The Washington Nationals brought back one ace Saturday, less than 24 hours after placing another on the disabled list.Right-hander Stephen Strasburg was activated to start Saturday night's game at the San Diego Padres, while fellow right-hander Max Scherzer went on the DL Friday night due to left neck inflammation.Strasburg (10-3, 3.25 ERA) has been sidelined with a right elbow nerve impingement since pitching two scoreless innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks on July 23. He went on the disabled list four days later. The No. 1 overall draft pick by Washington in 2009, Strasburg pitched five innings in a rehab start at Class A Potomac on Monday, allowing one run and three hits over five innings.Strasburg has a lengthy list of injuries dating to his rookie campaign in 2010. He tore an elbow ligament that season and needed Tommy John surgery that kept him out for all but five games in 2011. He was on the disabled list four times during the 2015 and 2016 seasons, and was limited to 19 starts last season by a sore right elbow and an upper back strain.Scherzer (12-5) was scheduled to start Friday night's game but was a late scratch due to a recurring neck issue. The move is retroactive to Aug. 15.A two-time Cy Young Award winner, Scherzer was lifted from his start on Aug. 1 against the Miami Marlins after one inning because of a neck injury. But he won his two starts after that, going seven innings in each outing.Scherzer termed the neck problem as more of a nuisance than a serious issue and told reporters after Friday's 7-1 win that he plans to make his next scheduled start."It's just frustrating," said Scherzer. "I can sit here and laugh at it, because I know what the cause of this is and I know it's not anything serious. Look, last time I went through this, next time I was out there I was at 114 pitches. I fully intend for that to be the case again on Friday."
