Sun Mar 2409:07Austin Hays Day-To-Day After Being Hit By Pitch
Baltimore Orioles outfielder Austin Hays was hit by a pitch in Saturday's 3-2 Grapefruit League win over the Blue Jays. Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said that Hays is fine and is considered day-to-day. If Hays is able to go on Sunday, Hyde stated that he'd try to get him in the lineup, otherwise Hays would have to take some live batting practice once the team gets back in Baltimore before the start of the regular season. Hays was a big part of the O's success in 2023, earning an All-Star appearance after slashing .314/.355/.498 and wRC+ of 136 in the first half last season. The 28-year-old came back down to earth in the second half though with a wRC+ of 84. He's hitting just .154 (4-for-26) in the spring, so hopefully the former third-round draft pick can get off to another hot start in the regular season as the Orioles have promising prospects waiting in the wings in the event he doesn't.

Tue Feb 612:55Austin Hays Wins Arbitration Case With Orioles
Baltimore Orioles outfielder Austin Hays won his arbitration hearing against the team and is set to make $6.3 million in 2024. After posting a 112 wRC+ in 2023 with a .275 batting average, Hays' camp felt he should get more than the $5.85 million the team filed for. The 28-year-old played 144 games last year, integral to the team's AL East title. Alongside Cedric Mullins and Anthony Santander, Hays helps the Orioles field a productive outfield. However, prospects Heston Kjerstad and Colton Cowser loom, potentially impacting his playing time later. Hays won't be an unrestricted free agent until 2026, and it will be intriguing to see how the team manages the outfield until then.

Baltimore Orioles outfielder Austin Hays is out of the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Cleveland Guardians. This appears to be a routine rest day for the 28-year-old. Mon Sep 4 202318:29Austin Hays Back In Leadoff Spot Monday
Baltimore Orioles outfielder Austin Hays is back in the leadoff spot Monday night as he takes on the Los Angeles Angels and left-hander Kenny Rosenberg. Hays didn't start Sunday's series finale against the Arizona Diamondbacks but struck out in his lone trip to the plate in the ninth inning. It's been a solid season for the 28-year-old, as Hays is hitting .282 with 13 home runs, four stolen bases, and a .783 OPS across 120 appearances on the campaign. Only twice over his last 12 starts has Hays failed to record at least one hit, while he has collected five knocks over his last three starts. He will man left field Monday night in Los Angeles.

Fri Aug 11 202319:01Austin Hays Absent On Friday
Baltimore Orioles outfielder Austin Hays is out of the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Seattle Mariners. The 28-year-old has been dealing with general soreness lately, but this absence doesn't appear to be injury related. This seems to be a routine rest day after Hays went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts during Thursday's contest. The O's will start Colton Cowser, Cedric Mullins and Ryan O'Hearn in outfield for Friday's game.

Tue Aug 8 202317:07Austin Hays Back In O's Lineup
Baltimore Orioles outfielder Austin Hays is back in the team's starting lineup on Tuesday, starting in left field and batting cleanup against the visiting Houston Astros and left-hander Framber Valdez. Hays has missed the last two games due to general soreness, but he'll return for fantasy managers on Tuesday after the team's scheduled off day on Monday. The 28-year-old is plenty useful in fantasy hitting in the middle of a potent lineup, although his counting stats have still left a lot to be desired in 2023. He's also gone 6-for-30 (.200) with no homers, a double, two RBI, six strikeouts and five runs scored in his last eight starts since July 28. Hays has a nice .287 average (105-for-366), but it's come with just nine homers, 42 RBI and 52 runs scored.

Baltimore Orioles outfielder Austin Hays is out of the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the New York Mets. After starting 17 straight games, Hays will receive a much-needed day off on Saturday. The 28-year-old is slashing a sluggish 185/.239/.231 during that span. Hopefully, Hays will return back to form after getting a day off. In the meantime, Colton Cowser will cover left field and bat seventh versus right-hander Tylor Megill on Saturday.

Sat Jul 8 202312:02Austin Hays Returns To Lineup Saturday
Baltimore Orioles outfielder Austin Hays (hip) is back in the starting lineup to face the Minnesota Twins and right-hander Sonny Gray on Saturday. Hays is starting in left field and hitting fifth in the batting order. It will be his first game action after sitting out the last five games due to a bruised left hip, but he'll close out the first half of the season on the field for Baltimore. The 28-year-old will be in uniform at next week's All-Star game in Seattle after having a great first half, slashing .312/.352/.491 with an .843 OPS, eight home runs, 22 doubles, two triples, 34 RBI and 42 runs in 76 games. His counting stats leave something to be desired, but fantasy managers can't complain about his high average and OPS and solid on-base percentage. Hays hit .326 (31-for-95) with two homers, nine doubles, 11 RBI, a steal and 15 runs scored in 24 games in June.

Fri Jul 7 202318:20Austin Hays To Sit Out Again
Baltimore Orioles outfielder Austin Hays (hip) remains out of the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Minnesota Twins. The 28-year-old has been out since Sunday due to a left hip contusion. The fact Hays hasn't been placed on the injured list means the team is hopeful he will play this weekend. Otherwise, Hays will get a week off with the All-Star break next week to rest. Colton Cowser will cover left field and bat sixth versus right-hander Bailey Ober on Friday.

Thu Jul 6 202316:15Austin Hays Still Not Playing
Baltimore Orioles outfielder Austin Hays (hip) remains out of action on Thursday against the New York Yankees in the Bronx. It will be the fourth straight game that Hays has missed due to a bruised left hip, but manager Brandon Hyde said that Hays could be back in the lineup any day now. With only three games remaining before next week's All-Star break, though, the O's might just decide to give the 28-year-old some extra rest heading into the second half of the season. Rookie Colton Cowser is making his second big-league start in left field on Thursday and is hitting seventh against Yankees right-hander Luis Severino. Hays only has eight home runs and two stolen bases, but he's been valuable in fantasy for his batting average of .312 (87-for-279) in 76 games.

Tue Jul 4 202312:50Austin Hays Still Out Tuesday
Baltimore Orioles outfielder Austin Hays (hip) remains out of the starting lineup on Tuesday for a contest against the New York Yankees on the Fourth of July. Hays is dealing with a bruised left hip and will miss his second straight game. The 27-year-old plans on hitting in the cages on Tuesday, though, so there's a good chance he'll return to the lineup on Wednesday. Aaron Hicks will get the start in left field on Tuesday and will bat sixth against Yankees right-hander Clarke Schmidt. Hays has been very productive at the plate for Baltimore in 2023, hitting an impressive .312 (87-for-279), but his counting stats have left something to be desired for fantasy managers. He's produced eight home runs, 34 RBI, two stolen bases and 42 runs scored in 301 plate appearances.

Mon Jul 3 202316:29Austin Hays Absent On Monday
Baltimore Orioles outfielder Austin Hays (wrist) is absent from Monday's starting lineup versus the New York Yankees. This isn't surprising considering Hays suffered a left hip contusion from Sunday's game. He suffered the injury when he collided with Reds infielder Donovan Solano during their last contest. It's not shocking to see the O's being extremely cautious with their All-Star outfielder. He could see a few days off to rest until he's 100 percent healthy. Fantasy managers will have to check back for another update on his status.

Sun Jul 2 202313:30Austin Hays Exits Early On Sunday With Hip Contusion
Baltimore Orioles outfielder Austin Hays (hip) left Sunday's game early after running into Twins first baseman Donovan Solano in the second inning. Hays did stay in the game after the collision but was removed once the inning was over. The Orioles have called the injury a left hip contusion and should provide an update on Hays' status following the conclusion of Sunday's contest. Aaron Hicks has taken his place in the lineup and is in left field.

Tue Jun 27 202300:55Austin Hays Stays Hot, Plates Three Monday
Baltimore Orioles outfielder Austin Hays continued his stellar season in Monday's 10-3 win over the Reds. Hays went 2-for-5 with a single, a double, three RBI, and a strikeout. The 27-year-old currently leads the American League in batting average and is slashing .319/.357/.510 with eight home runs, 34 RBI, and two stolen bases. The power has manifested itself more in doubles (he has 22 on the season) rather than home runs, which gives him more appeal in points leagues. That being said, Hays has been a major fantasy contributor in all leagues while hitting in the middle of one of baseball's stronger lineups.

Fri May 19 202314:07Austin Hays Picks Up Three Hits In Loss To Angels
Baltimore Orioles outfielder Austin Hays went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored from the leadoff spot in Thursday's 6-5 loss to the visiting Los Angeles Angels. The 27-year-old continues to hit well so far this year. He's now hitting .312 (44-for-141) with 10 doubles, a triple, five home runs, 14 RBI, one stolen base and 23 runs scored in 152 plate appearances and 39 games played. Hays was in the leadoff spot on Thursday with Cedric Mullins taking a day off against a left-handed starter. In 13 games so far in May, Hays has gone 15-for-48 (.313) with three doubles, a homer, three RBI and six runs scored in 50 trips to the plate. He remains very valuable in all fantasy formats as an everyday outfielder for the O's.

Tue May 16 202314:47Austin Hays Moves Into Cleanup Spot For First Time In 2023 Tuesday
Baltimore Orioles outfielder Austin Hays will hit out of the cleanup spot for the first time this season Tuesday night when he takes on the Los Angeles Angels and right-hander Chase Silseth. Hays tends to hit leadoff against left-handed starters but has hit much lower in the lineup against right-handers as he has made his last six starts out of the six-hole for the surging Orioles. It's been a productive season for the 27-year-old as Hays is hitting .292 with four homers, one stolen base, and an .805 OPS across 140 trips to the plate. Additionally, he ranks in the 74th percentile or better in hard-hit rate, average exit velocity, barrel rate, and xwOBA on the season. In a turn of events, he's done his best work against same-handed pitching as he's produced an .849 OPS and .367 wOBA against righties this season.

Fri May 5 202316:09Jorge Mateo Hitting Leadoff, Austin Hays Still Out Friday
Baltimore Orioles shortstop Jorge Mateo is batting leadoff on Friday against left-hander Max Fried and the Atlanta Braves, while outfielder Austin Hays (finger) misses another contest. Mateo will be hitting in the top spot in Baltimore's order for the first time this year, but he's certainly earned it by hitting .321 (27-for-84) with five doubles, six home runs, 19 RBI, 11 stolen bases and 23 runs scored in 26 games played so far. It's a tough matchup against Fried, but Mateo will carry considerably more DFS upside out of the leadoff spot. Hays is typically the O's leadoff hitter, but he hasn't played since Tuesday with a bruised right middle finger. He'll be available off the bench, so consider him day-to-day. Ryan McKenna is starting in left field and hitting eighth in the lineup.

The 27-year-old missed a few games this week with a bruised right hand, but he'll be back in the lineup on Saturday for the O's and fantasy managers. Hays has been a big part of Baltimore's offense in the early going, as he's hitting a strong .301 (25-for-83) with six doubles, a triple, four home runs, nine RBI, a stolen base and 16 runs scored in 88 plate appearances and 23 games so far. Get him back into your lineups for Saturday's action.

Wed Apr 26 202312:05Austin Hays Could Miss A Few Days
Baltimore Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said that outfielder Austin Hays' bruised right hand is "pretty sore" but feels better. Hays had to be removed early from the game on Tuesday against the Boston Red Sox after being hit by a pitch on his hand during a bunt attempt, but the hope is that he'll only miss a few days. Hays and shortstop Jorge Mateo (rest) are both out of the lineup on Wednesday against Red Sox right-hander Tanner Houck. X-rays on Hays turned up negative, so the 27-year-old should be able to avoid a trip to the injured list. Hays is off to a great start this year, hitting .301 (25-for-83) with six doubles, a triple, four home runs, nine RBI and a stolen base in 23 games played, so his fantasy managers will be hoping for a quick return as well.

Tue Apr 25 202321:40Austin Hays Leaves Tuesday's Game With Injury
Baltimore Orioles outfielder Austin Hays was removed from Tuesday's game against the Boston Red Sox with a right-hand contusion after being hit by a pitch on a bunt attempt. According to Dan Connolly, he'll undergo more testing after the initial X-rays came back negative. Hays has been phenomenal to begin his sixth season in the big leagues, slashing .301/.341/.542 with four homers, 16 runs, nine RBI, and one stolen base over 23 games. Fantasy managers should stay tuned for more news, but the 27-year-old will likely miss at least a couple of games.
