While Rambis remains in the mix to become the Lakers next head coach, he was an assistant during both of Phil Jackson's stints in Los Angeles and is a well-versed disciple of the triangle offense.

Tue Jun 10 201412:03Reggie Miller calls Derek Fisher a "glue guy"
Reggie Miller thinks Derek Fisher can be a great coach for the New York Knicks.
Speaking just hours after Fisher reportedly accepted the Knicks' offer to become their next head coach, Miller spoke highly of Fisher, "Derek can be a great coach because he's always been a 'glue guy'. He's had that influence in every locker room he's ever been in. He's seen everything there is to see in basketball and he's been a champion. And he's been under Phil Jackson's tutelage." Fisher will have a tough road ahead of him (especially if Carmelo Anthony decides to leave town), but he has no shortage of supporters around the NBA who think he's more than capable of the task.

GM Mitch Kupchack will likely have a call with Derek Fisher soon to gauge his interest, and state of mind before bring him in for an official interview for the Lakers head coaching gig.
"I have to say we're leaning toward the type of the coach we would want (and) I would say there would be experience involved, certainly on some level, but not necessarily," Kupchak said. "There's no urgency right now, so it will be a more deliberate process." While Fisher doesn't have experience as head coach, he has taken on the leadership role throughout his career, and was the president of the NBPA during the 2011 lockout season. Fisher has yet to officially state whether he'd like to become a head coach.

Derek Fisher said on Sunday that it is his "calling" to be in a leadership position, but he stopped short of confirming that he wants to coach the Knicks or Lakers.
"Not playing anymore - if that's what it's to be - coaching or being in the front office or being in a role where I can positively impact others and work together for a common goal is exciting to me," Fisher said. He added that the prospect of coaching under Phil Jackson in New York adds "huge layers" to his decision, but for the moment he has yet to announce his retirement as a player.

Phil Jackson said he has not spoken to Derek Fisher about coaching the Knicks.

Mon May 19 201414:27Does Derek Fisher want to become a coach?
Lots of rumors have emerged about Derek Fisher possibly becoming New York's next head coach following the 2013-14 season, but it's not clear whether Fisher would even want the job.
"I literally have not given any thought," Fisher told USA TODAY Sports when asked specifically whether he wants to be a coach. "[But] I think you have to want to do anything you decide to do that requires the type of time and effort that coaching requires. You go through your process at the appropriate time, and then you decide from there." Currently the only thing that Fisher is focused on is getting a win in Game 1 vs. the Spurs, and he has not had any communication with Phil Jackson since Phil's official press conference when he accepted the job. In other words, nothing is imminent.

Mon May 19 201409:11NYK expected to take time on coaching search
The Knicks are not expected to rush their coaching search and could "seriously discuss" the position with Derek Fisher.
Fisher said last week that the Knicks have yet to contact him and chances are they won't be able to until OKC's playoff run is over. The Knicks don't really have much of a wish list now that Steve Kerr is with the Warriors, but it would appear coach Phil Jackson wants to get a coach who knows the triangle a little bit.

The Knicks are about as desperate as it gets for a head coach after Steve Kerr spurned them and the rumors of the team possibly adding Fisher will have to continue for at least two more weeks with the Thunder in the Western Conference Finals.

Thu May 15 201421:16Brooks likes Fisher as a possible head coach
Coach Scott Brooks said Derek Fisher would be a great NBA head coach before Thursday's Game 6.
Brooks likes Fisher on the court probably more than he should, so this isn't surprising at all. There are some murmurs of the Knicks looking into Fisher as their next head coach and pairing him with some other reputable assistants. He has 18 years of NBA experience and his time with the NBPA president also shows his leadership.
