11Dylan Carlson Activated From Injured List
The St. Louis Cardinals activated outfielder Dylan Carlson (ankle) from the 10-day injured list on Friday and optioned outfielder/infielder Juan Yepez to Triple-A Memphis in a corresponding move. The Cardinals also activated right-hander Jake Woodford (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list and optioned him to Memphis. Carlson has been out since May 17 and was hitting a disappointing .230 (23-for-100) with four doubles, a triple, two home runs, 12 RBI and 12 runs scored in 32 games before going on the IL. St. Louis will play him every day in the outfield, though, with both Tyler O'Neill (back) and Lars Nootbaar (back) still on the shelf. The 24-year-old is starting in right field and is batting ninth on Friday against Cincinnati Reds right-hander Ben Lively.

Tue Jun 6 202309:25Dylan Carlson Ready For A Rehab Stint Tuesday
St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Dylan Carlson (ankle) is set to begin a rehab assignment on Tuesday with Triple-A Memphis, according to MLB.com. The 24-year-old has been sidelined since twisting his left ankle during a game on May 14. If everything goes as planned, there's a chance Carlson can return during the club's next homestand, which begins on Friday. The former top prospect hasn't turned into the star many were hoping for, as he's slashing .230/.278/.350 with two homers, 12 runs, 12 RBI, and one steal over 32 games this season and owns a career .628 OPS. Carlson should be limited to deeper and NL-only leagues due to his lackluster production.

Tue May 30 202309:43Dylan Carlson Nearing A Rehab Assignment
St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Dylan Carlson (ankle) began a running program and started hitting for the first time since hitting the injured list on Monday, according to MLB.com. The 24-year-old is nearing a rehab assignment and will likely need two or three games with Triple-A Memphis or Double-A Springfield. Carlson hasn't been in action since spraining his ankle on May 14 while leaving the batter's box on a hit but was slashing .230/.278/.350 with two homers, 12 runs, 12 RBI, and one steal across 32 games before that. The former top prospect has lost almost all of the hype he had prior to his debut in 2020, and he's mostly irrelevant in fantasy baseball.
