Mon Jul 31 202309:42A.J. Minter Activated From Injured List
Atlanta Braves relief pitcher A.J. Minter (shoulder) has been activated from the 15-day injured list on Monday. The 29-year-old has been sidelined since early June due to inflammation in his left shoulder. He appears healthy now and ready to rejoin the bullpen ahead of Monday's game against the Los Angeles Angels. Before going down, Minter held a 4.91 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, with 50/10 K/BB ratio and 10 saves in 40.3 innings. The Braves will likely ease him back into his high-leverage role in the bullpen. In a corresponding move, right-hander AJ Smith-Shawver has been optioned to Triple-A.

Wed Jul 26 202308:47A.J. Minter Begins Rehab Assignment Tuesday
Atlanta Braves left-hander A.J. Minter (shoulder) began his rehab assignment on Tuesday with Triple-A Gwinnett, Justin Toscano of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. The 29-year-old has been on the shelf since earlier this month after experiencing shoulder tightness. It's a good sign for Minter, and he could return in early August if there are no setbacks. Across 40.1 innings this year, the seven-year veteran owns a 4.91 ERA (2.84 FIP) but with a 1.09 WHIP, 31.6% strikeout rate, 10 saves, and 11 holds. Despite his bloated ERA, he'll remain a solid option in hold formats once he's back.

Sun Jul 23 202310:58A.J. Minter Hurls Bullpen Session On Saturday
Atlanta Braves relief pitcher A.J. Minter (shoulder) tossed a bullpen session on Saturday. The 29-year-old was sent to the 15-day injured list on July 15 and it looks like he could start a rehab assignment soon. Minter initially experienced shoulder tightness versus the Tampa Bay Rays on July 8. The southpaw couldn't shake the discomfort during the All-Star break, ultimately needing a stint on the IL. Minter could feasibly return when first eligible for activation, which comes right near the end of July. The veteran carries a 4.91 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and 50:10 K:BB over 40 1/3 innings this season.

Sun Jul 9 202309:23A.J. Minter Experiencing Pectoral Tightness
Atlanta Braves relief A.J. Minter (pectoral) was only able to throw nine eighth-inning pitches in Saturday's duel against the Tampa Bay Rays before exiting with left pectoral tightness. The 29-year-old's departure may have been a precautionary measure; Minter doesn't believe it's anything serious. It was perhaps the appropriate call against the suddenly scuffling Rays, who have struggled mightily offensively throughout their current home stand. Atlanta would go on to win the game 6-1. Minter should be considered day-to-day, and it would be somewhat surprising to see him in action during Sunday's matchup with the All-Star break around the corner. The veteran southpaw totes a 4.91 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and 50:10 K:BB over 40 1/3 innings this year.

Thu Jun 8 202309:05A.J. Minter Records His Eighth Save On Wednesday
Atlanta Braves left-hander A.J. Minter registered his eighth save of the season after closing out Wednesday's 7-5 win over the New York Mets. He went one inning, allowing no baserunners while striking out one. Minter is now sporting a 6.04 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and 30.4% strikeout rate with a pair of holds over 28.1 innings. The 29-year-old began the year as the closer, but after Raisel Iglesias returned from the injured list, he moved to a set-up role. Despite his numbers, fantasy managers should expect Minter to back up Iglesias for save opportunities while picking up a fair share of holds.

Fri May 5 202301:06A.J. Minter Collects Seventh Save
Atlanta Braves relief pitcher A.J. Minter picked up his seventh save of the season on Thursday, closing out the Miami Marlins in a 6-3 win. The lefty worked around a two-out single and struck out two in his inning of work. Minter has been pretty awful in the closer role early in the season, posting a disastrous 7.47 ERA and 1.28 WHIP over 15 IP. Fortunately for the Braves, Raisel Iglesias is expected back this weekend, and he should quickly retake the closer job. Minter is droppable as soon as Iglesias starts closing out games.

Tue May 2 202308:03A.J. Minter Closes Out Monday's Game
Atlanta Braves left-hander A.J. Minter earned his sixth save of the season Monday, closing out the 9-8 victory in Game 1 of the doubleheader. He pitched one inning, allowing one run (a solo shot) and also struck out a batter. Despite his six saves, Minter has had a miserable campaign thus far, posting an 8.56 ERA with a 1.39 WHIP, 27.6% strikeout rate, and a pair of blown saves. With Raisel Iglesias (shoulder) set to join the Braves bullpen this week, the 29-year-old will be replaced as the closer anyways, so fantasy managers can let him go in most formats.

Fri Apr 28 202300:09A.J. Minter Implodes In Ninth
Atlanta Braves left-handed pitcher A.J. Minter had another rough outing on Thursday against the Miami Marlins, allowing five runs on five hits in just two-thirds of an inning. He also took the loss, as the Marlins came back from a 4-0 deficit to win 5-4. He has now taken the loss in three of his last four appearances, during which he has allowed 10 runs (all earned) over 3 2/3 frames. It has not been a good run for Minter, who sees his ERA balloon to 8.53 after the miserable appearance. The Braves should get closer Raisel Iglesias back soon, so Minter can be safely dropped in most leagues.

Wed Apr 5 202308:28A.J. Minter Notches First Save On Tuesday
Atlanta Braves left-hander A.J. Minter recorded his first save of the season on Tuesday after pitching the ninth inning of the 4-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. He allowed no hits or walks and struck out one in a clean inning of work. Minter's thrown three innings thus far and has yet to give up a run while striking out two and giving up just one hit. The 29-year-old's been solid for the Braves over the past three seasons, so with Raisel Iglesias on the shelf for the time being it should be Minter who continues to get the save chances. He should be rostered right now in all formats until Iglesias makes his return.

Thu Mar 23 202315:24A.J. Minter Likely To Open Year As Braves Closer
With Atlanta Braves closer Raisel Iglesias (shoulder) set to open the 2023 season on the injured list, manager Brian Snitker said reliever A.J. Minter is the obvious choice to fill in for Iglesias. "The good thing is: (A.J.) Minter has closed. He obviously would be the obvious guy. Yeah, I don't know. It may be a matchup scenario-type thing. You just got to audible a little bit with the guys that you have and see," Snitker said. The left-hander has 25 career saves, including five in 2022. Joe Jimenez, who was acquired from the Detroit Tigers last year, has 20 career saves and is another option to close out games with Iglesias sidelined. Fantasy managers speculating on saves late in drafts should add Minter to their list.

Tue Jul 12 202223:32A.J. Minter Shuts Down Mets For Fourth Save
Atlanta Braves relief pitcher A.J. Minter appears to have established himself as the primary closer with Kenley Jansen (heart) on the injured list. Minter received his third consecutive save opportunity Tuesday, shutting down the New York Mets in order with one strikeout to earn his fourth save of the season. Minter now has a sparkling 1.66 ERA and 0.87 WHIP with 50 strikeouts in 38 innings, and he's well worth an add in all fantasy formats for as long as Jansen is out of commission.

Tue Jun 28 202218:30A.J. Minter, William Smith To Handle Closing Duties
Atlanta Braves manager Brian Snitker stated on Tuesday that relievers A.J. Minter and William Smith will handle closing duties while the team's primary closer, Kenley Jansen (heart), is out. Jansen was placed on the 15-day injured list on Tuesday due to an irregular heartbeat, so he will miss at least the next two weeks. The Braves are fourth in the majors in saves this year with 24, so it's safe to expect the team to have several save chances while Jansen is sidelined. Minter has been more effective than Smith overall this year, pitching to a 1.69 ERA and a 0.81 WHIP -- Smith has a 3.41 ERA and 1.31 WHIP -- but Smith has received five save opportunities while Minter has only earned two. Also, keep in mind that Smith saved 37 games for the team last year. If you need to gamble on just one of the relievers, Smith seems like the favorite for ninth-inning work. However, based on Snitker's report Tuesday, it sounds as if Minter will get his chances as well.

Wed Aug 11 202108:34A.J. Minter Recalled From Triple-A
The Atlanta Braves recalled relief pitcher A.J. Minter from Triple-A on Tuesday. Fellow reliever Shane Greene was designated for assignment in a corresponding move. Minter has struggled in the majors this year. Over 42 appearances, he has posted a 4.86 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP while averaging 10 K/9. However, he was pitching well at Triple-A prior to his call-up. He pitched in seven games at Triple-A and recorded six saves while giving up no hits, three walks and no runs over 7.1 innings pitched. He struck out 10 batters over his seven appearances. Minter will be one of the team's setup men in front of closer Will Smith and could work his way into high leverage work if he is effective.

Wed Jun 23 202101:49Scherzer passes checks, Nationals stare down Phillies 3-2
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Max Scherzer threw his glove and hat to the grass, then stared down Phillies manager Joe Girardi after getting checked for a third time by umpires for sticky stuff as the Washington Nationals beat Philadelphia 3-2 Tuesday night. Scherzer (6-4) looked sharp in his return to the rotation after missing a start due to a groin injury, striking out eight in five innings. Girardi apparently didn’t like what he saw. In the fourth, Scherzer threw high and inside to Alec Bohm, sending him sprawling to the ground before striking him out. Prior to the next batter, Girardi asked the umpires to check Scherzer. Scherzer already had been checked by second-base umpire Alfonso Marquez after the first and third inning. So, when he was approached for a third time, this time at Girardi’s request, Scherzer threw his glove and hat to the ground, unbuckled his belt and appeared ready to take his pants off. Yan Gomes had a pair of RBI singles for the Nationals, who have won three straight and... [More]
